  1. If you let me have the size of the motors I will give you a rough idea. The biggest motor will probably be the one in the pic. If its say 10kw you can get away with a 40 kva just depends on what else is likely to start and run at the same time. On paper the start up current is 6 times running but in practice you can get away with 3 times. It can get complicated and sometimes its worth doing a rough calculation and hiring a generator in for a week while you set it up. I would think you could get away with a 60 kva but need some details first.
  2. I have one for bp and one with shell. That way I can fill up easily on the motorway and save nearly 15p a litre. Currently paying £1.09 ppl + vat . If one starts jacking the price I give them a little rest. Dont buy petrol on these cards costs a bomb and only use the bunkering stations other wise it will be £1.60 a litre. All stations on the motorway are bunkers.
  3. It has 4 round blades in the chipper and 22 in the shredder. We have not used it enough to make a judgement. Just feels wrong knowing the price of the blades to put sweepings through. I would imagine turning the blades occassionally they would last years even with heavy use.
  4. I think the salesman meant you need to touch the chain up 3 times a day with a file. I prefer chain if you hit a nail and write it off its alot cheaper than a circular blade. We have a 500mm cross cut, new blade lasted 10mins £60 ouch
  5. What are they slated for. The only thing I can think of is they may not put up with over loading like an ifor but were not supposed to do that. A good test is if it tows nice behind a double cab.
  6. I have an old ifor tt105 tipper best trailer I have ever towed. I bought a brand new BV105 ifor box trailer last year worst trailer I have ever towed. The wheels were not even welded to point in the same direction. The dealer immediately refunded in full. I have just replaced our 16ft flatbed with a new Brian james not as heavily made as the ifor but lower and easier to live with, Better engineered and finished better to tow. Ifor quality down the pan customer service non existent.
  7. Try chestnut on here think she is near southampton. Do you think chestnut would be better than used telegraph poles ? I am thinking of putting up a shed but only 9ft high
  8. I am normally falling apart with hay fever but so far nothing. I think people suffering now must be allergic to something like rape seed. Your hay fever normally peaks around your birthday. Not many people born during the winter get hayfever because their immune system built up resistance before it starts. I tried one of the up the nose sprays last year but tends to set me off and the snot it creates is awful. My preventions are clariytin when its really bad, regular showers to get it out the hair, windows closed in the house especially 4pm , pollen filter and aircon in the car.
  9. I have a green mech shredder and dont like putting sweepings through it tend to save them for the fire.
  10. When I sell off our old vans people turn up with their car insurance expecting to test drive the vehicle. 1. a car policy does not cover a commercial vehicle ( van ) 2. Even if it did your not driving my vehicle 3rd party fire and theft
  11. You cant beat a long term test drive. Too much to take in on a quick spin round the block. Pick ups are commercial vehicles and once the springs have bed in ( about 6000 miles ) you can end up with a choppy noisey ride. Probably why people spend 40k on a disco van and wait 12 months for delivery. The are for and against in everything if you not had a pickup in a business may be worth hiring one for a week. I had a hilux mk4 on hire for 3 months while I waited for the fantastic navara d22 to arrive, on paper even the new mk5 was poor against the nissan. But the Nissan was total rubbish and the Hilux with 200k on the clock was great.
  12. If 6th is top left where have they put first ?. Bottom right is bad news for reverse because it could be possible at top speed.
  13. I am amazed running a business with scoring 40 they took you off the road. I have come across people 2nd offence blowing 80 odd. They grizzle about loosing their business and get away with no ban and a big fine. Drink driving is bad news but you may of only had a pint but at least you never hurt anyone.
  14. If you own more than 5 vehicles Ford will give 4k off if you buy 2 you get another 4k off. Basically if you run a small fleet big discounts
  15. Now that could be worth the wait.
  16. Just my opinion Keen on hilux isuzu dmax would not bother again with the following navara , anything Ford, anything Mitsubish, Landrover
  17. I never actually drove the new dmax but on paper it looks an ideal truck. The ones made 2103 onwards tow 3500kg as long as you dont have the boot full. They have 3 years isuzu warranty then its out sourced on major components. I read alot of complaints on line of the latest ones dropping from 40mpg to 20 and the engines filling with fuel and blowing up. A faulty dpf regeneration problem but they may have it sorted now. I prefer the look of the hilux and the quality of the interior. The top of the range hilux was nice to drive but extreme engine noise when pushed. When ever I see a demo with £1500 of the new price I just think go new and get a brand fire new one. Demo normally means courtesy car/abused hire car driven by people who have the hump theirs is broken again.
  18. I am in the same position as you. Bought a d4 before christmas with 60k on the clock 3 years old just out of warranty. Paid 19k+ vat since then its consumed over 3k in repairs/tyres etc in 10,000 miles. If you dont tow much I would go for bottom of the range double cab hilux for £16k + vat. It has most of the features of the top of the range £28k one but simpler and more reliable and probably better on fuel. Same, body, axles, springs. 2.5 litre engine which is reviewed as nearly as good as the 3.0. Manual box which will be more reliable. Black plastic bumpers and mirrors cheaper when you beat them off. Looks like you are going to work rather than cutting hair. If you have 10k cash to spend finance the rest it will be cheaper in the long run and you know the vehicle has been treated well from day one. If you need to finance the lot go for a £6000 hilux mk5
  19. with 10k to spend I would be really tempted to push it that little bit further and get something new with warranty. Modern diesels are an absolute nightmare and it does not take long to eat through 4k when an engine goes tits.
  20. definately a rotating pin jet lance is bad news. Some machines you can turn down. I did wonder if you could use water at 60 deg with low pressure as this kills grass so it may kill off the green stuff.
  21. If you renew in time its only £100 for the next 3 years. I probably dont need one but its just easier to have one. I remove waste oil and filters I have created in the course of my work = dont need one. I may move logs about = dont need one. I take scrap metal up the scrap yard = probably need one. If I have something loaded I did not think about = covered.
  22. Be careful how much pressure you use to blow back up the fuel line. Often on the end of the fuel line in the tank is a brass filter which also holds the end of the pipe in the fuel tank down. If you blow it of the end you will find in the future when throwing the machine around on slopes you will start drawing air up the line.
  23. Looks interesting but only if you have a better payload and gross under a car licence ie 7.5 tonne or 8.5 tonne what ever it is now. Once you are into operators license you may as well have a proper lorry unless I am missing something ie fuel savings.
  24. I did not realise you could do that. I had an lt 35 and it towed 2 tonnes better than the disco at the time. More stable and sure footed no wandering or tram linning.
  25. I also think the wetter the log the more you need to open the vents until eventually most of the heat goes up the chimney. My logs for the house sit in a clear poly tunnel for 2 years on average. The idea that dry logs burn too quick is rubbish in a woodburner you can clamp it down till they burn just right with max heat.
