  1. Standbys get changed due to liquidation. Suddenly undersize for load, application so critical cant trust a 15 year old set. A canopied modernish 100kva should weigh under 2000kg so could put on plant trailer behind 4x4. That 200kva rolls in the auction pic will probably weigh 4-5 tonnes. I collected a 70kva open Dorman once and it was too heavy to tow. Hire sets are a lucky dip and you never know how many hours they have done the clocks often pack up after a few thousand hours so could be on its 5 th clock.
  2. I normally work 250 hrs is 6000 miles if that makes sense. You dont see many standby sets with 2000 hrs on the clock they normally run 30 mins a year may be a couple of hrs in bad weather. After 15 years they still look like new save a bit of corrosion on the canopy. Once a set has run 2000 hrs its difficult to work out what its really done. Hr clocks are £10
  3. Pine is one of the heaviest wood their is when its green. Depends on size of bag but I would say 40 1 metre cube bags more than that is a bonus.
  4. Imo the old Dormans were awful and rolls not much better. The parts are now getting difficult and expensive. A 40 year old 125kva c6 rolls will scoff £15 an hour in diesel. A mid nineties perkins phaser £6 We find 40yr old standby sets are a night mare we give £500 and allow £1000 for hiab and transport. Send them to auction they make £1500 - £3000 If you service an old set and put it to work within a year the avr, windings, crg alt, water pump, piston liners and radiator will have failed. You want a 10-15 year old silent set with 200 hrs on the clock. Up to 15,000 hrs is ok if its been looked after. We often see sets with a new main Alternator after 7000 hrs. we used to get 40,000 hrs out of some of our 3152 and 6354 but skip a few oil changes and leave it running on light load and they were stuffed at 15,000 hrs
  5. This is the sort of machine we will end up with looks like a 526. They do a machine about half the size which still picks up 2.7 tonnes. 80% of the time the avant size machine would be perfect for us but the other 20% we need to pick up 2000kg + so I either compromise and get a bigger machine or buy two machines. I like the jcb 527- 50
  6. I had cider with my dinner so it all makes perfect sense to me. Enjoying the rest of the day looking forward to the heatwave
  7. Good quality gear in there jon ours is always full off waitrose shoppers from next door. Kids cereals crisps etc all good. 1/2 tonne of mature cheddar £4 good steaks ( get the 21 day matured ) and they do tools for getting your keys out the drain
  8. No there is 4 people on here that can translate the above says we got some apples from gutter outside aldi and jims now giving me a piggy back up Snowdon
  9. A 30 hp direct on line would need a 97 kva to start it. Your motors are soft start but you also need to start the 10 hp and may want a dust extractor in the future so you are probably back up to 100 kva. I would look for a mid 90's silent perkins powered fg wilson. The old 70's stuff scoffs the diesel. the 90,s stuff good on fuel without getting too electronic.
  10. If you let me have the size of the motors I will give you a rough idea. The biggest motor will probably be the one in the pic. If its say 10kw you can get away with a 40 kva just depends on what else is likely to start and run at the same time. On paper the start up current is 6 times running but in practice you can get away with 3 times. It can get complicated and sometimes its worth doing a rough calculation and hiring a generator in for a week while you set it up. I would think you could get away with a 60 kva but need some details first.
  11. I have one for bp and one with shell. That way I can fill up easily on the motorway and save nearly 15p a litre. Currently paying £1.09 ppl + vat . If one starts jacking the price I give them a little rest. Dont buy petrol on these cards costs a bomb and only use the bunkering stations other wise it will be £1.60 a litre. All stations on the motorway are bunkers.
  12. It has 4 round blades in the chipper and 22 in the shredder. We have not used it enough to make a judgement. Just feels wrong knowing the price of the blades to put sweepings through. I would imagine turning the blades occassionally they would last years even with heavy use.
  13. I think the salesman meant you need to touch the chain up 3 times a day with a file. I prefer chain if you hit a nail and write it off its alot cheaper than a circular blade. We have a 500mm cross cut, new blade lasted 10mins £60 ouch
  14. What are they slated for. The only thing I can think of is they may not put up with over loading like an ifor but were not supposed to do that. A good test is if it tows nice behind a double cab.
  15. I have an old ifor tt105 tipper best trailer I have ever towed. I bought a brand new BV105 ifor box trailer last year worst trailer I have ever towed. The wheels were not even welded to point in the same direction. The dealer immediately refunded in full. I have just replaced our 16ft flatbed with a new Brian james not as heavily made as the ifor but lower and easier to live with, Better engineered and finished better to tow. Ifor quality down the pan customer service non existent.
  16. Try chestnut on here think she is near southampton. Do you think chestnut would be better than used telegraph poles ? I am thinking of putting up a shed but only 9ft high
  17. I am normally falling apart with hay fever but so far nothing. I think people suffering now must be allergic to something like rape seed. Your hay fever normally peaks around your birthday. Not many people born during the winter get hayfever because their immune system built up resistance before it starts. I tried one of the up the nose sprays last year but tends to set me off and the snot it creates is awful. My preventions are clariytin when its really bad, regular showers to get it out the hair, windows closed in the house especially 4pm , pollen filter and aircon in the car.
  18. I have a green mech shredder and dont like putting sweepings through it tend to save them for the fire.
  19. When I sell off our old vans people turn up with their car insurance expecting to test drive the vehicle. 1. a car policy does not cover a commercial vehicle ( van ) 2. Even if it did your not driving my vehicle 3rd party fire and theft
  20. You cant beat a long term test drive. Too much to take in on a quick spin round the block. Pick ups are commercial vehicles and once the springs have bed in ( about 6000 miles ) you can end up with a choppy noisey ride. Probably why people spend 40k on a disco van and wait 12 months for delivery. The are for and against in everything if you not had a pickup in a business may be worth hiring one for a week. I had a hilux mk4 on hire for 3 months while I waited for the fantastic navara d22 to arrive, on paper even the new mk5 was poor against the nissan. But the Nissan was total rubbish and the Hilux with 200k on the clock was great.
  21. If 6th is top left where have they put first ?. Bottom right is bad news for reverse because it could be possible at top speed.
  22. I am amazed running a business with scoring 40 they took you off the road. I have come across people 2nd offence blowing 80 odd. They grizzle about loosing their business and get away with no ban and a big fine. Drink driving is bad news but you may of only had a pint but at least you never hurt anyone.
  23. If you own more than 5 vehicles Ford will give 4k off if you buy 2 you get another 4k off. Basically if you run a small fleet big discounts
  24. Now that could be worth the wait.
  25. Just my opinion Keen on hilux isuzu dmax would not bother again with the following navara , anything Ford, anything Mitsubish, Landrover
