  1. tommer 19k for a machine built in this country is not what i would call cheep especially when its is a 7.5 inch chipper not a 9 , yes i agree that schleisling, vermere etc are more expensive by far but look at the pound against the euro at the moment pluss import fees etc , and alot of the gear brought in from the eu or usa is actually put through alot more testing before it is allowed to be sold as a product .
  2. to be honest i can not see that changing the bearing type is going to add that much to the price of the machine , yes Timberwolf are going to have to re design aspects of the chipper system but in my oppinion this should have been done already as the problems with bearings on most TW chippers is a long standing problem that TW are aware of . i will agree that the chippers do not seem to have the same bearing trouble if you are not chipping to the machines full capacity regularly but on the other hand why buy a machine that your affraid to use to its full capacitty ? . The annoying thing is that if they were to resolve the bearing issue on only the 190 then they would have a cracking chipper .
  3. No tommer the answer is still YES there is a problem ! the 190 weighs 1.3 tons and i was not interested in a chipper that is sub 750 kg thus meaning timberwolf have far less excuse as to why sub standard parts a being used when clearly there is a long running problem . i dont expect a chipper that when new cost nearly 19k to be having these problems further to this i cant see that there is any reason that timberwolf can not change the bearing designs , in the long fun a timberwolf works out to be far more expensive to own when you have to contend with the costs associated with bearing failure ie, repair, hire of a chipper to carry on working with etc etc .
  4. i think Huck has hit the nail on the head - they are too compact for their own good
  5. it really is unacceptable your right . as for how many tree teams use timberwolf chippers i can only assume that it is because they are either the cheepest on the market or because people really are like sheep lmao ,
  6. you aint had it long have you ? i remember you posting that you had just got it . Much like you i love using mine and did not regret getting it BUT what does get me it that i should not have had to have the flywheel bearings changed after only 600 hours , we looked after the machine like a baby , and like i said in my first post i have now heard of one company having to change the bearings after 350 hours
  7. Hiya chaps , the reason for this post is that i have been looking into getting another chipper to two behind the ranger or transit(if i buy another one) . I used to run a timberwolf TW190 and found it to be a great chipper and appart from needing to change the flywheel bearings at 600 hours, i put this down to being un lucky and that was that , i then sold the chipper to buy a mog and ever since i have been questioning whether it was a good idea as i quite missed it . Any way over the last couple months or so i have heard from several other TW190 owners that they have had the same problem with the bearings as i did , the most recent that i heard of was this week was a tw190 that has only done 350 hours and needed its bearings replacing . So i thought i would ask you guys and see what your thoughts are ?? sure;y it is not acceptable that a machine worth nearly20k should require such works after so few hours . I should point out that this is not an oppertunity to slait Timberwolf but it is hopefully an oppertunity to gain some knowlege and possibly some info from Timberwolf .
  8. Again it can only be assumed that they will make a loss , i know of at least one firm down here where by the kit is all bought an payed for many many many times over , the chap does not invest in anything that is not a bare esential etc etc , and yes he can afford to quote super cheeply and not make a loss because he has at least one large contract that pays the bills and some . i personally dont feel that quoting cheeply is doing the industry any good what so ever and infact if these guys thought about it enough they would realsie that pricing realisticly may not win them all the work but what they do win will be better pating and may mean that they are only working 3 days instead of 6 days for the same money . but hey i guess its the nature of pricing
  9. once again this is not a personal dig at anyone but why is it that because someone has dared to quote cheeply that they must be idiots and cant do a decent job ?? i regularly quote against reputable companies down here that regularly will quote at hideously cheep prices but its simply to fill the diary thn keep the employed guys working even if they only break even , having said that i also quote against the same copmanies when they have plenty of work on and they are putting in prices 3x what they should be , i guess its just the nature of the industry , but what is not fair is to just jump in and assume that because the compettitor has gone in cheeper than you then they must be idiots that dont know what they are doing .
  10. tommer i would certainly give the guys at inn steel a go , im sure if you gave then the feed roler and asked them to replace the current teeth with something slighly more meaty thay would be abe to do it for alot less than buying from up country . and you will be back chipping sooner too
  11. personally i would speak to the council BUT make sure before you speak to them that you have a full and comprehensive RA and method statment, also have you spoken the the crane company about insurance against breakdown or dammage caused by the crane ? i was envolved in a crane job where the crane was parked in the middle of the road and as im sure you can imagine we had several roads closed and quite a feq diversions going on , half way through the job the crane broke down and could not be packed away and moved !! Now thankfully the company i was working for took out the correct cover through the crane company because it became VERY costly and the LA became reather hostile .
  12. Ady , i was refering to tommers post , but while im here who cares if the person is a "pro surfer" or a pro postman lol im sure you did explain it in great detail to the client . any way it will be interesting to hear how the job turns out .
  13. whats up with it anyway ? have you not tried anyone like satturn machine knives ? im pretty sure that they sell anything blade associated with chippers , including anvils .
  14. fair play , anyway whats wrong with £800 for a feed roler ? or are you looking for a bragain
  15. its a crap reason IMO , i used to work like this way and proven wrong so many times , how are the general public meant to know whats what when it comes to a profession that they know nothing about ? its like anything we all love a bargain (or what we think to be a bargain ) so why would the woman have any reason to doubt that the guy quoting £140 to do half a days work is to steep ?? maybe she is thinking that the quote for £300 was to steep or maybe inflated ?? . Anyway how can you deduce that smoeone that accepts the cheeper quote my be a bad payer ? this is not a big at anyone in specific just simply my thoughts
  16. i can see where you guys are comming from and it gets me just as much especially when you see the finnished product and it loks a mess ! Sadly the un educated customer thinks its grand !! . As for this case Ady i would have waited before saying anything , there are many variabes to take into account , has the guy got another small job in the same area that he can do on the same day to make up the money ? does he work a litle faster than you ? does he carry out his own TM (Trafic managment) does he feel that its only a small tree an its only half a days work ? does he feel the need to charge for a planning app in a cons area ? . Im really not having a dig at you what so ever but personaly i find that there sometimes is a valid reason as to why a quote is not accepted or even why the other guy is cheeper . if its someone you know then maybe when the job has been done why not have a look at it and if it is shocking then why not talk to the tree owners and maybe educate them a little ??? As for baising whether someone will pay a bill on time etc on the fact that they accepted a quote that was alot cheeper from someone elts is not really a good cause to be weeding out customers out at the moment .
  17. why not use the gas main to its full potential ? with a couple tyres to aid in the proces i recon you could burn the tree to the ground and possibly the stump as well being serious it sounds like a propper nightmare and wish you well getting the job done David
  18. personally i would give them a miss , if your looking for helmets and visors etc i would give justin at fr jones a call , with fr jones you know you are getting value for money and quality
  19. nice job Lorry , i hope you did not have any timber hanginh over your head on that job !!!! lmao , having said that i was not going to the apf but we did get called out to a pine tree with a large limb hanging over several cars .
  20. what will you be hanging / putting on it ? . seeings that the normall spans betwene uprights is normally roughly 8 foot then i should think that a single pole spanning 8"6 you should be able to load roughly 180-200 kg safely
  21. if you are using one single pole i can probably work it out for you , how are you going to be weight loading the pole ? ie will it be bridging or ??
  22. i have used both tw and jensen 6 ich chippers and the build quality is much better with the tw- we were using a 750 kg 6 inch jensen and if im honest i found that the engine hood was poor quality and not fitted that securly at all , the key and throttle are in a daft place where by in the winter they get lagged with mud and road dirt and the fuel tank does not carry enough fuel . on the pluss side the jensen was a turdo and did chip very well (the machine had only done 60 hours) . now the timberwolf's build qhality is much better , the key and throttle are in a better place , the fuel tank holds plenty of fuel and is far easyer to opperate but sadly not a turbo and slightly slower chiping with the anti stress cutts in more often ( this chipper has done roughly 550 hours) . i know some of you will probably not agree but i do think that a tw is the way forward unless your looking for a bigger chipper . Tw parts are cheaper and the tec's at tw are great if you have a problem .
  23. Really sorry to hear your bad news , i hope the opp goes well and you make a full recovery. Its great that even though you are in this situation you are taking the time to highlight the issue .
  24. im pretty sure that BS5837 is only enforced on certain construction sites, i have seen so many trees dammaged by either the construction of buildings or the construction workers . Recently a site near me had several tres taken down to allow for the construction of several dwellings which led to a public outcry and rightly so !! but why were none or the trees to be retained fenced off or at least a suitable cordon placed arround them ?? why were the trees being retained dammaged by the fools that took the trees down to make way for construction ??? . To top the situation off the LA gave a flimsey excuse that the trees being felled were " in poor condition and were not going to develop " . It was pretty clear that the trees felled were part of a stand of trees that should have been retained as a group that formed a screen and boundary to the adjacent road .
  25. im really sorry to hear about your stroke , i hope that you make a full recovery. i have a friend whos father had the same thing hapen to him , he is now enjoying life and has made his family and his health his first priority. on the other hand my mum married my step dad who ran his own carpet shop and fitting company , he always put family and friends first and would do anything to help anyone but sadly he died playing 5 a side football with his son , he was only 52 when he died from congenitive heard disease . I guess it ust goes to show the you dont know whats round the corner .
