  1. looks like you are gonna have to get the Tirfor winch out and creat some callouts for your self mate
  2. ha ha i was cross ways on a steep slope in the mog this week and my arse was starting to twitch lol ,
  3. go for a pair of stretch air trousers but make sure you get a pair of braces to go with them
  4. yes you can as far as i know . you can also use the bashlin velcro pads
  5. call it sad if you like but i pray for storms all winter long lol really enjoy working all hours of the day and really enjoy the excitment of not knowing what your going to turn up and have to deal with
  6. to be honest i would go sef employed , it gives you more scope to work in a wider area for several companies , there are also the tax benifits and your the boss , as for how much to charge it really depends on how good you are at your job and how much kit your willing to bring , i used to supply all of my own saws so if i needed a saw with a 30 inch bar sending up to me then it would be my saw that was sent up , if i had to take a rigging kit with me then they would be paying extra .
  7. good man , anything like that puts a smile on my face
  8. At the end of a hard day !
  9. Just chilling out !! !!
  10. A perfect picture of two silly pooches that are far from it!
  11. so true , i most enjoy working for good old bottom of the rung working class people , you turn up to do a fair job for a fair price, you get a couple cups of tea (with the odd biscuit) they are reasonable and understand that the job you are doing for them is less than simple . oh and in most cases they pay at the end of the job .
  12. i have read through this thread from start to finnish and if im totally honest i thing you need to STOP and get some propper training ASAP , i know its hard because you wanna get climbing and felling but there is much much more to tree surgery than you think . The best thing you can do is Stop trying to muddle through climbing and felling . Save up and get your self on your basic chainsaw , cross cutting and felling - then try and work for a firm as a GROUNDSMAN for a while , you will get to learn how to work on the ground propperly and how to understand the requirments of the climber and what he is doing . THEN an ONLY THEN you could thing about training for your climbing and areial rescue . It sounds harsh but there are any ammount of gunhoe fools that think they can do the job and often it leads to serious injury or death . any way good luck and hope all goes well , if you take in what the guys on here are telling you then you will do well . many of the guys on here have been doing the job for many years and know what they are talking about . any way good luck and i wish you well
  13. when employed by a company in devon i was envolved in a couple of jobs for Noel Edmunds and Jethro , neither jobs were at all enjoyable . kind of proved to me that money does not make happines at all !!
  14. save time and take the Merc shoppin steve, it will solve all of your problems - they cant open their door on to your body work , if there are not enought spaces you can deploy the Hiab and make a little extra room oh and if nothing elts im sure Mrs Steve would love the extra room for shopping in the back:thumbup:
  15. another one of bracken (he really is a mummys boy)
  16. here is Bracken he is my youngest springer of two , i will try and upload the pics of the Boss (bramble) they are two amazing boys who have loads and loads of charactor .
  17. I can see where your comming from Huck , i should have added that these trucks have to be tested to make sure that they are still up to insulated standards , and as has been stated they can not run the risk of the mog being off the road as it can be required 24 hours a day . every three years the mog is taken off the road and the hoist is taken to pieces then reconditioned and put back together. there is nothing taken to chance with these guys , no shopping round for parts , if the part needed was to cost say 9k there would not be a question about it , they would be ordering it (if they do not carry what ever it is as a spare) .
  18. western power distribution run all vehicles on white for some reason , as for servicing they have their own trained fitters (trained by merc) to do all of the work to their fleet . the reason the mog is so expensive to service is because the machine is running on its weight limmit all of the time due to the lift platform and kit its carrying - the breaks are fully services every three months , along with every thing elts , i will try to get a coppy of the spec sheet for you , the bloody thing has prety much every possible extra going and to top it off its kept in a constantly heated garrage when not in use . it really is some bit of kit huck
  19. to be honest david i would be inclined to ebay it and buy a new transcube bunded site fuel store , if you have a swinger of timber crane you will be able to load it and un load it from the back of a truck , the ruels for fuel storage have all been ammended in recent years and that tank will mostlikely not meet the current standards . especially if your on sites working for big nationals !!
  20. the biggest problem with that mog is getting it in anywhere , i was chatting to the driver of that mog when they first got it , he was telling me about how much fuel it drinks- the yard is in redruth, they fill the tank £240 they then drive 40 miles to a job near lands end use the mog for just over an hour and then drive back to the yard in redruth - the mog burnt just short of £80 worth of fuel , he then went on to say that they have to service the mog every 3 months and the service (done in house) costs roughly 2k . kind of putts you off having one for line clearence really especially when you or i could still not use it on live 11kv
  21. that is a nice bit of kit aint it we were out an a fult with that live line team in the winter and got to use it , but it aint no ordinary lift , it hs a crane facility, is fully insulated to work on live 11 kv lines , the hydraulic oil is actually a special fluid that will not conduct , oh and it cost them well over 200k to have it built but still it only reaches 20m but never the less its a great bit of kit
  22. its most likely to be next tursday or friday Alex , to be honest im kind of in the dark as we have been asked t go up and do the work on a day rate and i have only seen some pics of the tree . i find my self wondering why oh why do i get my self into these jobs lol but hey its a change of scene i guess
  23. roughly two transit loads of timber (2 ton loads) im not to worried about the chip as i can always bring it back to cornwall but would much rather i did not have to lol
  24. without sounding funny , why do you need to clean the tank out in the first place ? if its because of sawdast and other tree related crap in the tank then you need to address how and why its getting in there in the first place .
  25. cheers Mick, i will give them a try on my next legs day , what exercises are you using to train your ab's ? im currently using weighted russain twist's , planks, weighted crunches, leg raises and v crunches , however im just not making any progres with my ab's:thumbdown:
