  1. thats an interesting mod to your harnes , i usually tend to clip my working strop into the attachment points for the bridge (sliding d) on my skylotec , i find its a far more comfortable way to work on a pole as opposed to using the side D's , however if im sectioning down a pole then i usually tend to run my rope off of the attachment points for the bridge and hive my wire core flip line working of the side D's .

  3. sorry to derail the thread but has anyone changed the cv boots on their ranger ? im in the middle of changing mine but for what ever reason the cv joint will not come of from the drive shaft . any advice will b greatfully recieved

  6. hi Lorry , i used to were Stihl hi-flex and got sick and fed up of them falling to bits too . since then i have been using Stretch Air and have found them to be amazing , im currently using a pair of type A glads (is not winter down in cornwall yet) and have found them to be a great pair of trousers all round , i do believe you can get the glad's in either type A or C . I alos have a pair of standard type C stretch airs (for when winter finally gets here) and last winter i could not fault them at all but this winter i think i will buy a pair of type c glads as they are even harder wearing and more watter repelant . My only advice is if you get a pair of stretch airs get a pair of stretch air braces NOT stihl or husky etc - they are not elasticated enough as you nedd to wear the trousers with the waist band on you waist (not like you have got snoop doggs bis ass baggy pants on that sit just below your arse cheeks) any way hope this is of usefull info to you mate
  7. i currently run a mazda b2500 non turbo and a ranger tipper , both of these vehicles are great work horses , i have had the mazda nearly 5 years and in that time it has been abused every day its been out on site , in 5 years i have had alomst no trouble with it at all other than glow plugs etc , i have now had the ranger tipper a year and im really pleased with it , fair enough the fool i bought it off had not been totally honest but after sorting out the crap he had bodged its a great truck . the way i se it is if Western Power are prepared to use them for off road work then its man ebough for what i want to do .

  11. so whats the tree motion like for the bigger tree surgeons ? im currently using a skylotec but its due for replacment i was holding out for the new version of the skylotec but it seems to be taking for ever to be launched so i may well try the tree motion
  12. i totally agree with all that you said however i would not advise anyone to try changing the bearings on a 190 unless they have a good understanding of "backlash" as this pays a major role in the fitting of the bearings - timberwolf explained it to me and also explained how the check the bearings by temprature ! this made sure that i got the local dealer to do the work as it would be under warany and the fact that i was selling the machine and wanted it to be spot on for who ever buys it .
  13. its not so much beefing up the bearing its a case of being able to grease the bearings to start off with , the machines are constructed well and when you considder that a 190 is not chippng much more than a 150 i would be inclined to say its well built

  15. tommer 19k for a machine built in this country is not what i would call cheep especially when its is a 7.5 inch chipper not a 9 , yes i agree that schleisling, vermere etc are more expensive by far but look at the pound against the euro at the moment pluss import fees etc , and alot of the gear brought in from the eu or usa is actually put through alot more testing before it is allowed to be sold as a product .
  16. to be honest i can not see that changing the bearing type is going to add that much to the price of the machine , yes Timberwolf are going to have to re design aspects of the chipper system but in my oppinion this should have been done already as the problems with bearings on most TW chippers is a long standing problem that TW are aware of . i will agree that the chippers do not seem to have the same bearing trouble if you are not chipping to the machines full capacity regularly but on the other hand why buy a machine that your affraid to use to its full capacitty ? . The annoying thing is that if they were to resolve the bearing issue on only the 190 then they would have a cracking chipper .

No tommer the answer is still YES there is a problem ! the 190 weighs 1.3 tons and i was not interested in a chipper that is sub 750 kg thus meaning timberwolf have far less excuse as to why sub standard parts a being used when clearly there is a long running problem . i dont expect a chipper that when new cost nearly 19k to be having these problems further to this i cant see that there is any reason that timberwolf can not change the bearing designs , in the long fun a timberwolf works out to be far more expensive to own when you have to contend with the costs associated with bearing failure ie, repair, hire of a chipper to carry on working with etc etc .

  19. it really is unacceptable your right . as for how many tree teams use timberwolf chippers i can only assume that it is because they are either the cheepest on the market or because people really are like sheep lmao ,
  20. you aint had it long have you ? i remember you posting that you had just got it . Much like you i love using mine and did not regret getting it BUT what does get me it that i should not have had to have the flywheel bearings changed after only 600 hours , we looked after the machine like a baby , and like i said in my first post i have now heard of one company having to change the bearings after 350 hours
  21. Hiya chaps , the reason for this post is that i have been looking into getting another chipper to two behind the ranger or transit(if i buy another one) . I used to run a timberwolf TW190 and found it to be a great chipper and appart from needing to change the flywheel bearings at 600 hours, i put this down to being un lucky and that was that , i then sold the chipper to buy a mog and ever since i have been questioning whether it was a good idea as i quite missed it . Any way over the last couple months or so i have heard from several other TW190 owners that they have had the same problem with the bearings as i did , the most recent that i heard of was this week was a tw190 that has only done 350 hours and needed its bearings replacing . So i thought i would ask you guys and see what your thoughts are ?? sure;y it is not acceptable that a machine worth nearly20k should require such works after so few hours . I should point out that this is not an oppertunity to slait Timberwolf but it is hopefully an oppertunity to gain some knowlege and possibly some info from Timberwolf .

Again it can only be assumed that they will make a loss , i know of at least one firm down here where by the kit is all bought an payed for many many many times over , the chap does not invest in anything that is not a bare esential etc etc , and yes he can afford to quote super cheeply and not make a loss because he has at least one large contract that pays the bills and some . i personally dont feel that quoting cheeply is doing the industry any good what so ever and infact if these guys thought about it enough they would realsie that pricing realisticly may not win them all the work but what they do win will be better pating and may mean that they are only working 3 days instead of 6 days for the same money . but hey i guess its the nature of pricing
  23. once again this is not a personal dig at anyone but why is it that because someone has dared to quote cheeply that they must be idiots and cant do a decent job ?? i regularly quote against reputable companies down here that regularly will quote at hideously cheep prices but its simply to fill the diary thn keep the employed guys working even if they only break even , having said that i also quote against the same copmanies when they have plenty of work on and they are putting in prices 3x what they should be , i guess its just the nature of the industry , but what is not fair is to just jump in and assume that because the compettitor has gone in cheeper than you then they must be idiots that dont know what they are doing .
  24. tommer i would certainly give the guys at inn steel a go , im sure if you gave then the feed roler and asked them to replace the current teeth with something slighly more meaty thay would be abe to do it for alot less than buying from up country . and you will be back chipping sooner too
  25. personally i would speak to the council BUT make sure before you speak to them that you have a full and comprehensive RA and method statment, also have you spoken the the crane company about insurance against breakdown or dammage caused by the crane ? i was envolved in a crane job where the crane was parked in the middle of the road and as im sure you can imagine we had several roads closed and quite a feq diversions going on , half way through the job the crane broke down and could not be packed away and moved !! Now thankfully the company i was working for took out the correct cover through the crane company because it became VERY costly and the LA became reather hostile .
