  1. hiya guys , i have recently been wondering if biomas would have a place in domestic heating . Would it be possible or viable to burn biomas in wood burners , or possibly be used to vary coal-biomas ?? Has anyone tried this? or do you think that it is a non starter ?
  2. nice work , looked like a ritel little thinker of a job . well done
  3. come on guys its 11 at night and im not feeling peckish . to add to the thread do any of you use a smaller file than normall when the chain gets over half warn ? or is it just me
  4. teddy bear ham , not had that in ages hmmm might have to get me sum for next weeks lunches
  5. there are some guys on here that have been in the industry for many many years and possibly have forgotten more than you or i know about the industry BUT still these guys ask questions that in some cases us younguns can answer or at least add some imput to the subject , in an industry where systems of work and tecniques are constantly being updated and replaced i feel that Arb Talk is 100% worth it and so are the "silly questions" even if they only give you a laugh after a long day on the saw's . I personally have learn an awfull lot from some of the guys on here .Had it not been for Arb Talk i would not have seen the light of the unimog and certainly would not have had the help that i have needed allong the bumpy road owning a mog .
  6. just been wet down here today in cornwall , i dont think that the wind was that strong down here . we had a coule minor jobs- tree fallen on side of car and a hanging limb but nothing to talk of , last year was much much better for emergency work , i didnt go home from work for three days lol
  7. having used both the l200 and ranger for tree work i really can not fault the ranger , ours is a tipper , it spends most of its life off road and gets worked hard but stands up to what we do with it and does what we need , as for the l200 i would not get one if i knew it was going to spend most of its time off road doing what we do with the ranger , the rangers are relativley cheep to service and repair as opposed to the l200, however if your looking for a truck for road miles and not working it hard then i would go for the l200 .
  8. that is certainly the one bit of callouts that i do not enjoy , im sure some of you have been to jobs in which your clearing up a fatality , i have been to several and can prommise that its not at all plesent , i personally found the firs couple i went to very hard to get out of my thoughts for a couple days .
  9. free hand for me , i have tried to use file guides recently but can not get on with them at all , its alot quicker without the guide. I guess i learnt to because the firms i worked for did not have and file guides - it is certainly one way in which you learn to pay attention to doing the job properly . if you have your own ground saw and its cutting like a bag of crap you son get fed up with it not cutting as it should , especially when all of your work mates are on your case because you are taking far to long to saw up timber .
  10. give alex price a call , he will get you sorted mate
  11. thanks Isaac, another option to throw in the mix is the size of the log , if you cut slighly smaller it takes far more to fill a tipper or dumpy bag , i once worked for a guy the demanded we cut logs bigger and into awkward shapes !!!! he did prove to me that it takes quite a bit less timber to fill a truck that way
  12. can you / would you want to measure by M3 ?? if it was wood chip, sand, gravel etc i would go along with the idea but logs ??? how much is simply fresh air ? surely a quality load of timber is in most cases worth what its being sold for ? if dangerous bri was to turn up at my door with a load of logs i would be happy to pay £95 for , infact i would think i had a deal , however i have seen other firms passing wet pine off as seasoned hard wood
  13. best not post anything about girls and a cup ha ha ha ha ha ha
  14. i think that i would be a little less worried about how much they say the truck holds and more concerned about what timber your getting , personally i would be quite happy with slighly less timber than i expected if it was decent quality timber . When selling logs i simply sell by the cabstar load not by cubic volume , if im asked how much that is i simply answer "its a cabstar load" if they want the dimensions of the tipper they can have it and calculate what they like . Hope this is of use to you
  15. was just looking on flebay and saw a mog with a hiab fitted to the front of the mog , have any of you ever done this or seen it done ? i would have thought that the weight would be way to much ? Tree Surgeon tipping woodchip box body on eBay (end time 19-Nov-10 18:44:14 GMT)
  16. or a timber trailer anyone ? Timber Trailer Crane Hiab on eBay (end time 18-Nov-10 21:10:36 GMT)
  17. nice looking farmi for sale - looks nearly new , could be a bargain for anyone wanting a pto chipper:thumbup:FARMI CH260 PTO 12'' Woodchipper, chipper, forestry on eBay (end time 18-Nov-10 16:07:44 GMT)
  18. tommer you will never be able to alter that so that you can pull your chipper with it mate !!!
  19. the way i see it it the market value depicts what you can charge , down here in cornwall you cant charge £600 per day , well you can but you aint gonna be getting much work . i hear of some firm actually knowingly taking a loss on jobs just so that they are working. as #steve Blair has said there is no point in working if you are not covering your costs. But WHY do people feel the need to work the cheeply they are loosing money or " buying work" ???
  20. why's that then Bob ???
  21. i have the same problem with chips going everywhere , i have decided to use 3.5 mm ally for the roof so that its durable to stand on , also when fitting it i would advse rivetting it down by before you rivet it i would spread some sikaflex along all of the steel work that the roof is fitting too , this way you bond the roof to the frame work thus reducing noise and rattle from the roof when driving or chipping . then simply finnish with a good few rivets .
  22. wicked cheers for sharing them matt , but the missus has seen the pics now so looks like a third is on its way for sure lol
  23. wicked thanks mate looks like she will have a third soon lol
  24. that is pretty amazing Matt how do you find your dags get on as a pack ? we currently have the two but my missus would love another , just not sure how the two brothers would accept an outsider
  25. if it were me i would be appealing their decision , i would be asking if they had taken my turnover into considderation , also how many examples of a similar size tree surgery outfits opperating from industrial premises - i know firs hand that as a small firm it does not work and have only now finnished my 4 year lease . secondly do you not grow trees ? i would reccomend doing so prior to aplying for planning , mind you i am fortunate that my father is a planning consultant . please dont think that im dismissing what you have said as im sure LA's work in different ways from area to area and thank you for sharing your experience with me
