  1. Right chaps i have finally got fed up with Haix Boots falling appart(soles falling off) so im sat at the computer looking at which boots to buy , im looking at either Meinle Airstreams or the Klima Air Zermats . Now before i buy them i thought i would ask the advice of any of you that are using either boot's . im idealy looking for a boot thats waterproof, will put up with utility work , spiking and obviously climbing . This maybe of use to you as well Ady i really appreciate any advice given thanks in advance guys
  2. everyone makes mistakes from time to time thats part of being human - i would call it negligence if this were to hapen again tho but im pretty sure the price of a new pair of boots minimalising the proffit in that job should put yu off doing that again . as for the customer im sure like many on here you will wearn to take their BS with a pinch of salt and crack on with the work
  3. im glad that you are ok Ady , and im sure it has made you think twice before doing anything similar again ! . I once worked for a compqny where the new lad who had not long been in the game did a simalr thing and caught the bottom of his trousers - thankfully he was not hurt BUT as soon as we got back to the yard and had filled out the accident book he was sacked on the spot !. The boss deamed it as groce neglegence . personally now that im an employer i think i would possibly go down the same route . Anyways im glad that everything is ok and you are not hurt mate
  4. I run a single cab with a tipper and chip box - it works really well , but then i do have a mog for most of the chipping , however we have used the Ranger so manytimes when other 3.5 ton trucks would not fit . as for carrying cappacity i can carry pretty much as much as a 110 tipper in the ranger (overloaded) anyway i would guess that a king cab with a tipper would carry as muh as my single cab with tipper and toolbox .
  5. see what i mean !!! beaten to it !
  6. im pretty sure you will fine the relevent info in the AFAG leflets regarding tree climbing , im pretty sure Bob or one of the other LA guys will be able to tell you word for word what it states
  7. she took him by the hand and led him to the .............
  8. to be honest if you are not happy with him being your groundy with no cs38 then i really do not think you need to quote rules to him , simply tell it how it is - you are not prepared to work like this again ! no if's no but's its simple if you do not feel happy working like that then as a freelance climber you do not have to , im sure that there are plenty of guys here that would agree with you . so did you have to do all the chipping and clearing up as well ?
  9. when ever dangerous bri has been cutting firewood !!! . now seriously i sharpen my ms200 one a week i guess and my ground saws get a tickle when ever they feel like they have lost their edge .
  10. who won ??
  11. ha ha ha feck that then huck , i can just imagine the calls i would be getting from rather angry customers minus their house lol . So i take it there is no use for it with the domestic Firewood/ Fire fules industry
  12. hmmm maybe a little more than a couple high lift wedges and a sledge could have handled !!!!!
  13. it may not be of any use but i was chatting to dangerous brian and he has his timber delivered by M3 and not by the ton , maybe ask the supplyer how many M3 is on an artic load ? sorry maybe totally pointles !!
  14. how did you find that out huck ? . i was wondering if pure wood chip would be an acceptable burning medium maybe an alternative to coal .
  15. hiya guys , i have recently been wondering if biomas would have a place in domestic heating . Would it be possible or viable to burn biomas in wood burners , or possibly be used to vary coal-biomas ?? Has anyone tried this? or do you think that it is a non starter ?
  16. nice work , looked like a ritel little thinker of a job . well done
  17. come on guys its 11 at night and im not feeling peckish . to add to the thread do any of you use a smaller file than normall when the chain gets over half warn ? or is it just me
  18. teddy bear ham , not had that in ages hmmm might have to get me sum for next weeks lunches
  19. there are some guys on here that have been in the industry for many many years and possibly have forgotten more than you or i know about the industry BUT still these guys ask questions that in some cases us younguns can answer or at least add some imput to the subject , in an industry where systems of work and tecniques are constantly being updated and replaced i feel that Arb Talk is 100% worth it and so are the "silly questions" even if they only give you a laugh after a long day on the saw's . I personally have learn an awfull lot from some of the guys on here .Had it not been for Arb Talk i would not have seen the light of the unimog and certainly would not have had the help that i have needed allong the bumpy road owning a mog .
  20. just been wet down here today in cornwall , i dont think that the wind was that strong down here . we had a coule minor jobs- tree fallen on side of car and a hanging limb but nothing to talk of , last year was much much better for emergency work , i didnt go home from work for three days lol
  21. having used both the l200 and ranger for tree work i really can not fault the ranger , ours is a tipper , it spends most of its life off road and gets worked hard but stands up to what we do with it and does what we need , as for the l200 i would not get one if i knew it was going to spend most of its time off road doing what we do with the ranger , the rangers are relativley cheep to service and repair as opposed to the l200, however if your looking for a truck for road miles and not working it hard then i would go for the l200 .
  22. that is certainly the one bit of callouts that i do not enjoy , im sure some of you have been to jobs in which your clearing up a fatality , i have been to several and can prommise that its not at all plesent , i personally found the firs couple i went to very hard to get out of my thoughts for a couple days .
  23. free hand for me , i have tried to use file guides recently but can not get on with them at all , its alot quicker without the guide. I guess i learnt to because the firms i worked for did not have and file guides - it is certainly one way in which you learn to pay attention to doing the job properly . if you have your own ground saw and its cutting like a bag of crap you son get fed up with it not cutting as it should , especially when all of your work mates are on your case because you are taking far to long to saw up timber .
  24. give alex price a call , he will get you sorted mate
  25. thanks Isaac, another option to throw in the mix is the size of the log , if you cut slighly smaller it takes far more to fill a tipper or dumpy bag , i once worked for a guy the demanded we cut logs bigger and into awkward shapes !!!! he did prove to me that it takes quite a bit less timber to fill a truck that way
