  1. when you spend the entire time that your out walking with the missus constantly looking at trees
  2. to be totally blunt i think your going about tree work all the wrong way ! This may be your clients neighbours tree and your client may want the tree to be as small as possible or felled but that is not what the owner wants . What will you do when the owner decides to take legal action because you have destroyed his tree . and secondly you should think of this as a business card or an advertisment of your work and the standards you work too . My best advice to you is to keep a good standard of work , and get a coppy of BS3998 to thumb through.
  3. personally i would considder a 25% reduction followed by a 15-20% thin in roughly 2 years . Reducing a Sycamore by half its size will only result in prefuse Re-growth and the customer will not thank you in the end . But this is only my personal oppinion .
  4. I run a u1600 with a 10" chipper on the back and find it to be way more useful than any other vehicles i have had (transit tippers, 4x4's etc) but this is due to the ammount of comercial and utilitty work we carry out as opposed to domestic, this in its self makes it a worth while tool but i do not think that if the mojority of my work was domestic i would have a mog . we burn about 150 litres of derv every week but for still wel worth while when it comes to going anywhere and removing large quantities of chip and timber . But i certainly think a mog is a big commitment. when they go wrong they aint cheep to fix . I would maybe re think getting a u1500 as they are a bit more bulky than a u1200 or even a u1600 .
  5. personally i would considder transporting your chipper on the trailer with your stump grinder , from what i can remember you have a quick link type system on your chipper dont you - ie a triange frame that fits onto your linkage and a traingular resess on yout chiper ? . also is your trailer self braking ( like an ifor) or is it air braked ? im looking for a timber trailer to go behind my mog but obviously needt to be air braked which is a pita .
  6. I have used most of the chainsaw trousers on the market and have found the stretch airs to be the best , i currently use the gladiators and have found them to be hard wearing , not to hot and not as heavy as some of the other trousers . in fairnes it does depend on the type of tree work etc , we do a mixed ammount of work vairying from utility work, domestic , L/A , site clearence . if your not doing to much tre work and the work that you do is mainly domestic and your not climbing through bramble and over barbed wire then the stihls or sips will do you well .
  7. no it wont but when you are assured by the sole importer that the product (in my case a harness) then i feel there is a need to phone and ask questions such as - when will it be released or even if it is going to be released . in my case i was looking for a harness because i needed a new one , now i wanted to buy the newer version that i had so needed to find out if and when the harness was available . In this case it could be that someone is wanting/needing a new top handled saw but is willing to wait a couple weeks or month to try the new version thus meaning that a call to the dealer is in order to find out if the saw will be on sale in time or weather to buy another saw the sam has he has now . So in short yes in some cases it is needed to call and ask
  8. used an older one a about 3 years ago and found it to be quite good , but rater bulky for what it does compared to similar chipers . personally if i was looking for something this size i would be looking at a vermere or schlies as they have far more experience in building machines of this size . as far as timberwolfs go i dont think i would be looking at anything bigger than the 190. IMPO Hope this is of use .
  9. in all fairnes if you dant ask you dont get or get any info , for instance- in 2009 i went to the AA arb show and saw the new skylotec was on display , three months later it was not on sale so i called and asked why , they explained why and told me it would be out within the next 6 months ! nine months later i went to the 2010 arb show and still it was not released and to my knowledge it is still not available ! but there is nothing on the importers web site at all . You see so had i not called and asked i would not have known all this and frankly i find it pretty pointles to display a harnes at an arb show and state that it will be availabe soon when 18 months later its still not availabe and still not word as to when . So maybe some ONE should ask where the husky arborist saw it ( i would try to refrain from terming it as a "topper" ) lol
  10. thats a nice little leyland you have there bud
  11. nice , do you have any pics of the finnished job ?
  12. Forget Case and Massey go out and buy a Valtra !!! here is one for sale on Caledonian Foresetry- Used Valtra T190 tractor 50km 2005, front suspension, cab suspension, 6000hrs, full reverse drive, air condition and fitted with a Kesla 305T 2009 double extension loader, electric controls, excellent condition .........................................................................................................P O A
  13. personally if you i was looking to buy a 660 i would buy one from a local dealer that has a god reputation , also if you are not totally sure as to how "genuine" the saw that you have seen on ebay is then i would stick well clear . second hand big saws really are not worth the trouble most of the time !!
  14. ys the 066 was replaced by the ms660 , verry little change from the 066 , im not being rude but why buy it from Ebay ?
  15. cool , i bought one of the first pairs sold by honey brothers and to be honest i found then to be crap , the fabric was way too week , but hey if they have changed the fabric then i may well get another pair , if only they did the gladiators in orange !!
  16. hiya , cheers for the recomendations , i tried Andrews but they sure know how to charge !!! not tried or heard of mjc so will give them a shout next week . cheers, Dave
  17. i use that harness and i love it , if your going to buy nother i would hold on a little and get the new version (when it finaly is available ) maybe jonesie knows when of if it will be out this year ??? it does seem better as it will have quick reliese leg loops and a few other bits
  18. well i have a fleet policy with trust and to be honest if i see so much as a penny increase this year i wil be finding another insurer nearly 4k a year to insure 2 ranger's , nissan navara, daf lorry , and my scooby is a little harsh to say the least !! oh and to top it all off to put my mog on there they wanted nearly another £600 quid !
  19. network rail use the stihl trousers as they are pre approved for track work , personally having experience in track side work i would not buy the stretch airs , i have a pair of the yello high viz trousers and the fabric is way to week for the track work mine did not do well against bramble etc .
  20. the positioner is designed for use as a cam for your side strop and lockjack is for use on your main line , i use both and im verry leased with both of them , i certainly would not turn back . they do take a bit of getting used to but once you have got the hang of them they can really make your job in the tree alot easyer.
  21. hiya , where did you get you ally planking from ? only asking as i need to build some back doors and a foor for my mog
  22. great stuff Steve looks a great chipper , also would be a bonus as the feed rolers dont run off of the mog either .
  23. sorry bud im running 24's
  24. which tp is it you have again Steve ? i am tempted
  25. or if you like you can simply only buy vehicles fitted with amazing heaters , our 7.5 ton daf M.E.W.P is amazing , 15 mins and your jacket is dry ! the mog takes a little longer but still better than wet trousers !
