  1. i would have thought a chiper on the back of a ranger or similar would be quite a popular tool , alto we use our mog for alot of utility work but there are times where two guys in a 4x4 chipper would be far better , no trailer etc etc .
  2. ha ha , i made more than £150 when i cut the last one we did up for firewood lmao
  3. we have the same problem down here in cornwall which is mad as we dont have that many trees anyway lol
  4. Ahhhhh i see . last year we did some work taking down several trees with rooks nests in them for the L/A - they made sure that we applied to natural england to get specific permision to disturb/remove the nests . Either that or a fairly large fine per offence - meaning per nest and there were about 15 nests !!!
  5. maybe nt the best thing to admit to removing on a public forum
  6. :confused1:When did tommer say that you ? you plank:laugh1:
  7. Yes toby , tyr oppie oils in redruth by sj andrews failing that the only other place maybe truro tractors
  8. your best option is to contact the forestry commision and get them to have a look for you . yes it may seem a little ott but in view of how easily Phytophthora is spred i would not be inclined to leave it too long . hope this may be of some use to you , also on the FC website you can get info on disease controle areas near you , we have a few down here in cornwall and it can make doing tree work pretty difficult , however the fines for removing wood chip, timber ,brushwood form a Phytophthora site is pretty hefty .
  9. i think i will wait for a second hand one to come up lol
  10. i bet you if you give F.R Jones a call they will be able to help you out , they are a top bunch of guys
  11. thts one stunning bit of driving , i never knew how hard driving a rally car was until a spent a weekend up at a rally school . I take my hat of to the guy but he still is a male away form the late Colin Mcrae .
  12. not alot as we have our own TM side of the company . but if we are working for another company then it is dependant - 2 way lights with lane closure including set up and take down for 24 hours is £210.00 + vat . however we have firms that use us a fair bit and get a reasonable discount
  13. not sure yet as she needs a couple more bods to run the course , would it be just you ? if so i will call her tomorrow and find out how soon , also ay be able to sort a site nearer the border to save some traveling for you . pm me if you want to with a contact number and i will call you as soon as i have spoken to nicky
  14. to be totally honest there is not a factory endorsed tyre for most of the current 4x4's , infact most munufacturers will void your warante if you fit mud terrains. Western power tend not to fit them unless they really have too . I run BFG MT2's on my ranger and can not fault them , they are a fair bit better than the origional mud terrains when off road and roughly as good as the old ones on the road . i would keep looking for some BFG's if i was you but should you not be able to get any then maybe try a set of these - Google Image Result for http://www.extreme4x4.co.uk/acatalog/insasptrack3L.jpg
  15. if anyone down this way (near cornwall) is looking to do their medium tree felling then give Kernow training a call , i spoke to nicky toda y and she is looking to run a course soon but needs a couple more candidates . im looking forward to a couple days trainin in the woods !!
  16. personally i think every tree surgeon starting out on his own should have an ldv to start off with . they are good old strong busses and cheep on parts , you could do far worse .
  17. pretty much what we did , waste not want not and all that
  18. i agree that unless you know what your doing then stay away until the power is off . But i didnt think that open wire can be used as a service (meaning pole to house ) im pretty sure under ESQCR this is not acceptable any more and should be changed to concentric .
  19. the 2003 rangers do not have a Dual mass flywheel , you will most ikely find that the clutch has got hot at some point and also the pressure plate may be a little worn , £2oo will get you a new clutch , we did it our selves which did help , also your ranger shoult have had a new cam belt at 90k , one tip is that once you have had a new clutcu fitted if you have any reversing up hills to do wth a trailer , where possible put it in low box .
  20. not being rude bob but had you considdered a crawler crane ? i have used on where the all terain crane could not get to due to soft ground and mud . Just an idea tho , is there an Ainscouh near you ? i know they have crawlers
  21. so what is at the top of the bank ? road ? car park ? grassed area ? only reason i ask is to see if you could use a crane ??
  22. but the other side does touch ??
  23. As huck said - not a big job , tke it to a mechanic who wil be able to do this in about half hour
