  1. Thanks Yeti , im pretty sure it is muscular - when thinking about what i lift at the gym im only benching 115-120 kg but deadlifting 210kg , and recently been concentrating on shoulders more ie lots of heavy shruggs . just thinking this could have been a big factor in it .
  2. why not try using plastic storage box ? i have been suing then and find them much better - ther are watter proof and dont fll appart - having said that i did get a husky bag about 2 months ago and its falling apart !!!!
  3. hmmmm well im kind of hopeing that mine does not come out again lol , but we shall see on wednesday when a see the consultant whether or not it will require lots of physio or surgery , i just really can not take the time of of work
  4. Cheers bud , i have taken it easy since wedneday and thankfully one of the chaps stood in for me working the night job that we had . but im back to work tomorrow and see how it goes
  5. you dont know what your missing NOT:laugh1:
  6. Hiya chaps just wondering if and of you are like me and from time to time (every couple or three years) suffer from dislocating one of your shoulders ?? it happened to me last wednesday whilst loading some timber. Thankfully after a couple minutes it slipped back into its socket but i now have the problem of trying to carry on working whilst trying to strengthen my coure shoulder muscles . Any advice would be greatly welcomed Cheers Dave
  7. i would say roughly £250 - as much as it has not been used much it is still 18 months old , if you can i would try to keep hold of it and use it when your not needing a bigger saw - far nicer and lighter to use for 8 hours a day
  8. Another angle to look at is what you expect from your groundsmen ? do you/your climbers expect that once the climbing is done that you/ the climber do not have to muck in with the ground work ? , is the groundy simply looking at his job as a job?. I had a guy that working for me that did not look to do anything unless he was asked - that way he thought he would have to do no more than he really had to do , he moaned when we workd a little late but did not moan when he went home early but was still paid for the day and even though when times were hard and work was quiet he was kept on . To sum up what im trying to say - each member of staff has strengths and weeknesses and should be paid accordingly no matter what their job role is . but i do feel that alot of the time you will get someone who feels they deserv a pay rise but will not ask the boss or feel that they can discuss this with the boss so they moan to fellow workers or even staff from other firms !!! this personally gets my back up to the point that any chance of a pay increase has gone out of the window . This is not directly aimed at any AT members but is mearly my oppinion
  9. hiya , i worked for a firm in devon that had one of the first fast tracks with i botex fitted behind the cab , it was great on the trobay and exeter citty council contracts as they were either roadside jobs or in parks etc , when it came to forrest work and site clerence jobs it was next to pointles , we still needed another tractor if we needed to get a winch, chipper and airbraked silage trailer to site . i personally would get a crane fitted to the mog, and this is not because i own a mog but because i have found it to be a realy versatile bit of kit .
  10. how can it be right that a man can have is house burgled and can still face criminal charges if he so wishes to defend his property ? . At one end of my small holding we have a quarry now you can imagine what would happen if i were to chase someone off of my property and they were to drive/ fall into the quarry , i would be the one in the dock !!!
  11. personally i have no time for the plod - its all good when they are pulling you for having a brake light out or because you have no numberplate on your trailer - this brings in revenue by way of fines , personally i would rather they were spending a bit more time stopping crime as apposed to advising on how to "try and keep the tools of your trade safe "
  12. had something like this happen to me in january , the plob knew who it was when i gave them the vehicle details but refused to pop round and see the guy , when it was explained to the copper that if they return they will be bighing off way more than they can chew the copper told me that then i would be breaking the law !!!!!
  13. i find the positioner to be really usefull and it is far more compact than a VT ir distel so that when your on a thin pole you can tighten the strop right up without the hitch touching the tree and slackening off . in my eyes its wort every penny
  14. hiya Rob , i totally agree with you , i had not mentioned that you could cut the rope if it was a lanyard as the question was asked with regards to a wire core flip line , but never the less a do agree , i tend to use an ART positioner on my lanyard but still use a distl on my flipline
  15. roughyl a meter for a small distal , i personally would not bother with a mechanicle grab on your flip line , a simple dislte and micr pulley will do exactly that same job , also in the event of you needing to be rescued it will be far easyer for the climber to cut the friction cord on your flip line than to try and release the mechanicle device. This is only my personal opinion and im sure many of you guys will use rope grabs on your flip lines and highly rate them
  16. Hiya Guys I’m currently looking for a Grounds man/ Newbie climber or even an apprentice to start work within my company. You will need to be hard working, punctual, and polite and be willing to work as part of a team. If this is of interest to you please feel free to PM me or better still give me a call on 07790206316 Many Thanks Dave
  17. if the tree is dead and posing an iminent risk then as long as you can prove that the tree is dead and dangerous , i should add that this is always a gamble and the L/A may still try to take action against you . In my personall opinion they would be barking up the wron tree so to speak !!
  18. glad to hear it mate
  19. i personally have had contrators tke the mickey and also staff do the same and try to get weekend work , what made it worse in one case was that the guy in question actually asked to borrow the transit and chipper !! .
  20. in actual fact no i dont take the work , for instance this week we were asked in to take down 2 large Monterey Cypress for anothe tree firm , at the end of the job the land owner asked for my advivce and recomendations on a sweet chestnut - i willingly gave my recomendations and explained that the tree has a tpo and will need a report wrighting to go in with the planning app , the customer then asks for my card so that they can give me a call , my reply was NO , and explained that they would need to ask the company whos job it is . i then made my client aware of the situation and made it clear that i would not be interested in dooing the dirty . My previous post was meant to explain that in many cases the land owner is not daft and in many cases will work out when their contracor is using subbies and often will ask themselves if they are paing to much . my job it to go in and get the work done. but im certsinly not going to hide that im not part of or the same company that won the job .
  21. Kernow training WILL train as far afield as plymouth , i personally highly reccomend them and in fact have just done my cs38/39 refresher with them and shortly will be doing my trainng for medium size tree felling with then .
  22. when i first started training i had no ned for suplements but as my training has progressed the need for suplements has become greater. the secret to gaining all round strength is to base your training arround some principle Compound lifts such as squatts , dead lifts and bench press the build your training programe around these . i train 3 days a week with weights and try and get a couple more sessions in at they gym doing some cardio (when work allows) . also the ammount of reps and sets you do will have quite alot to do with your development i tend to alternate betwene 5 sets of five reps , pyramid sets - 15-10-8-5 and 3 sets of ten , try and mix up your training programe and training style every 6-8 weeks and this will further help . And yes the right types of protein shake can help out along the way . i for one never thought i would be able to squatt 220 kg or dead lift that sort of weight but i now can and i will readilly put this down to all of the help and advice i have had from several trainers and fellow weight lifters .
  23. i regularly get asked by other firms to come in on jobs it may be as a climber or as a team with truck and chipper , i dont think twice about it , the customer ends up with my sign writen truck there and is probably wondering how come her contractor can afford to bring in a sub contractor and still make money off of the job ! in most cases i get the call next time direct from the customer .
