  1. how can it be right that a man can have is house burgled and can still face criminal charges if he so wishes to defend his property ? . At one end of my small holding we have a quarry now you can imagine what would happen if i were to chase someone off of my property and they were to drive/ fall into the quarry , i would be the one in the dock !!!
  2. personally i have no time for the plod - its all good when they are pulling you for having a brake light out or because you have no numberplate on your trailer - this brings in revenue by way of fines , personally i would rather they were spending a bit more time stopping crime as apposed to advising on how to "try and keep the tools of your trade safe "
  3. had something like this happen to me in january , the plob knew who it was when i gave them the vehicle details but refused to pop round and see the guy , when it was explained to the copper that if they return they will be bighing off way more than they can chew the copper told me that then i would be breaking the law !!!!!
  4. i find the positioner to be really usefull and it is far more compact than a VT ir distel so that when your on a thin pole you can tighten the strop right up without the hitch touching the tree and slackening off . in my eyes its wort every penny
  5. hiya Rob , i totally agree with you , i had not mentioned that you could cut the rope if it was a lanyard as the question was asked with regards to a wire core flip line , but never the less a do agree , i tend to use an ART positioner on my lanyard but still use a distl on my flipline
  6. roughyl a meter for a small distal , i personally would not bother with a mechanicle grab on your flip line , a simple dislte and micr pulley will do exactly that same job , also in the event of you needing to be rescued it will be far easyer for the climber to cut the friction cord on your flip line than to try and release the mechanicle device. This is only my personal opinion and im sure many of you guys will use rope grabs on your flip lines and highly rate them
  7. Hiya Guys I’m currently looking for a Grounds man/ Newbie climber or even an apprentice to start work within my company. You will need to be hard working, punctual, and polite and be willing to work as part of a team. If this is of interest to you please feel free to PM me or better still give me a call on 07790206316 Many Thanks Dave
  8. if the tree is dead and posing an iminent risk then as long as you can prove that the tree is dead and dangerous , i should add that this is always a gamble and the L/A may still try to take action against you . In my personall opinion they would be barking up the wron tree so to speak !!
  9. glad to hear it mate
  10. i personally have had contrators tke the mickey and also staff do the same and try to get weekend work , what made it worse in one case was that the guy in question actually asked to borrow the transit and chipper !! .
  11. in actual fact no i dont take the work , for instance this week we were asked in to take down 2 large Monterey Cypress for anothe tree firm , at the end of the job the land owner asked for my advivce and recomendations on a sweet chestnut - i willingly gave my recomendations and explained that the tree has a tpo and will need a report wrighting to go in with the planning app , the customer then asks for my card so that they can give me a call , my reply was NO , and explained that they would need to ask the company whos job it is . i then made my client aware of the situation and made it clear that i would not be interested in dooing the dirty . My previous post was meant to explain that in many cases the land owner is not daft and in many cases will work out when their contracor is using subbies and often will ask themselves if they are paing to much . my job it to go in and get the work done. but im certsinly not going to hide that im not part of or the same company that won the job .
  12. Kernow training WILL train as far afield as plymouth , i personally highly reccomend them and in fact have just done my cs38/39 refresher with them and shortly will be doing my trainng for medium size tree felling with then .
  13. when i first started training i had no ned for suplements but as my training has progressed the need for suplements has become greater. the secret to gaining all round strength is to base your training arround some principle Compound lifts such as squatts , dead lifts and bench press the build your training programe around these . i train 3 days a week with weights and try and get a couple more sessions in at they gym doing some cardio (when work allows) . also the ammount of reps and sets you do will have quite alot to do with your development i tend to alternate betwene 5 sets of five reps , pyramid sets - 15-10-8-5 and 3 sets of ten , try and mix up your training programe and training style every 6-8 weeks and this will further help . And yes the right types of protein shake can help out along the way . i for one never thought i would be able to squatt 220 kg or dead lift that sort of weight but i now can and i will readilly put this down to all of the help and advice i have had from several trainers and fellow weight lifters .
  14. i regularly get asked by other firms to come in on jobs it may be as a climber or as a team with truck and chipper , i dont think twice about it , the customer ends up with my sign writen truck there and is probably wondering how come her contractor can afford to bring in a sub contractor and still make money off of the job ! in most cases i get the call next time direct from the customer .
  15. lol, to be honest it only takes 5 mins , ideally i would have a front mounted chipper but you can only spend a penny once lol and there are plent other things i can/need to be spending money on before i get a front mount chipper , i have looked at getting reversing box but the only people that seem to have any are VOS
  16. it makes it a little more plesent on the road and eases the weight on the rear axle a little , also we find it rides a bit better round these little cornish roads lmao
  17. Yes indeed paul is a very very wise man when it comes to this industry for sure . I think the changes aead for AAAC's are all positive tho , but that is only my oppinion from the outside
  18. hiya Huck , yeah we managed to get the linkage sorted and it fitted perfectly, i may well sell if on again and look for a sliding linkage tho as i would rather reduce the overhang on the front axle , but in all honesty as this is my first mog im still pretty green to it all so any advice i get is welcomed .
  19. to be honest steve we currently use the front linkage to trasport the chipper back to the yard when the box is full of chip , before we can use the chipper on the front i will need to be getting a reversing box or finding a ducker or schliesing front mount for sale , as for the front springs i was not too sure if they needed to be changed or not , some say no and some have said yes , the chipper does only weigh 632kg
  20. I thought I should take the opportunity to thank Paul Smith from Arb Association and Dominic Scanlon from Aspect treeconsultancy And everyone within the Cornwall Arb Association branch for putting on an invaluable training day yesterday. The day was aimed at informing members from all areas of the tree care industry of the changes within BS3998 (2010), I for one found the day to be incredibly informative and in fact I went away with a new outlook to the role that a play within the Tree care industry. We also got the chance to hear from Paul Smith from the AA with regards to the all new small business Arb Approved Contractor Scheme and again i feel that this is something that many small firm can now look at becoming confidently involved in. I would urge anyone to take full advantage going along to the same training day should there be one happening as it worth every penny and I can assure you that the new BS3998 (2010) is totally different to the older version and in fact totally different to the draft publication that some of you may have. Once again I feel I must thank everyone involved in making yesterday a success:thumbup:
  21. well here is my little mog out at work (taken a month or so ago ) . i have spent the day fitting a roof to the chip box as im sick of chip going everywhere when its almost full , will post a couple more pics tomorrow or in the week with the chipper on the front linkage
  22. to put it bluntly chaps , Fountains have come on here to let anyone know thats looking for a job that they are taking on , every big firm has its problems and to be honest so do some small firms and that includes me , im sure tht there will be guys that are in need for work to pay the bills that will be keen to apply so why not keep it simply to a thread ofering possible employment rather than a less positive outlook to fountains .But this is only me personal opinion
  23. Yes , very very good bits of kit , having said that i have seen them used on a couple sites and unless you have a decent opperator at the controles things can get messy pretty sharpish !!!
  24. toomer you showed me the pics of a 130 of which the chassis had snapped , yes granted it was a landy with a mewp fitted but at no point has anyone marked this problem solely to landies with mewps on the back . and secondly your picture shows a lump of timber on a trailer and NOT on the vehicle its self . Oh and secondly the landrover shown in the picture is M Reg when i would expect that build cost and quality was not being compramised . as expected my oppinions would probably tough a nerve or two !! Never mind lmao
