  1. Hiya guys just loking for rough prices to pay for clearing wind blown timber from plantations . any advice welcomed
  2. i could ask you how you feel a one sided tree is safe ! . im not sure about you but after seeing first hand the results of someone cutting one side of the crown off of their neighbours tree because it was hanging over their garden and less than 6 months later the tree ended up on the property owners conservtory and rear extension . I would be inclined to say that a one sided tree can be rather dangerous , as far as siding off trees for utility work goes i would not considder doing any such thing to a medium/ mature tree . these days even utility work has to comply with bs3998
  3. all i would ad to what Huck has said is that if in the process of cutting the tree back to their boundary they make the tree unsafe (one sided) or ause the death of the tree then you can have them for it .
  4. hmmm well thinking about it if i was to work for someone and had to drive my scooby for work i think i wouls be needing to claim at least £1.50 per 1/2 mile let alone claiming for speeding tickets and points ha ha ha ha .
  5. mate i would charge what your happy earning and covering your costs for .It varies from firm to firm depending on their initial outlay , runnimg costs , machine , etc etc . my best advice is to sit down and work out your costs first , if another guy's tractor is bought and paid for and yours aint then its most likely he can charge less than you , therefore you could work on his prices on effectivley be working for free
  6. from my understanding if the trees belong to your parents then without prior consultation with your parents they have no right to be cutting the trees , however if there is a specific safty reason then most La's will carry the work out under deligated powers . do your parent own everything upto and including the river bank ? secondly i would not have given permission to do any tree work if there is a possibility of a tpo or cons area .
  7. just the man !!!! do you have or do you know of any timber for sale ? i have sold the 90 tons i had and they guy i supply is in need of more timber preferably as old as possible , not worried about length diamiter or species . while im on the subject do you know of any timber trailers for sale ?

    cheers

    Dave

  8. ahhhh i see , well how much would you want to cover fuel , a days wage for you pluss funning costs of the trctor ? im not beein cheeky but only you can work that out , personally i would give the local utility companies a call especially if you have a timber trailer too , also from time to time they may be interested for rail clearence . other than that contact your loca councils , i know if you were in cornwall i would have plenty of work for u
  9. to be honest if you are happy doing the work and you know that nothing has the potential to breach the proximity of the powerlines then there should not be a problem . but be aware if something does go wrong then you will be in a world of hurt . personally i would contact the utility co and notify them of you intent to cary out works to trees on a certain date and give them as much info as possible ie- address , pole numbers grid refrence and a detailed brief of the job .
  10. up at half six , at work for 8 then off to site with the lads to finnish of a shut down from last week , then went to look at some work , went back to site to find the mog up a small track and the lads having a wale of a time , picked up 2 truck loads of timber and back to the yard to do a load of logs and clean all the saw's so on the whole not a bad friday !!!!! What i aint told that lads is that we are back cutting some HV spans for the next couple weeks !!!!!! ha ha more playing in the mog !!!
  11. na Tomer is ratchet strapped to the front and using his husky395 to clear the way !!! lmao
  12. looks to me like your building a rather posh maze for extremely small children
  13. Hi Cosworth , where abouts are you too
  14. i love working on Holm Oak's , Beech, ash but i have to say i do enjoy working on Sycamores alot as well , as for trees to look at it has to be either a Red Oak or London Plane , sadly down in cornwal we dont get to many London Plane to work on .
  15. there is a muti task mulcher in the clasifides for hire , looks quite small and should get down the racks i guess , failing that a 360 with either a single tooth ripper or a mulching head
  16. hmmm might just have to buy me one of them , if nothing elts it will stop the boor slamming shut in the office lmao
  17. does that include bells whistles and red tape ?
  18. nope burning really is not acceptable !! think how many loads of fire wood you would lose !! Dynamite sounds better all round and its about the only way i can think of taking a tree down and having plenty of pre split timber !!!!
  19. where is the option for ladder and 3ply polly pro strop tied through belt loops on ill fitting jeans ??? lmao . on a serious note i do tend to vary which methoud i use dependig on the job and conditions .
  20. i have a guy that i supply timber downe here dought 2 log splitters to work off of his tractor spool valves, he bought them from the same guy and within 4 weeks of use they are boot in bit in boxes on the way back to the guy . Really poor workman ship and cheep replica parts are used !!! i would stay well clear of the guy . Having said that dangerous bri bought one of his early splitters to go on his tractor and its still going well after splitting roughly 400 tons of timber .
  21. I certainly do not regret buying my mog and it has proved to be a verry usefull tool , as far as im aware im pretty much the only tree surgeon running a mog in cornwall , it has alowed me to carry out off road work that no other tree surgeon's down here could look at doing , it has also shown just how usefull it is with some of our clients that we sub contract too as it can get pretty much anywhere and with a 10" chipper we can get through large volumes of timber and brash in a short space of time . it does have one main draw back and thats that is dont fit everywhere !!!
  22. my thoughts are with the poor lads familly . this just goes to show that acidents do happen , sadly not every acident can be rectified .
  23. if your going to look at welding then i would find a decent fabricator that can braize
  24. why not charge £120 as per your normal day rate ? your new to tree work and if this is your first reduction your going to need to take your time and make sure that you get it right . treat this as a chance to further your Arb knowledge. i would not think about charging a tree surgeons rate unless you are certain you can assure the same standards and service . without sounding patronising - there is far more to tree work than CS units !!
  25. surely you should be able to get parts for that spool valve ?
