  1. personally thet sound like a pair of half baked wannabe tree surgeons , clearlt bit of more than they could chew , sadly they didnt have the guts to come and explain this to your face . have you got any staff sorted yet ?
  2. at no point did i say that i could do it in six days ! but is seems that you have a good grip on where you going right so i dont think i could possibly compete with such experience
  3. well to cheer you up a bit more the fuel will be going up again tonight at midnight , oh and it does not look like oil will fall below 110 dollars a barrel any time soon . Happy Days !!
  4. 136.9 at chiverton near truro cornwall .
  5. i agree Steve , this goverment would do well to get the country anywhere near back on its feet any time within the next ten years , i will never understand how the previous goverment thought that buy trying to get everyone spending again and the spending being mainly credit card and loans that this would make things better !!! , i was reding a fund strategy magazine a few weeks back and as expected there was an article on the recession and acording to them the only social sector that will feel the pinch of the recession the least is infact the longterm unemployed !!.
  6. At no point have i said that i could with a digger but im pretty sure it i used a tractor with timber crane to do alot of my stacking and heaping brash then im pretty sure i would have a significant ammount more dont than you would
  7. i know you have the forwarding BUT a tractor and timber crane will make you life much easyer . maybe you need to re-assess how productive the opperation is at the moment , is a digger that much use or is there a better option ? also maybe see if you can get and see some skilled han cutters in opperation . Please do not think that i am knocking you , i am mearly trying to give you some ideas and pointers as i have done a fair bit of forrestry:001_smile:
  8. speak for your self Andy , i personally was not impressed in the VAT reduction as it was obvious that the only people that were going to suffer in the long run were the small/medium businesses like myself and many others on here . it is proven that the country is in a far worse state now than when the previous goverment brought the vat reduction into play . i guarante you the vat increase will stick arround far longer than the vat reduction did !!!!
  9. hmmm if i was not interested im milling timber before then i certainly am now .
  10. being vat registered is a pain in the arse and yes the 2.5% increase is only going to give 95% of my competitors a 20% lead as oppsed to 17.5% that they now have . i guess that the VAT allowance has not been incresed by 2.5% tho !!!! and i dont envy you justin
  11. Ahh i see you were meaning where silvanus are based , yeah they are based in both grampound and launceston mate . the offices are in launceston .
  12. have a look on pro climber for an assisted fell kit , this system is used for assisted felling when working in proximity to powerlines , it is verry effective , quick to set up and simple to use - should cost you roughly £260 ish . if you cant find anythin pm me and i can post some pics of the system we use . hope this is of use to you
  13. yes you can make money from it but you need to have plenty of experience on a saw and be able to work at industry pace , there are guys that have been doing this for years and robably one man coud do what three of you do a day because he has the experience and knows just how to make his life easyer in most situations . Im not saying that you dont know what your doing at all , just that you need to keep at it and things will get quicker as you gain experience. just a thought but is that the cheapest you can get the timber forwarded for ? i know its not alot of money but still its money your not getting
  14. what you on about tommer ?
  15. try giving jas p wilson a call , im pretty sure he has a couple valtra valmet's for sale at the moment
  16. :thumbup:good man !!! i look forward to the finnished product
  17. come on then whos gonna be the first to fit a set to an ms200 lmao
  18. i think this year is going to be tougher than the last , last year the recession was still being played down to some extent , the goverment were trying to get more people spending to "boost" the economy and all in all i can see people haveing a real eye opener this year . however it poses a time to Re think your buisnes module and see how and where you can tweek it . The bigest importance is keeping you head up think productivley and do not settle for second best . im sure there are many guys here that saw their way through the thatcher years and lets be honest it was far far worse than this recession . Any way i wish you all a prosperous and enjoyable working new year .
  19. we had a similar problem with out 288xp , it turned out that one of the spade conectors on a wire going to the coil had broken - roughly 16 pence and 20 mins in out workshop and it was fixed !
  20. without trying to sound rude or make light of what has been said , i think that at the grand old age of 21 i was still making mistakes and i think if we all loked back most of us could remember doing something silly that could - hurt, offend, put someone down , infact i would expect that some of us can think of a more recent occasion too ! . yes i agree that a public forum is possibly not the best of places to comment on a work situation or a work mate. but we do all live and learn , well most of us , im sure matt will not make the same error of judgment again . but if he does then im pretty sure he will end up learning the hard way
  21. totally agree Jon , it was only meant as tomething to take into consideration , bri has been uing his without changing it but it would be something that could do with being bigger , but totally agree that for the price your paying then its nowt that cant be fixed for a couple quid and a welding rod or two .
  22. again i agree huck , i know a couple guys who have bought timber from a certain timber merchant - one paid for timber by the ton the other by the cube - the chap buying by the ton got a load of wet timber that was covered in mud and crap , the other guy buying by the cube got a load of "Hardwood" that the majority of it was either that small you could chip it with a bosh garden shredder or if it was of decent size it was half rotten ! both guys paid the same price and both guys could ended up with a load of timber that ended up costing more to proces thus making it pointles . so yes either way you buy timber is pretty much gamble in some ways , personally i think if i was to be buying timber i would want to go and see what i was buying before hand .
  23. Dangerous Brian has one of these splitters , it has split near on 400 tons of timber over the last two years and is still going strong , the only problem is the size of the bed , if you are splitting large rings it can be a pita but other than that its faultles .
  24. i agree totally with what your saying huck , but the big problem with buying by the ton is that a load of wet oak , pine , is going to weigh far more than a load of larch , ash ir sycamore that has been harvested and left at road side for a while. however i guess that the other problem is that buying by volume as oppased to weight your going to be more likely to bet smaller diamiter timber to make up the load .
  25. i use and ART positioner and swear by it , i have only been using it few weeks and previously was using a distel and micro pulley , i found that it got in the way some times and not as accurate as i can be with the positioner , some may knock modern mechanicle devices but untill you use them and see just how much of an improvment they can make i would not knock them .
