  1. just finished 'The rifleman', ww2 autobiography. A good read
  2. That's pretty much my opinion.
  3. Ok, so when my son starts to learn to drive, can I put his lessons and insurance through my accounts?? My son already works part-time for me. He would like to learn to drive when old enough. Could I offset my tax expenses by claiming back driving lessons and insurance? Naturally, he would be working for me (the company) His insurance as a 17 year old would be high, but would this be acceptable to HMRC? Could I use his lessons as 'training' and say I need him to be able to drive, for the benefit of 'the company' Anybody any thoughts?
  4. Living in the Yorkshire Dales where I do, I hate to say it but it's almost common for bikers to be killed, especially during the summer months. Our town is packed on a weekend with bikers, who bring good money and business into the town. Unfortunately, it's true that a lot of bikers have been tarred with the 'idiot' brush in my local area. This is far from true. I think it's fair to say that the majority drive carefully. but there are idiots, both bikers and car users on the road. Unfortunately, you have very little protection if you have a crash on a moterbike. A lot more lives would be saved if there was a clampdown on dangerous drivers, whatever vehicle they drive. Perhaps, harsher fines or vehicles and licences removed from owners. It's always very sad about any road deaths.
  5. Sorry, David. Please don't put me with the 'scumbags'
  6. Whenever you get a group of a few hundred people together you always get the odd scumbag, cleverclogs It's would be just the same if you were a member of a golf club, visit your 'local' pub, go to a football match etc. I think quite carefully about what I post; in the hope of not upsetting or belittleing anyone. Most, but not every one else do the same. .
  7. Just by reading this post, your helping to ruin the planet. Your Laptop etc, needs to be manufactured, recharged and disposed of. I don't know what the answer is?
  8. I buy most everything online now. My local dealer is 17 miles away, and will probably wonder what's happered to me. I buy online due to price, and have never had a problem with any of the dealers advertising on here.
  9. compared with mad cow disease this is making a mountain out of a mole hill. Millions of cattle were thought to be infected and it crossed over to sucesptible people. It has so far killed about 170 people. It was thought at one stage that hundreds of thousands of people would die from the disease. Thankfully, this has not been the case (so far) This is more a case of fraud, and is serious. Needs to be stopped, and those accountable brought to justice, but can't be compared to the mad cow disease scare.
  10. I still climb like that now, but with addition of flipline. Don't know any other way. Probably too old to change now
  11. Take the filler top off the tank. Remove the oil filter, and take a look. Simple as that. The oil fill level is marked on the outside of the tank. Without taking a look (too wet outside) I think it's a bolt head or something or other (it faces the rollers) on outside of tank
  12. This scam has been around for a while now. They are quite convincing, and I know of a couple of people who have been taken in by them. Just put the phone down on them.
  13. If he manages to average 4 days week, it's still about a grand a week. I'd be happy to turnover about £50,000 a year for one man, a van and a chipper. I presume some of you would'nt be happy with that???
  14. Whenever, you put a price up on here, there will be people, who's opinions differ. Personally, I think that price for a van, 1 man and chipper is fine. If eveything's paid for you should be ok. Different matter if you have a van and chipper on finance, with business loans etc.
  15. I can get out about 90% of logs, just chuck the rest out
  16. I would recommend saturn blades. Just as good as genuine
  17. Don't buy anything from Soneve. Cheap rubbish
  18. No, You don't have to use a chartered accountant, if your a ltd company
  19. Not a chance, more red tape, costs and form filling. Count me out
  20. I think you qualify anyhow, as I only pay myself around £580 a month. The rest I pay in dividends. Very low paid workers will pay no NI, but still qualify. This is much the same, as dividends don't count. (I think)
  21. I'm Ltd and haven't paid a penny in NI for a good few years now. I'm also VAT registered (voluntery) and don't find the paperwork too much. No more than a couple of hours a month. Don't be put off by the paperwork, it's not too bad. Any probs, I just give the accountant a quick call.
  22. Put your idea on Dragon's Den. You'll make a fortune.
  23. Burnley: spent the late 1980's and early 1990's watching them all over the country. Loved it.
  24. Thin I'll ebay it
  25. Buy a cheap, deep plastic one. (25-30 quid) Use and abuse, then throw away. That's my advice
