If he manages to average 4 days week, it's still about a grand a week. I'd be happy to turnover about £50,000 a year for one man, a van and a chipper. I presume some of you would'nt be happy with that??? -

Whenever, you put a price up on here, there will be people, who's opinions differ. Personally, I think that price for a van, 1 man and chipper is fine. If eveything's paid for you should be ok. Different matter if you have a van and chipper on finance, with business loans etc. -
I can get out about 90% of logs, just chuck the rest out

I think you qualify anyhow, as I only pay myself around £580 a month. The rest I pay in dividends. Very low paid workers will pay no NI, but still qualify. This is much the same, as dividends don't count. (I think)

I'm Ltd and haven't paid a penny in NI for a good few years now. I'm also VAT registered (voluntery) and don't find the paperwork too much. No more than a couple of hours a month. Don't be put off by the paperwork, it's not too bad. Any probs, I just give the accountant a quick call.

ok, about 3 years ago I bought a Willans T22 half harness, to replace my old willans T22 full body harness. The problem I have is that no matter how tight I have the harness, it always seems to work loose, and is terrible with saw hanging from it. I keep going back to my outdated, T22 full body harness, which I love. What am I doing wrong, or is it just this particular harness?

Just read your update. If it's just tree planting and nothing else, you should be able to get in at least a thousand a day in reasonable going. When I was a lad we were planting around that a day and were screefing them too.

gollum's pricing is pretty good. If you can, go for 40-60cm trees. Cheaper and a lot easier to put spirals on than 60-90cm (usually). I'd avoid mulch and spray with Kerb-flo after planting, if possible. (naturally, you might have to follow the spec). Also, learn how to really put spirals on. There is a very easy way that works on trees that have a bit of clear stem. I'm not sure if anyone else uses it, but if you hold the top of the spiral with finger and thumb, you can run your other finger and thumb along the length of the spiral to oppen it up, the bottom of the spiral goes around the base of the tree, and the spiral folds naturally around the tree. My descripton of this is the best I can think of, but it's a lot quicker than wrapping the spiral around the tree, if it wont just slip over. Takes a bit of practice though.

can't stand them. The petrol one seems to stick when you take it off. Tried swapping with another and it still does it, and the oil one is just a faffing pain. bring back the old screw type, asap. Only got them on my ms200's -
Armstrong, I believe has now admitted that he used drugs. He and any other drug cheat should never be allowed to compete in any sport again. Spare a thought for any 'drug free' cyclist who competed against Armstrong and gave 100%, and lost to a bunch of cheats. Imagine their dedication and all the thousands of honest hours training they went through.

I had it when i was about 20, a long time ago. I started with a severe stabbing pain in my left ribs (Very painful). A few days later, I got the blisters on the right hand side of my back (not too painful). That stabbing pain was the worst thing about having shingles. I was very stressed at the time, and am convinced it was brought on by the stress. I first got the pain, and rang the local doctor, who said don't come down just yet, I'm just watching the 3.15 at Kempton. This was in the days when you could just give them a ring and pop down to see them anytime, even weekends.

Best advice I could give you is get the main rotor bearing checked, check no fins are broken and check the no stress is working. Like someone else said, if everythings working ok on it, it's probably worth the money. If it needs a few repairs, then it may be a little dear.

Iv'e had my 2001 entec for at least 6 years, never had a bearing or a fin go in all that time.

How do you employers stay on the right side of the tax man?

I'm not sure how the tax man can come after an employer for a genuine labour only contractors not paying his tax. If it's like you say and the odd day here and there, then it's surely the contractors responsibility to pay his tax, not yours. For example, if I was a private home owner and got a plumber in to fix a leak. I pay his invoice and it's up to him to sort his tax affairs out not me. Am no expert though. |I would ask my accountant. -
His autobiography is a good read. Came across as a decent bloke. RIP storming Norman.
