  1. CHAS is just an exercise in form filling, that costs you money. It used to be every 2 years, now I think its every year. In my opinion anyone with any sense could fill in the forms, telling them just what they want to hear, and get accredited. However, it may get you a bit more work. I had to do it to work for Caravan Club, but have since let it lapse. Have no plans to go through all that paperwork again.
  2. I once set a dead elm alight with sparks from a 372. Burned for 2/3 days during hot and windy weather. Poured gallons of water on it, but it did no good. Just kept re-lighting in the wind. Really was very dry, but rotten wood. Right next door to a school outdoor holiday Centre. Was rather embarrassed about it. I've noticed this problem on 2 husky 372's
  3. Are some comments on this thread for real???
  4. Interesting photo's. Well worth a look
  5. :001_smile:I hope you don't blame me Chris
  6. Sounds like you sell the best logs in the country. Genuine and delicious.
  7. The other regulations I was thinking about are: for example, if the tree was occupied by bats.
  8. Can someone tell me where in the Regulations you need to give the notice. Have looked through them
  9. I've just been looking through the 2012 TPO regulations. Have also looked on different LPA web sites and an struggling to find an exact answer. If I want to fell a dead TPO protected tree, I know I can. BUT, do I need to give 5 days notice to the LPA???. Some LPA websites say I need to give them 5 days notice. If I do, then WHY. Would there be some other regulations that could stop me felling the tree? This is a hypothetical question, but is bugging me.
  10. PQ17 was probably the most infamous RN cockup of the war. However, there were others. For example, the sinking in the English Channel of HMS Charybdis and HMS Limbourne in 1943. The loss of these ships was, I believe the largest British loss of life in The English Channel during the war. The sinkings were apparently used by the RN for years after as an example of how not to do things. Around 500 men were killed.
  11. A terrible misjudgment by the admiralty. Left to their fate with no one to protect them.
  12. Jeremy Clarkson presents this program about the devastating attack on convoy PQ17, as it sailed from Iceland to Murmansk (Russia) Will definitely be watching.
  13. By the way, one sold this week in very good condition with rope on internet auction (not ebay) for £50 plus 15%, buyers fee and Vat. An absolute bargain
  14. I never take the rope out of the winch, if the end is frayed its a pain to push through the winch. I just wrap rope up and tie up with a cable tie. Also, I don't bother too much with a long rope, use a polypropylene rope attached to wire rope.
  15. This was bugging me for a while. I thought it may be paulownia, but the fruits looked different to those showing on the web. However, the fruits showing in your photo are young fruits. This confused me. Enjoyable half hour spent on a wet and very windy day
  16. very wild on north yorks, cumbrian border
  17. I also have an interest in RN history. About 10/15 years ago I put together a web site about the Hunt Class escort destroyer HMS Wensleydale. This is the area where I live. I located and interviewed a number of the crew. The story I put together can be found at HMS Wensleydale home page
  18. It should be quite easy to find your grandfathers service record. Next of kin can apply to have it sent to them. You should be then able to find out which ship he was on when it got sunk. I got my grandfathers service record quite easily. Takes a few months though.
  19. I also knew a bloke who buried the bodies at Belson with a bulldozer. I thought he was the only one. Things must have been that bad, that they needed a few to bury them all.
  20. Some very brave men mentioned already. I just hope the youth of today are taught about these men (and women). Part of the reason I posted this over the xmas period.
  21. As someone with quite an interest in Military history, I Just wondered how many of you out there have relations who fought during ww2. For starters: my grandfather drove an armoured D8 bulldozer, through France. (spent around a month in Caan as the allies got bogged down there) Went through Holland and into Germany. (Got shot through the shoulder during Rhine crossing at Wesel). Met up with the Russians at Lubeck. Later he was posted to Palestine and helped clean up the damage when The King David Hotel was bombed.
  22. I've been sharpening mine for about 7 years with my bench grinder and jig. Never had a rotor bearing in yet.
  23. shouldn't that be 'fruit loops'
  24. From Chisholm
  25. So, lets say you already have CS30/31 and 32, but have not refreshed in over 5 years. If you then do CS33, (and pass) you will automatically be classes as having being refreshed in 30/31/32?
