  1. Always call the harness, James (after, James Arness. Some of you older ones may remember him, gunsmoke and all). No other pet names for equipment, but we do call the 'sun', Sonia, for some reason.
  2. As big-ammer said, chip what you can and bung the rest in the customers green bin. I thought that's what the council provide them for.
  3. Iv'e taken a look, but the single axle one is virtually new and £1650. I won't be carrying too much weight, so prefer the single axle one. Good quality single axle tippers are hard to come by
  4. I'm thinking of getting a single axle Humbaur tipper (GVW 1500KG) Has anyone out these got any experience of these trailers.
  5. an eco fan? Is it another name for Swampy (see Jeremy Clarkson, in the sun today)
  6. No, not for the last 10 years. Like someone else said, have never being asked if I'm in the AA. I guess, 95% of private clients have never heard of the AA. I am CHAS registered, but only did that to satisfy a regular client.
  7. Spent an hour walking to the hotel where John Lennon was shot (persuaded by a mate). Wish I had'nt bothered, as nothing much to look at. Poor doorman must have been asked a thousand times that day, if this was the place where John Lennon was shot
  8. I hope UKIP get their way. The British government and not the EU should govern the influx of foreign nationals (and everything else) in this country.
  9. An eight inch chipper might suit you, but it would be too big and too heavy for a lot of people. I'd struggle to get over these Yorkshire hills with something like that on the back and a load of chips. I love my old entec. It's a 2001 machine and chips great all day, with very little trouble. No plans to change it.
  10. Brilliant news. Have a great relaxing xmas
  11. A legend on TV and in astronomy, who also served his country as an RAF navigator during WW2. RIP Patrick Moore
  12. One thing I can't stand is people being late. Better off without that job.
  13. Never could get into Yes, like you, found them too prog. Richie Blackmore and Ronnie James Dio, the classic Rainbow line-up, was into them quite a big way. Now Dio's gone so no chance of seeing him 'Live'. Found they went downhill when Dio left. Was also into UFO in a big way. Doctor, Doctor please !!!
  14. Rock and Roll, yes. Heavy metal, No. Have seen Maiden before (excellent) Have seen journey 3 times before. Don't be put off by 'don't stop believing' these guys can really rock. Neal Schoen is one hell of a guitarist. Last time I saw them about 2 years ago the sound was really bad though. Saw them with Styx and foreigner who were both excellent. Also recomment seeing Rush who are also in the UK this year.
  15. long live rock n roll. Whitesnake, Journey and Thunder on mini UK tour this year. Might be worth watching
  16. I'm sure your right Rob, but my LPA still quotes percentages. Hence, my reply
  17. Decide which side of the tree to start on. Cover as much as you can from your anchor point, and get your groundsman to confirm with you that all looks ok after pruning. Gradually, move around the tree, and keep asking your groundsman. I good groundsman should be able to help you a lot. I take a small pole with a hook up with me. I find it aids moving about the tree. Very simplified, the first thing to go for is any dead, dying, crossing/rubbing and diseased limbs. If it's a light problen, then go for other branches and try to leave an even-looking crown However, this is not always possible, for example, you may find that a main limb is diseased, do you take it out and spoil the shape of the tree, or do you leave a potential threat. The answer to this will depend on a number of factors. Experience, a chat with your groundsman and a chat with the client will help. As far as percentages go, if the spec says remove 20%, I would guess about 20%. Nobody would really know if you'd taken 17% or 23%. Don't get too hung-up on exact percentages The main advice I'd give you is not to take your rope down until you and the client have taken a look and chat together. Pain in the neck if you have to go back up. I'm sure others on this forum will have more tips for you
  18. If you've damaged the finger in the past it can cause pain in cold weather. I cut my little finger badly a while ago, and in cold frosty weather it still throbs like mad.
  19. burning Leylandii mixed with blue ceder at the moment. Great on the stove. The odd spit and bang, but who cares, it's a stove. Just as good in my stove as dried ash.
  20. I presume it's going for firewood. Unless your really desperate, I would avoid it. Its going to cost you £2000, plus Fuel and your time. Then you have to split the stuff and sell it (pine) If he offered to pay you to thin it, then thats a different matter. Just my opinion.
  21. You will need an accounting book. Your accountant will show you how to fill it in. Basically, you put all your receipts (work done) on one page and all your outgoings (expenses) on the other. Make your accountants work as easy as possible. Number all receipts so he can cross referance them in your accounting book.
  22. your accoutant will sort all that out
  23. Am looking to build a garage next year. Can do stonework myself, but can anyone recomment a supplier of random walling stone? North Yorks area
  24. If you don't take a shower, that itch just about the only pleasure you'll get tonight. If you take the shower, it may be your lucky night with her/him indoors.
