  1. First thing I've ever won in my life, so will accept any prize😀
  2. I'd guess at some type of Cotoneaster
  3. Your mention of Collosus reminded me of a RN veteran I met and interviewed. He served on HMS Bulldog when U-110 was captured. He showed me some German documents from the sub that he retrieved. For anyone who doesn't know, this was when the British captured a German Enigma machine.
  4. A topic I find interesting. By the way, with regard to helping other nations, the British gave a lot of aid to russia. Some of which came from Britain via America. 5000 tanks and 7000 aircraft including nearly 3000 Hurricanes and 1300 spitfires, together with radar sets, depth charges, bren gun carriers and millions of rounds of ammunition etc. Some British hurricane squadrons were even based in Murmansk, Russia for a while. Those on Artic convoys must have gone through hell, what with the extreme weather and not knowing if you will get torpedoed at any moment Obviously America had a huge impact on winning WW2. However, without The British Isles, they would have had nowhere in Europe in which to establish a foothold in Europe. Nowhere to station their troops, aircraft, ships etc. How could the allies have undertaken the invasion of Normandy or anywhere else in Europe?
  5. Rush, one of my favourite bands. Hopefully, they might tour UK next year with the new drummer. 🤞
  6. Nice to see a red squirrel at the bottom of your drive on a Sunday morning l.
  7. John smiths, Theakstons, carlsberg all 3.50 in my local club
  8. That's what I thought
  9. No, not seen it chris
  10. I was in Canada in 1995 watching the Ryder cup on American TV. Europe won, and what I remember was how terrible the American commentators were about Europe's win.
  11. Can the LPA insist on an arborists report for notification works in CA? I don't believe they can, but stand to be corrected. The old boy who I've worked for many times is in his 80s and had filled in the form himself. Went to the local council office (not planning portal) Anyhow, he's sunning himself in the Mediterranean and the LPA rang him saying the notification has been rejected as there was no arborists report! No mention that the trees weren't clearly identifiable etc. As far as I know, it's a case of TPO or no objection to the works. Thought please

    Spikes

I've had my old Buckinghams since 1992. Upgraded to Velcro uppers and new leather lower straps. Will see me out
  13. Was also in Circus World with John Wayne
  14. Slightly off topic, but after WW2, my grandfather (Royal Engineers) was posted to Palestine and with the aid of a bulldozer helped clear the bombed King David Hotel you mention above
  15. Thanks, I'll take a look
  16. An unopened jar of pickled onions. A top handle chainsaw, left in a hedge many years ago.
  17. Thanks Mark, I'll take a look
  18. As the title says, anyone know of a PTI course/trainer in Northern England. Had a look on the net and they all seem to be Midlands or southern based.
  19. Born in the summer of 69. So, I'm still young compared to Stubby! Play golf in summer. Metal detecting in winter. Like a bit of music. 70's and 80's rock and metal. Rush, Dio. But also a bit of Level 42, The Corrs, The Seekers. A bit mixed really. Research the history of the WW2 destroyer HMS Wensleydale. Currently fitting plywood for LVT floor. Worked with trees all my life, apart from a year making Wensleydale cheese! First golf round of the year tomorrow.
  20. Last Battle of Britain pilot dies. RIP John 'Paddy' Hemingway. Thanks for all you did for us
  21. The last picture with the bird box shows opposite buds. Certainly isn't lime on the hat one
  22. PSA just come back as normal. 55 now, so going to get one done every year. Every man over 50 is entitled to one each year as far as I know.
  23. December 21, 2008, and only 1200 posts. But, take a look most days.
  24. I think that's the way I'll be going
  25. I've old carpet down at the moment, and I'm going to replace with some sort of wood effect laminate flooring. But, want to hide the flooring edges. I know you can get thin edging strips. It's either that or I put skirting over flooring or remove a few mm off skirting whilst it's still on the wall and fit flooring under! If I take the old skirting off, I'll be replacing with new.
