  1. I'm with NFU and haved been for about 10 years. Iv'e a 100ft height restriction on my policy, but in's enough for me. It was 10m which I told them is no good. One year it came with an exclusion working near roads, which I told then was no good, It was removed. I will consider changing in the future as it seems that every year they put some thing in the policy that stresses my out. Have my chipper (trailer) insured with them for £100 pound a year which is a bargain. However, like Deans it's classified as a trailer. Agree, a bit dodgy.
  2. I'd be tearing my hair out if I had to use that thing all day. Stress levels would be through the roof just waiting for the brash to go through.
  3. God help us if we embrace the EU. The sooner we are given a referendum the better. The EU has had it's day, it's downhill all the way from here. I'm all for trade links with Europe, but the sooner we abandon this sinking ship, the better. My vote will be for UKIP
  4. I probably work between 30 and 40 hours per week (paid) but then there's the chipper, chainsaws and van etc to potter about with when time permits. I do enough to pay the bills and enough to save for a rainy day. I'm in my early 40's and to be honest, not that ambitious. I'm not saying I love the job, but I don't hate going to work either. Time seems to fly when I'm at work. However, theres more to life than work, especially when it's being raining most of the week. Anyhow, its friday afternoon and I'm going for the usual round of golf.
  5. I agree, the Titanic has had an awful lot of coverage recently. The second world war is littered with examples of huge navel loss of life. Some well known like the loss of HMS Hood (only 3 survivors). Most, not as well known, such as the loss of loss of HMS Charybdis and HMS Limbourne. Approx 500 men died around The Channel Islands in October 1943. Their sacrifice should never be forgotten.
  6. Also preferred to do neither but had to do CHAS for a client. Quite simple to fill in. Takes a few hours and you sent your details off to an assesser, who lets you know wether you have passed or not within a few days. Not sure about constructonline.
  7. Don't be put off from the L200. Iv'e a 2004 club cab and will consider another. Have done 60000 in it and the only real problem has been a couple of sets of heater plugs.
  8. Be interested to know where you got your information from. I could be wrong, but I thought all aga stoves were made at coalbrookedale in Shropshire. I stand to be corrected.
  9. Aga little wenlock. 5.7kw. Iv'e got one and my dads got one. Great little quality stove.
  10. Iv'e used Grazon 90 on docks and it works a treat. Never used it on bracken though. I hate using Grazon. It stinks to high heaven even with a face mask on. I really dislike using the stuff. Also, it's very expensive. It's supposed to be withdrawn from use in August 2012. I for one won't miss it.
  11. spray bracken every august for about 6 weeks. Usually spray with knapsack where the helecopter has sprayed the previous year. |What do you need to know? You can't buy asulux anymore, but have until end of the year to use up any remaining chemical (I think that's right) Most users stocked up before the ban came into force. NFU hope to get the ban changed. I think it was banned by europe, because of its use on spinich, and nothing to do with bracken. There is nothing elso that works as good as asulux for killing bracken. Not sure about docks.
  12. Had this recommendation been a few months ago, I might have watched it. Think I'll give it a miss now.
  13. I do a lot of spot spraying around young trees in forestry situations. I always use a dye for a number of reasons. Can I still add turf marker dye to my mixture. I really can't do without dye.
  14. avoid an hourly rate at all costs. Better a quote for the job or a day-rate. I find a day rate works well for me. The day rate is usually for two of us and the chipper. For smaller jobs I usually just provide a quote.
  15. That's actually a good point. The inboard clutch is a pain to fit, quite fiddly if I remember. But Iv'e never taken mine off the saw since I bought the winch about two years ago. Have had no problems using it on this system with an old 372xp. If you were constantly changing from saw to winch and back than an outboard clutch may be easier.
  16. What Is the greenaway like for spot spraying, as that is what it would be used for a lot?
  17. Been using knapsacks for ages now, and am thinking of going to CDA. Has anyone got experience of these, and which types are the best?
  18. make sure you get a saw with the clutch system like a 372xp. Think this is called an inboard clutch. An outboard clutch like 364xp will fit the lewis, but it needs to be attached by a small chain (comes with the winch). The 372xp type clutch is a lot simpler to fit than the 346xp type clutch.
  19. I have used the basic Willans T22 full body harness for years now (dont ask how many). I found it simple to use and comfortable. Anyhow, a couple of years ago, I replaced it with the T22 half harness. I'm, not that impressed with it. The thing won't stay on me whilst walking about and I also find the main attachment point is too far from my body when prussiking. Has anybody else experienced these problems or is it just me who's doing something wrong. I would not mind going for the new style willans T22 full body harness, but am worried that the main attachment point will be like the new style half harness. can anyone confirm. Is it exactly the same as the old one. I live in the middle of nowhere, so trying a load of harnesses on is not really an option. Any other harness purchase advice welcomed.
  20. old black dryed-up banana skins. piles of sawdust. and pens. I empty everything out, open all doors and windows, and set-to with the blower. Works a treat.
  21. It's ok to just use kerb straight after planting. don't worry about it. In winter it should cause no harm to young conifer trees. However, it's too late now to apply kerb. Best applied during frosty winter days. If you have a knapsack sprayer, use kerbflo rather than the granuals. If the weather is the slightest bit damp the pepperpot keeps blocking up and does your head in. Be warned: do not use where run-off might be a problem, as this chemical can kill grasses quite a way from the intended area, and does follow water runoff
  22. You don't dother putting any oil in the chainsaw. Is it a lewis winch you have got? If it's a lewis winch, you are better getting an old chainsaw and using that . I use a an old 372xp, as it would do my head in constantly chainging back for cutting use. I always keep the winch attached to the chainsaw. Also, invest in some dyneema rope, as the wire rope tends to kink, and can ba a pain. Also, make sure you always have oil in the lewis winch, and use something to lock the nuts from the side of the winch, as oil tends to leak out if you dont.
  23. Just starting Bill Bryson's, Made in Americe. Read his book, about his experiences in Australia, his description of test match cricket had me in tears of laughter.
