  1. Love the barbel; excellent detail
  2. That's what I thought but the Palace are saying Phil's in good spirits etc; if the old boy was fading I'd expect them not to be so upbeat. I hope they're not bullsh*tting and that he makes the ton and gets his card from the Queen
  3. I'd ask around to find a reputable builder; he'll know.
  4. This might be controversial to some but I'd welcome seeing more of that in future. Obviously we're never going to get the lack of contrails that we saw in Lockdown, but I'm sure a big reduction would be possible and very much needed. The less exotic holidays and business travel the better IMO, for various reasons. Until a fortnight ago we lived 20 mins drive from Gatwick: the silence last March was deafening and has barely changed since - wonderful. On the subject of contrails and as a slight aside... I may have the exact numbers wrong but I read that when all flying was banned over the States after 9/11 the average day/night temperature difference increased by 4C. That's massive in a such a short time.
  5. Ceanothus, perhaps thyrsiflorus - Californian Lilac. Very little care needed. You can trim back flowering growth by half after flowering but don't go hacking it; results from that are variable to say the least - vide the stubs. They need good drainage as they are semi desert plants. Be aware that they're not long lived; that could turn up its toes at any time for no apparent reason.

  9. Me neither. In 1984 it was the HQ of the Tank Regiment (still is?) The food was amazing; five choices for every course, piping hot and darned well cooked. Kept us happy for a whole week.
  10. A Neanderthal but effective way is to use a Makita mains powered impact wrench and stop tightening the moment the rattler kicks in. I went tighter than that once and paid the price by means of a shattered blade, the main crack starting at one of the bolts. Since going a bit easier on the tightening I've had no problems. A major benefit of the wrench is that it preserves the corners of the blade bolts as the force is applied only to the long sides of the bolt heads.
  11. Tree Surgeon Insurance | Forestry Contractors Insurance TREESURGEONINSURANCE.CO.UK We are a company that provide insurance for Tree Surgeons and Forestry Contractors including; Public Liability Insurance, Employers Liability Insurance..
  12. Not much help with the saw in bits but this may help later
  13. Thanks for the welcome @roboted We moved to East Hoathly on Friday and this is how you greet us! But it's left my conscience clear to be indoors unpacking so many boxes.
  14. That's fantastic Steve. Keep churning those out for the right money and you'll retire early!
  15. Potential problem with that process is that Police won't view CCTV as a fishing expedition but (hopefully) will do if they're told there's something positive on it. To determine that you're dependent on the CCTV manager playing ball and doing the necessary viewing for you. In this case the time can be pinned down quite tightly it seems so it would be a horrible abuse of the whole idea of CCTV if the poor victim can't persuade CCTV managers to look at their tapes as they won't need to spend much time on the task. I hope I'm right and that there is some footage somewhere. Petrol stations can be particularly good as the scum need somewhere to get their own fuel, Red Bull and fags.
  16. Christ you've taken a hit; really sorry to hear that. Sickening.
  17. Might sound a silly question but you're sure the roots in the drain belonged to the cherry plum and not the neighbour's bamboo? The roots are very different; the plum's obviously would be fine and irregular in shape, the bamboo's thicker, straighter and white/pale in colour.
  18. By 'logged up' do you include splitting? It'll dry fine if split and kept under a lid but if you leave it in lengths unsplit it'll probably rot to varying degrees
  19. When I saw the term river staircase I thought the river was going to be flowing down the stairs, not across, across, across. Not for me either; same for the floors
  20. The panels are high; you'd get a colossal amount of logs inside that cage that would nee a lot of propping. I like the line of pallets idea in principle though. How about something like well supported sheep netting along the long sides, the tops tied across the pallets at regular intervals? Have you planned a roof?
  21. Don't know about the Chinese stuff -personally I wouldn't touch it but that's personal preference - but Hyundai are South Korean. I've never heard anyone describe their products as rubbish.
  22. Unless things have changed my nearest green waste site do separate fence panels, they being more expensive to tip, and the non-chip green waste - grass, hedge cuttings etc - are landfilled. That was told me by the yard operator but it was a couple of years ago so could have changed. It's a mad world.
  23. Cat's piss!

    Jokes???

100,000 Covid deaths instead of No.10. It's more political satire than a joke.
  25. Fair enough; I hadn't seen those. I don't think I'd be looking to deeply into the detail given the condition of that piece though! I'm not adamant it's willow, it just seemed the obvious choice to me.
