    Jokes???

What does anyone make of the three individuals standing on the sand, the middle one being carried by the others it appears?
  2. They are the ultimate opportunists aren't they. I was rolling some large imperfect elm rings off my pickup yesterday morning and by the time I'd got to moving the next ring a robin was exploring the mush in the previous one.
  3. I didn't even see the stump! And I assumed the logs came from another of the pictured trees but now I don't think so. The logs are definitely Prunus but one reason I said 'cerasifera or similar' is that the form of the tree isn't right for cerasifera; the branches are too straight. Well spotted @Stere The logs are Prunus, the trees in the last pic probably Hornbeam.
  4. Very handy. I have three sizes of rack for this system - it's brilliant
  5. Plum - Cherry Plum probably; Prunus cerasifera (or similar)

    Jokes???

Cocteau Twins? White Stripes Sky Cream
  7. The first (small) stumps I ever ground was with a 9hp Dosko: they're good machines but even 9hp was too small for anything but the diddiest job. As said 13hp is a world away from that; sufficient for most stumps and will get into virtually any garden. Hire one for a day and see for yourself. The Rayco RG13 is the industry standard for want of a better term. I was very impressed with the Carlton machine but don't know if that's available for hire; I got one from Orange Plant when they served the South
  8. Every few years to have a longlasting effect; soil rapidly reverts to type. Forget it; work with what you have.
  9. I think mob grazing is part of what's termed regenerative agriculture, at least in the States where it seems to be taking off slowly: YouTube has many vids on the subject. It does make sense, especially the part where you don't destroy the soil structure every year with heavy fossil fuel-burning machines. Matty and Beau; it looks like you're ahead of the game by returning to ancient practice - talk about reinventing the wheel 😂 Sorry about that - you get a big thumb up from me for doing it

  13. Funny you should ask: I'm about to send off my second set but need to message them to suggest they invoice me for the first set! The reason I went to them was that on here a while ago their Arbtalk rep said 'can do those for £35'. I'm not holding them to that but I expect them to be significantly less than the £75 (inc VAT) I have been paying elsewhere.
  14. GA Groundcare recently sharpened my Jo Beau blades (also with reverse angle of course); the guy on the phone had never heard of Jo Beau but the blades came back fit for shaving with

  16. Not unique to trees. Saw a lot of it on some Ox Eye Daisies in Scotland some years back but they were only a few miles from a nuclear research establishment - Dounreay Daisies!
  17. Ha ha! Roger, you're the guy I alluded to on the other thread with the world map.
  18. Jeez you're fussy!
  19. I'm sure @gobbypunk will reply too but no, ash isn't the only wood that can display pink. It's quite common in small amounts. One that comes to mind that has it in spathes is Cotoneaster.

    Volunteering

@orang-utan you may want to look at http://www.landskills.co.uk/ They're in Dorking
  21. Works for me; how about you @Old Mill Tree Care? There's a guy listed at Headley.
  22. This is a very old thread but service seems to be as good as ever. I wanted a bar of a particular size that wasn't on the bar size calculator thingy; this was Thursday afternoon. Bar arrived this morning. So a big thumbs up to Rob and DPD. 👍
  23. If you're still looking in a few days Al message me; I'll knock on the door of someone round the corner who had a big ash butt carved recently. Jon

    Mot testing

If the advisories aren't anything that cause an MOT fail (they don't by definition of course) why worry if the vehicle passed? They advise. My wife's car had an advisory last week of a chipped windscreen. Now that's not a fail in itself but the 'advice' to sort it is good advice.
  25. @woodwizzard I'm glad you like your Yokohamas: I put a set on my Nav last July and I'm not sure they're much better than a standard road tyre. I hitched up my 2 ton tipper empty the other week on flat wet grass and had to use 4WD to get it moving! Perhaps I'm being unfair as I had BFGs previously and will go back to them at the next change I think.
