  1. Can anyone recommend please? Lewes/Uckfield/Heathfield area preferably. I only need a 13hp machine but I prefer them with sharpened teeth 🙂 Cheers, Jon

  3. Or reduced to a safe size and retained for habitat?
  4. And the site is the poorer for the absence of your wisdom Alec - come back! Jon
  5. I could get The Boss to try on her iPad later. I've used an Incognito window and blocked Arbtalk from knowing my location: a Tip Site search on the MK postcode produced no tip sites anywhere at all at all! And thanks for trying to help me; harder work than you thought eh?!
  6. Thanks for the tip; too technical for me I'm afraid - private window? Stop my browser knowing my location? Beyond my 'skills' I'm afraid 🥴
  7. What am I doing wrong?
  8. I did out of interest and the only tip sites showing at all are the ones near me in East Sussex. Problem @Steve Bullman ?
  9. I don't think pear either; the little plates of bark aren't rectangular enough. But we know the wood's heavy and hard; looking at the bark too I'd say hawthorn's a good shout
  10. Good on your dad; fear of officialdom is nearly as powerful as its actual powers. He was obviously not a man to be pushed about!
  11. The OP last visited Arbtalk in March 2018. Probs better off using the e-mail address
  12. Not everyone's opinion. I have some lumps felled 9 months ago and was advised by a trusted turner to keep it under a lid but ventilated for a year. A nationally well known turner who specialises in MP likes big pieces stood with the endgrain on damp carpet for a few months to initiate spalting
  13. Love the barbel; excellent detail
  14. That's what I thought but the Palace are saying Phil's in good spirits etc; if the old boy was fading I'd expect them not to be so upbeat. I hope they're not bullsh*tting and that he makes the ton and gets his card from the Queen
  15. I'd ask around to find a reputable builder; he'll know.
  16. This might be controversial to some but I'd welcome seeing more of that in future. Obviously we're never going to get the lack of contrails that we saw in Lockdown, but I'm sure a big reduction would be possible and very much needed. The less exotic holidays and business travel the better IMO, for various reasons. Until a fortnight ago we lived 20 mins drive from Gatwick: the silence last March was deafening and has barely changed since - wonderful. On the subject of contrails and as a slight aside... I may have the exact numbers wrong but I read that when all flying was banned over the States after 9/11 the average day/night temperature difference increased by 4C. That's massive in a such a short time.
  17. Ceanothus, perhaps thyrsiflorus - Californian Lilac. Very little care needed. You can trim back flowering growth by half after flowering but don't go hacking it; results from that are variable to say the least - vide the stubs. They need good drainage as they are semi desert plants. Be aware that they're not long lived; that could turn up its toes at any time for no apparent reason.

  21. Me neither. In 1984 it was the HQ of the Tank Regiment (still is?) The food was amazing; five choices for every course, piping hot and darned well cooked. Kept us happy for a whole week.
  22. A Neanderthal but effective way is to use a Makita mains powered impact wrench and stop tightening the moment the rattler kicks in. I went tighter than that once and paid the price by means of a shattered blade, the main crack starting at one of the bolts. Since going a bit easier on the tightening I've had no problems. A major benefit of the wrench is that it preserves the corners of the blade bolts as the force is applied only to the long sides of the bolt heads.
  23. Tree Surgeon Insurance | Forestry Contractors Insurance TREESURGEONINSURANCE.CO.UK We are a company that provide insurance for Tree Surgeons and Forestry Contractors including; Public Liability Insurance, Employers Liability Insurance..
  24. Not much help with the saw in bits but this may help later
  25. Thanks for the welcome @roboted We moved to East Hoathly on Friday and this is how you greet us! But it's left my conscience clear to be indoors unpacking so many boxes.
