    Jokes???

  3. Last heard a cuckoo near Horsham about 5 years ago. Saw my third swallow of the year yesterday on the Cuckmere flood plain at Alfriston! I was in shorts - doh - so sympathised with any feelings it had of '**** it's cold'
  4. What happened? We were led to expect a day of steady rain and at 11am it's all over; at noon the sun's almost out. Disappointed! 😬
  5. At last! Even in what seems to be the Rain Shadow of Sussex it's raining. Better get the rest of my ex Lawsons Cypress cleared up before the pickup and trailer sink into the lawn
  6. Bearings are fine on mine Khriss; the machine's 2.5 years old and gets light to moderate use. The blades are ok; they've probably done 5 or 6 hours work but from new they never grabbed material as they should. Operator error is always a possibility but I've had two Jo Beau M300s since 2012 and always changed blades myself; never had this before. Usually with new blades you have to be careful not to feed too much because the grab is so strong the machine will stall itself. Not now - far from it. It's true also that a cold starting machine with blades and drum bone dry take a few minutes to really get going; a bit of sap on them makes big difference to performance.
  7. Probs not and I'm a lifelong exponent. At 17/18 years I was playing competitive sport at least 6 days a week and living on 5 hours sleep.
  8. I'll be watching this with interest as I'm getting exactly the same with my Jo Beau; everything's set up right - brand new blades and a tight anvil gap but they just won't drag in. Chinese steel he asked cynically? I'll check the edges in a few minutes...
  9. A worthy cause Justice; have you put yourself in the Tip Sites directory top centre of the screen?
  10. Don't start. I could give the plates for my dad's Jag when I was born, the Bedford Utilabrake following that, the Fiats following that, my mum's 1966 Anglia and at least one of her Fiats! But the names of the guys who recently spent a week here re-wiring... I'd have to think a bit
  11. So, so familiar. So much so that last year and this I actually did online cognitive function tests Cognitive Function Test CFT.FOODFORTHEBRAIN.ORG No, can't remember my score but it was a long way above one causing concern. I've probably forgotten my password to find out too. But I did get an e-mail with dietary recommendations (there's a lengthy lifestyle questionnaire if you fancy it) I read somewhere (probably within that website) that 'if you think you have a memory problem you haven't'. I'll take it! I think it's easy to confuse ageing with failing; what we're experiencing is normal dammit.
  12. This apparently is a Stock Dove. How common are they? I've never taken much notice of Woodie vs feral vs Rock Dove etc before but Stock Dove...?

  14. You mean that the word 'deliberately' is missing from that web page's title 🤭
  15. An outsider perhaps - Broom?
  16. Don't tell anyone but actually I have shot a handful; pesky things. And no, I don't hold myself up as an arbiter of moral rectitude - I just don't like parrakeets 🙂

    Jokes???

    May he rust in piss
  18. Red Robin as a maiden tree is magnificent but won't be at all good if allowed to grow significantly before being cut in order to thicken; the lollipop regrowth goes in all directions and is hideous. Non-conifer fast growing evergreen... laurel (cherry or Portuguese or bay), privet, griselinia. personally I'd prefer privet from those; fast growing all right, regrowth is predictable, it will take a hammering, if cut at the right time flowers well and is very attractive to pollinators - actually looks good in flower too I reckon. Thinking a little more laterally some research should throw up some Rhododendron that would do the job (not ponticum though!) Is holly too slow growing/ I'm sure there are other possibilities Good luck
  19. Homo sapiens never ceases to disappoint

    Jokes???

    A slow burner VID-20210501-WA0014.mp4
  21. Parrakeets... not my favourite to put it mildly; they seem so out of place. There are some marshes just west of Redhill that host at least hundreds, perhaps thousands of them for roosting. Between around 5 and 6pm on a summer's evening flight after flight of 30 or so birds pass over the town on their way there from God knows where. I wouldn't want to be trying to sleep nearby.
  22. Really pleased with the number and variety of birds we've managed to attract in the first three months here. All five goldfinch were on the feeder a second before I snapped
  23. Great result; hat off to your friend 😊
  24. Go easy on the tongue oil for him - er, the tung oil 😂
  25. No. Fungal spores are everywhere, jes blowin' in the wind 😊
