  1. i had a few pairs of woodwalkers and liked them, im on airstreams now and id say they have the edge on comfort plus they are a cool red colour so when i stop at the shops on the way home for bread and milk people will know iam an "arborist" !
  2. is it a good idea to use to protect a newly planted beech hedge in a windy location?? or is it best to just let the trees get on with it? thanks carl
  3. me and my work mate have used one for a few years now and get on well with them. carl
  4. your basically saying for the groundsman to pull down on the drt tail, this does help the climber a bit, but its far from being pulled up into the tree, as for setting up a whole second floating anchor to facilitate it , i cant see it would be worth the hassle. a lot of climbers are using srt to ascend these day too.
  5. i guess it depends on how much its being reduced by?
  6. does that effect the roots of the remaining trees?
  7. they dont usually mind, plenty of booze and they will be fine!
  8. not really an arb tool but, for diy around the house a cross line laser level is a great bit of kit, i got one for €80 with a clamp for on door frames etc, i also use it with a small camera tripod i had. its been so handy for setting out tiles, leveling floors and tons of other stuff. definitely recommend for a renovation project.
  9. id say that intercoms are hands down the best purchase a tree outfit can buy, they make the day much easier, safer and more fun.
  10. have you asked the people you work with this question??
  11. so 95% of their repair bills where fuel related?? or iam i reading it wrong?
  12. have you tried the bulldog bone device?? i have one and use it on one rope type be that clean dirty wet or dry and it works fine, id say i have adjusted it twice in a few years, i dont really know how it compares to any other srt devices as i havent used any others. sap is a pita on any system. carl
  13. id agree with that, pretty much what we think of it at work, great by the chipper for the odd bit that wont go through as you dont need to have it ticking over the whole time. also good for dodgy ladder hedge scenarios or in a tangled mess of a hedge where you want a low kickback saw. i wouldnt class it as a logging up saw unless your upgrading from a bowsaw!

    sawpod

well i got one in the end, its really helped with less tangles from the saw lanyard, and is easy enough to get the saw in and out, my climbing lanyard sometimes gets hooked around it but still prefer it to my old set up, so glad i got one, thanks for the advice carl
  15. can you not go to an arb shop and try some on??? what suits one may not another.
  16. looks like a nice spot to work, what was the reason for the stump coming out?? a bit of work in it!
  17. do you not disscuss and fill out the risk assesment as a team?
  18. id hope one wouldnt be filling out too many near miss reports!!!!
  19. i always use the chinstrap in the tree, then clip it up inside the lid when on the ground. id feel a bit silly if it fell off in the tree when i needed it or if it needed replacing due to a fall from a tree.
  20. thanks for the replies, il check out the "fly" rope. do you prefer the xstatic over the cougar blue?? who makes the xstatic? thanks carl
  21. iam thinking about getting a new main rope, i am using the non ce cougar blue at the moment and iam happy enough with it. i climb a mix of srt on the mechanical bulldog bone device and drt on a lock jack sport. i find the profile of the cougar goes a bit rectangular in the bulldog bone which is slightly annoying so a rope which didnt do this would be a plus. it must be brightly coloured and have a splice. any suggestions thanks carl
  22. i have never used one but from what i have read on the net i dont think it gets very good reviews.
  23. id say a second hand one from a known chipper brand such as greenmech would be a much better bet than a new Chinese import model. repairs, maintenance and back up is going to be a lot easier too.
  24. the pulley ratios have been changed on the new low hp jensen machines so not so easy to boost it back up again and some machines have a smaller kubota engines, not just a detuned old 35hp engine. i would have thought a big appeal in a brand new chipper is the warranty, so to go and void that seems like a waste of money.
  25. so it works on back leaning trees?? what keeps the saw from being jammed with the weight of the lean? a wedge and hammer? so you need a wedge , hammer , big scaff bar and a ratchet strap?? seems a bit gear intensive for small trees. have you seen those felling poles that push the trees over, cant rember there proper name, expensive tho. id say its hard to beat a rope for versatility, 1 man pull up 30ton tracked machine and everything inbetween. good to try new things mind. carl
