  1. i think small battery saws are great for prunning, superlight, quiet, dont need to leave them running or keep starting them, much smaller on the harness. obviously if you start making bigger cuts they slow up, although you can get bigger battery tophandles but ive not really tried these but i guess the weight creeps up too. carl
  2. we ran them for a few years, had to replace a few chainbrake bits and antivibes fairly often, nice light saw, easy to start, we now have husky 550 xp and much prefer it to be honest, better vibe bit revier ( prob not a word). and feels more ergonomic. if i had a choice id go with a husky 550, but still rate the 501. i also thought the 261 was a great performer till it broke!! carl
  3. looks like a busy friday afternoon.
  4. was it an insurance job before or after you felled it!!!!!!! big fell tho , fair play.
  5. how does it compare to the bulldog bone? ( am i right in thinking you had one of these?) carl.
  6. try fr jones.
  7. the husky 550 is a great saw, i prefer it to the echo 501. we have not had any problems with husky auto tune on either the 550 or 560.
  8. i have a rechargable one by nightsearcher, 550 lumens on max so pretty bright, doesent last so long on high settings, i have used it almost every night for a year or so, happy enough with it.
  9. probably not going brand new, guess you dont have any stress box issues with that engine!
  10. cool thanks, does this guy have a website? either way ill pass the numbers on to my boss, thanks.
  11. this model seems to come with a 37hp engine and i think the 530 is a 35hp, it doesnt seem much bigger for the jump up in chipping capacity also the 8" forst have a 45hp engine in?? is the 37hp in the 540 underpowered?? also which used chipper dealers in the uk do people recomend?? thanks carl
  12. anchoring into nearby trees can really help if they are suitable, srt can make this easier too.
  13. every tree is different as are its surroundings, therefore very hard for anyone to advise you on what to do. putting a felling cut in higher up the trunk is generally harder to do accurately.
  14. it is if you stick the saw straight back into what you hit 1st time round!!
  15. have you tried replacing the fuel solinoid on the 201tc? ours was stalling and running rough and this fixed it
  16. on the three 501,s we use all of them have had numerous parts replaced on the brake mechanisms, obviously i cant comment on anyone elses saws, maybe we were unlucky or use the brake too much!
  17. id go with a husky 550xp, feels nicer and less vibes than the echo 501 and a bit more poke too, the echos are good and reliable although the brake mechanisim seems a weak point on them. we have ran the echos for a few years but now we always grab the new husky 550 1st. we had a stihl 261 great, till the crank bearing went within a year, to costly to repair.
  18. super quick, have to be careful on smaller trees that the digger driver doesent put too much force on before you make your back cut. most digger drivers seem steady and safe to work with.
  19. a two person weight test before asecending may well of avoided this, hope his back heals up ok.
  20. thanks for all the replies, we found out that it did still creep when switched off, very slowly as in hard to tell if its moving at all. would one of the drive brakes not hold it? could they both be worn? can you service the drive motor brakes? its not too bad at the moment but i guess it will only get worse with time, so hope to get it fixed before we find it wedged against the clients range rover!! thanks again carl
  21. we have a tracked jensen 530 chipper, we were using it on a steepish tarmac drive and noticed it had crept forwards right up against the landrover, it also crept the other way when we tried it, very slowly. any ideas, iam guessing leaking valve or something ? thanks carl
  22. would love a play with that!!! would the crane lift much ?
  23. come on dont be coy, we,ve read your posts lately , " shopping for butter without a mask , maybe start a revolution!!!" oz. or grams you tell us??
  24. the best of the best!!!
  25. its kinda ironic all these arborists whinging over wearing a mask, everyday arb gear worn to improve safety is not exactly high comfort is it (despite the cool write up on the website!) i wasnt that keen on the whole mask wearing thing but an unseen event mean i had to travel on an airplane and spend time in a hospital, sure it wasnt so comfy but totally do able. masks might not be 100% effective all the time but better than nothing( seatbelts arnt either but you still always put one on! )
