  1. those images look interesting, recon a sling and krab round the redirect branch would work better for friction and also you wouldnt have to put the whole of your rope round the branch. might see if it works with the bulldog bone and just a simple prussic for the second anchor drt bit. thanks for the share.
  2. i ve been thinking that in order to appease the hse , then one easy enough step to take that probably wouldnt effect ones climbing too much would be, a second back up anchor point, in the form of a split tail and ring or somthing similar tied off to a different stem or lower down. not sure how this could be retrivable but iam sure someone would figure it out. if this became best practice then it could help their concerns over anchor point failure. carl
  3. great if youve got a bucket truck, massive chipper and machine to feed it, if its you and a mate and a 6" chipper then not so brilliant, will i try this?? er no i wish to remain friends with my work mates
  4. sounds like we should have called it "static rope technique" from the start!! the "single" bit doesnt seem to have done us any favours
  5. cool thanks for the reply, il be watching this thread with interest.
  6. who has worked out this increased risk using srwp and how, also i dont really understand why you would try and document that your work method creates a higher risk. to me this rather suggests that the people making these decisions dont get the full picture.
  7. yes it can. but unlike drt were you would try and isolate a single fork so the rope runs better, in srt the rope often runs over the fork and down the back of the tree so if the top branch did fail the rope would be caught by the branch below. it is always a good idea to weight test an anchor with a second bod
  8. Please elaborate on Cannobase anchor for higher TIPs i recon he means when your desired high anchor point is a bit weak for some reason but is in the best place then, run the rope through that fork or sling then back down to something more substantial, bearing in mind you have created a 2;1 force in the dodgy anchor point! of course he might mean something else entirly in which case ignore me
  9. cool thanks, i did see a big srt manual in a local arb shop but didnt get time to look at it, although i feel srt has been developed by climbers for climbers on the street so,s to speak, which i like and that the official side of things is only just catching up. still im sure the course would be interesting, i doubt there is one local to me though.
  10. 300 quid from a farmer for that, id say not.....:)
  11. your right steve i havent really tried it save for the odd time for a particular secnario, i may well try it if we have a day rate job! i love my srt set up at the moment and personally consider it a great leap forward over my double rope system and really cant see using 2 ropes as any kind of forward progression. does the rope industry have a much better safety record over arb in terms of falls from height? do any other countries enforce this practice? carl
  12. not sure if puff is known for its benefits to mental health!!! does sound nice mind
  13. whats a psp?
  14. so whats the deal with SRWP then? is that allowed or not or only srt for acsess???
  15. i cant see how you think it wont make much difference to climbing with one mainline!!! tying to controll two friction hitches or devices on a descent is going to be tricky, plus no hands left for guiding oneself. always suspected the whole BREXIT thing was a smoke screen...... its all starting to make sense now! fair enough if you think it wont affect you but for me i think this is a bloody massive problem.
  16. some good points, is it even really possible to climb properly with two ropes!!!! im all for making things safer but when its not practicle or its over the top then people switch off and turn their back on it all and thats not great either.
  17. i did look at that sort of board the price put me off a bit but maybe its the best option. the house is plodding on, got one bedroom ceiling plasterboarded and plastered and the other bed room ol.d ceiling ripped out, just waiting on some new lighting and wiring to be put in. slow going on my own but enjoying it and feeling lucky to be in the position to be doing it if you know what i mean. summer outside/ in the mobile was lovely, just need to get into winter mode now! thanks carl
  18. climbing around a tree with two 45m ropes anchored in!!! thats going to be hard, frustrating , confusing and probably more dangerous. if its anchor point failure thats the problem?, then switch to srwp and insist on at least 2 top tie points, that way a bomb proof anchor is achived and the climber can still work the tree easly and use the lanyard whilst cutting. carl
  19. wondering if anyone has put a small stove in a mobile home?? not sure the best thing to put around it on the walls in terms a heat shield. my ideas of not needing one were a bit out as we had a elec rad on in august! thanks carl
  20. cool thanks for the detailed reply, good to know its meant to be like that, its only slightly annoying when reversing a trailer. thanks again. carl
  21. id like to see councils and planners promote small rural plots sub half acre for small single story timber framed homes that are modest in there design and cost , and banks that would be willing to lend on these sort of projects. i get bored of all these million square foot " ECO" mansions!! a mansion is not eco in my book no matter how many solar panel are on the roof. high house prices tend to push up rental prices too, so then you cant save for a deposit.
  22. its a chemical not aftershave!!, just dont sniff at it or better still dont use it
  23. felt our coil today and it was too hot to touch, in fact everything around that area was pretty hot hyd pipes etc ( on a 530 not 540 mind). we had a coil melt and start smoking on a machine!
  24. i think the 201tcm is a good allround tophandle, haven't used the husky.
  25. i find the real problem isnt the narrow roads, its peoples in ability to reverse that causes the problems!!
