  1. sounds more like the bar is bent, i have found the when the groove in the bar is worn the bar still works but the side to side play means the chain wobbles too much resulting in a slow cut, either way if a new bar and same old chain fixes the problem, then thats the way to go, sugi ones are good.
  2. no i havent but may try cant see it working tho. husky bar voice???? too busy wondering where all the paint has gone after 5min use???
  3. what part of your cheap bars is wearing out? the sugi bars really seem to last, plus when talking about them you can use a stupid Japanese kung fu voice, where as stihl rolomatic you cant, its a no brainer really
  4. cant see whats wrong with using something to help you do a job?? my haynes manuals have saved me a fortune over the years.
  5. would that not tip the chipper up if it wasnt hitched up?
  6. i would of thought a much bigger ( more than 1t.) winch mounted on the vehicle which tows the chipper would be a better bet. winching trees along the ground with a low anchor point seems to need a lot of pull, i wouldnt of thought a 1ton winch would shift much of a tree.
  7. i think both sugihara and tsumura bars are well regarded and long lasting.
  8. flash git!! feeling a bit hard done by now with my one lonely lid.
  9. i use msa sordins( think there called that) on my vertex vent and they are fine.
  10. whats the difference between the two lids then?
  11. does anyone have two helmets then? one for up and one for down, i would not of thought so. id say side impact protection is a good idea on the ground too, not just climbing.
  12. id be thinking start out using drt as i think its a lot simpler to start off with, then quick enough give them a taste of srt. one major draw back with srt is it usually requires an anchor to be installed with a throw line, and beginners arnt that great with a throwline , plus advancing an anchor from a base tie isnt the easiest. it would be intresting to hear if anyone has learnt srt first. carl
  13. sounds familiar! i think due to their high price people often go for an older one which may be ok but i think there is a danger of it being near the end of its usefull life which can lead to big bills on a regular basis. carl
  14. id say that if your considering getting a mog ,make sure you really need their heavy duty capacity in moving logs and chip, as running costs can be high. also check out if you have a siutable local mechanic with a knowledge of these type of vehicles. also very slow getting from job to job over longer distances. carl.
  15. this is a 346 we are talking about here!!!! wouldnt do any of the above with mine.
  16. often wondered this myself, i just assumed its where the original leader had died and they pruned back to live wood and let the shoot continue on up.
  17. what cut would work well when you have a stem with a fence attatched so you have to high fell and dont want the butt to roll or drop back and trash the fence. any photos would be good. i used a humbolt in the above situation and it worked fine but wondered if there were any variations etc which would of helped. thanks carl
  18. my rule of thumb is quality oil at 50 :1 and dont mess with the tuning screws apart from the idle occasionally. carl
  19. mine is in the house in a kit bag or in front of the fire if its wet, not that family friendly but would be worried about rats in the shed.
  20. our 201tcm started cutting out dead when tilted, had a look and it was a fractured wire in the front of the trigger handle Assembly , it was a bit awkward to get to and pull some slack but i managed to solder it back together. the way in which it cut out was the give away to me , like turning it off...!
  21. ive always found honey bros great to deal with and i live abroad too. never used northern arb, but wont be rushing to after this thread! carl
  22. the op says they are looking to replace a 201 tophandle, we have a stihl 160 batt at work and it wouldnt replace the 201, not even close. its great for light prunning but anything a bit chunky and its a slow boat to china., heard the husky is a bit more pokey but i havent actually used one.
  23. might try the teffelburger Trex as it seems similar and more available, that is if i ever actualy get round to it. thanks for the help carl
  24. id say this would be particularly useful when the person carrying out the qoutation is different to the work. i find the spec " prune back" one of the worst for client misinterpretation/manipulation!! i recon it good be good for larger outfits.
  25. setting up a good safety system, cones tape etc make sure you have an A1 groundie who is on the case and has eyes in the back of their head, maintain good communication with the groundie, intergrated comm sets are brilliant for road side jobs. a real person stoping people is worth a whole vans worth of cones and signs! carl
