  1. an over priced sandwich bunged under a grill???
  2. i hope this is all overdramatised for our entertainment and that your climbing is actually a lot safer than you make out!
  3. thanks for taking the time to write that in depth review. we have got some echo 501sx at work, a couple of years old and have been pretty good. how does the 390 compare with the stihl 241? had a quick go on one and seemed nice, super light. there seems to be a few dealers round here in ireland pushing the echo brand which has made spares a bit quicker to get hold of which good.
  4. id say the first job is to remove all of the ivy and look at that twin stem union, it looks pretty tight. a thin and dead wood will help reduce the windsail without ruining the overall appearance of the tree. it could be an idea to get another onsite opinion from a good source, as thats a large tree near a lot of targets. is it a scots pine? not so sure. carl
  5. the art lockjack has different cams for different diameter rope and is mid line mountable.
  6. check what categories your driver has on their licence, may narrow it down for you.
  7. seen a few mega redwoods round the limousan region of france, is that near you?
  8. would the outcome for the tree in question have been the same if the op had gone down the correct paperwork route?? iam not that familiar with uk tree law. thanks carl
  9. nice job, bit of a daft place to plant a euc imo
  10. ive only climbed to odd small dead one but found the wood to be very strong.
  11. looks great but i thought people who got the prototype wernt that impressed with it overall, i could be wrong though? never tried one myself.
  12. hi thanks for the reply, im pretty sure its down to ring size so iam going to get a few different sizes and have a play, thats the trouble with all these vids they never show you it jamming or getting it stuck! my effort the other day would of made a good fail. on the plus side i did use a couple of other shultz effect tips to good effect. thanks carl.
  13. finally got round to buying the shultz effect, a serious amount of info, its going to take a while to go through it all, although i think some of it may be more elaborate than i need but iam sure ill start using some of the simpler ideas. thanks for the recommendation carl
  14. have you tried this technique? i tried it (once so far) and i couldnt get it to pull back down to me for love nor money! i think maybe the ring was too large a diameter and the krab seemed to lock the rope.
  15. looks nice, ive got a tree runner 500 which is very similar and works well bit cheaper too.
  16. reg is pretty bloody good, so you never know!
  17. i think a common way round that prob is to have two systems tied under the cut, one for normal snatching with capstan then attatch to the diagonal speedline, this takes to force out of the rope on the angle and also allows for a controled speedling of pieces, i ve never really tried it though. another option is to run the speedline through a block under the cut and then instead of running verticle to the base of the tree you take it out the back to the base of a neighboring tree, this would take out the 2:1 effect of tieing it to the base below. ive not done much zipping of heavy timber, so could be talking crap! i tend to use speedlines for branches. plenty of vids on youtube. carl
  18. id would avoid that saw! we had one with the same issues, ended up putting in new needle bearings in every 5 min and even then the crank had to be replaced.
  19. the echo 501sx is a good saw if you prefer something without modern autotune, that said we have a few autotune saws at work and havent had many problems with them really.
  20. yes thats an issue too.
  21. im not sure whether your meant to hang solely off an asscender , he could of just put his lanyard around the branch instead , plus hanging off your lanyard like that is really uncomfortable, another solution would be a sling and crab redirect at the fork rather than through it, so you come up along side the limb, lanyard in slacked your main line and unclip the redirect without having to detach your main climbing system. i liked the look of dan curtis redirect system, although it did look a bit of a faf to retrieve.
  22. yes it does seem to be getting better.
  23. do you need a hand assecender with a knee acssender ? never tried one , happy enough to let the legs do the work. i used a petzl one which was fine, although the little kong one looks good.
  24. i recently got a zubat and i went for the new large tooth version, it seems a lot more effort and not as smooth in the cut, probably faster on very soft wood but as an all round saw im not so sure, ive kind of got used to it now so i was wondering if any one else has tried one. carl
  25. im only messin, you bought it so may as well get the most from it, absolutely nothing wrong with trying to save your body.
