  1. yes it took it apart and the cog is chewed, seems to that it would be better if the worm gear was made of a softer material and would fail in the event of a jam in the pump, thanks for your reply carl.
  2. the oil pump has gone on mine, doesnt like to sit unused with veg oil in it! just wondering where to get one at a reasonable cost, had a quick google and they seemed a bit pricey !, maybe thats just what they cost. thanks carl
  3. yes but its not a very professional way to resolve the issue!!!
  4. i always clip the chinstrap up on the inside when iam on the ground, so a whistle couldnt go there plus iam not sure about it dangling around, looks annoying, although i have seen quiet a few people with them there.
  5. i found that the little holes on the back of the vertex vent lid are perfect for storing these safety whistles in, they just push in and dont seem to fall out, the only downside is they arent the loudest. widely available, cheap and handy if you cant whistle.
  6. thanks for the input, i got a CT assecnder and made one up, works great seems a lot smoother than a foot loop on a hand asscender.
  7. chipping up big piles of shit some gardener has "stacked"! all day long is one of my least favorite days , an equal dose of boredom and grunt
  8. thanks for the thread link... turns out im in the thread asking the same questions! duh.
  9. cool thanks for the replies and photos , i think im just going to make a basic one for now although the velox does look like a clever bit of kit. i think iam going to get a petzl croll as the CT ones arnt so easy to get, i assume the croll will work fine? looking forward to trying this with the bulldog bone, then a quick watch of the lawrence shultz vids and ill be an amazing climber! or just same ol me with more gear on my harness.. oh well gotta try.
  10. christ!!!! they all seemed strangely calm about it.
  11. looking to make up a knee assecnder and wondering which assecnder device people are using to good effect.?? ive just knocked together a 5min job out of an old borrowed clogger and bit of elastic and it worked well considering, ive always used a foot loop and hand assecnder but i think having both hands free will have some advantages. thanks carl
  12. looks like your gonna have to go carbon.......how bad
  13. im only messin..... iam sure in twenty years time the young uns will be laughing and rolling their eyes at " zig zags" and srt " rope wrenchs" whilst flying up and down the tree on a motorized assecnder/dessecender that fits in their hand and is powered by a remote battery pack in their pocket..
  14. i would say its probably say its down to conditioning and technique but i would definitely look into a more efficient climbing system such as a VT knot and pulley and also a foot assecnder, nothing wrong with making life easier, despite what all the old timers say!! ( with their buggered up bodies!!! ;). plenty of info on here and youtube but probably better to be shown in person if possible. carl
  15. thanks for all the replies, i checked out a couple of the "climbing arborist" vid, thought they where clear a nice and easy to understand, il also check out lawrence shultz ive heard good things about his vids, watched the odd rigging one, some pretty impresive sized bits in tight spots!! although i always wonder what the hell they do with it on the ground, still they often run big chippers and skidsteers in the states. thanks again for the links, iam on the verge of getting a bulldog bone so figured i need to pep up my climbing to justify the purchase. carl
  16. as per title really ,after some informative vids on different techniques and ways to approach the working of the tree to maximize the benifits of srt. thanks carl
  17. i like the vertex vent, a friend bought the allveo but i thought it looked hotter as there was no air gaps on the crown of your head plus you cant clip the chinstrap up inside out of the way like you can on the vertex.
  18. the fuel solenoid was easy enough to replace, would need an air compressor and a clean space, it was a bit fiddly and id recomend taking a photo of which way round the electric plug goes on. if mine starts to run 100% then id say easy job, if it continues to play up then id say be carefull although anything is better than a climbing saw that keeps stalling imo!!!
  19. i did have a look at the manual and it said do 5 even cuts etc so i will try that, prior to that i had buried it into a pile of chunky timber and it seemed ok so i think ill take my time and see how runs before poking around further. thanks for your help. carl
  20. hi just fitted the new solinoid which seems to have cured the idle and stalling problems but i now have a slight stutter under acceleration similar to running out of fuel. iam guessing i have done somthing whilst fitting the part any ideas what?? thanks carl
  21. we have one at work and its a lovely user friendly saw for light prunning but anything bigger and it feels like a slow boat to china! also think they should of put a little on/off rocker switch on the handle. carl

    Stihl 201TC

could be a leaking breather valve under the air filter housing.
  23. sorry cant answer your rope question but do you wear gloves whilst climbing? i use those ultra thin flexi black ones mechanics and trye fitters use, find they really help when assending hand over hand on srt as can be tough on the hands. carl
  24. i use a silky zubat 330mm and works great no problems with the scabard
