  1. is the vid still around anywhere?
  2. er no! from what i remember in the video the top of that tree was all over the place in the wind and i think that the wind was side on to the direction of the fell thus rendering the pull line useless against the wind. so with the species, wind and targets i think a fell was a risky option imo ( im no master feller btw) carl
  3. in my mind the only mistake that was made was to undertake a fell on that tree, all the legal stuff about training, supervision, certification etc is just how the prosecution system works. id say most days and jobs there is something not being done by the book no matter how small its only when the poo hits the fan does come to light.
  4. one thing to consider is how competent are you at fixing things or do you have someone reliable and quick to do repairs. id say if your using the machine yourself a lot of problems can start to show up before the machine becomes unusable thus giving one time to source parts. also if your not putting loads of hours on your machine then maybe downtime is not such a crucial factor. carl
  5. none CE cougar blue is my rope for mainly drt and a bit of srt, i like it no complaints. carl.
  6. cant beat srt for access really quick and fairly easy, what srt system are you using to ascend??
  7. thanks for the replies, my boss has a old set of shoulder straps so i may try those out then maybe get the tree austria ones as they look well made, of course ill probably just forget all about this until i am next up a tree with the 66 and a load of rigging gear! thanks carl
  8. looks like a lot of work to be doing for nothing! shame to loose work in that way too
  9. it is for a treemotion harness which i find stays put fairly well compared with my old treeflex which seemed to need tightening every 5min! just thought the shoulder straps could make it all a bit more ergonimic and better on the body. thanks for replies
  10. was thinking i could add a whistle
  11. do many people use them?? everyday or just when using a big saw or loads of hardware. thanks carl
  12. very very sad news to read about, cant help wondering if putting in a gob whilst tied to the top of the stem is a good idea!??, heard of a few accidents and near misses this way. rip. carl
  13. ancient specimens will have started there early life as regular trees and maybe through good fortune or good tree care became specimens. i cant really see how you can call this article "pointless blather" agreed it poses more questions than it answers, but lets not forget that flush cutting, tar paint for wounds and cement to fill cavitys were all the rage at some point till some one started thinking about it. carl
  14. and that was probably just trying to untangle it before taking a shot!
  15. just googled this saw and it seems to already be available to buy in europe?? or iam i looking at an older version or something?. carl
  16. id say i throughly check mine once a month ish depending on how much i use it or job type, should really do it more regularly though.
  17. just wondering how often people thoroughly inspected there kits ie clean and lube krabs, undo friction hitches ,and look at harness stiching etc. thanks carl
  18. i think to answer the question they should turn up to the job with what they have been asked to bring.
  19. iam i right in thinking that using your bucket truck to rig with is a really stupid thing to do??!!! i know when using a hi ab to lift lumps off any little tab or dodgy step cut can exert a lot of force on the machine. tricky job though without a proper crane.
  20. carlos

    MS261 v2

and new crankshafts and new saws!! that and loosing business to other saw manufactures
  21. thats a bit scary
  22. what do you think about the size of some of those cuts? looks quiet chunky in terms of future decay? just asking as i have a heavy beech reduction coming up. thanks carl.
  23. really nice saw imo
  24. yes i have been pleased with my pair, very light and comfy, probably going to try the new pro version in blue which is great as ive wanted a pair that will match my rope for ages!
  25. thanks ill give that a try i have the silky just behind the side d but seems to often get tangled in the saw lanyard. mark, my friend has gone from a sequioa to a courant koala, he seems happy enough with it.
