  1. same here with pantin, i put that on first then the spikes
  2. i thought it would be way too late, but i saw people planting sitka spruce today.
  3. is it my fancy or do you seem to have a lot of chipper problems??
  4. anyone still planting bareroot whips for forestry now??!
  5. that sounds like a cool thing to be involved in. the guys in the photo look suspiciously like they are trying to work out how to repair the balcony they have just trashed !!!
  6. what gloves are people using on this rope? i like it as it runs well but iam finding the downside is its hard to grip even with my normal gloves, so this is making ascents a bit harder. thanks carl
  7. its ordered from a member on here " surveyor", just pm him.
  8. reducing the end weight of the stem with the split in it would surely help it a bit.
  9. more likely just hit his head trying to get in!
  10. and would it tow a chipper whilst loaded? i agree with all your points about the 130 defender, its like driving about in an old small metal shed!!! but for our needs it works well, being rural we need 4x4 access but dont tend to remove a lot of chip as we use a tracked chipper.
  11. does your hilux take more chip or about the same?
  12. i find its swings n roundabouts, some days on the ground is the tough part, and climbing is the easy bit other days its the reverse, we are a small team so we mix it up to suit ourselves. are most groundies labour only? to me a groundie runs everything thats not in the tree, so hardly labour only. ( ive not worked with many crews so i could be wrong.
  13. i couldnt see a polesaw on the ground being very ergonomic or quick for cutting saplings even if you managed to bend the shaft to the desired angle!!!(havent tried it mind)
  14. 70mph in a defender! id say a wine from the gearbox would be the least of my worries, i know you can get white finger from machine vibration, wonder what you get from driving a defender?? i guess the roads are smoother in the uk though.
  15. three people have answered your original question.
  16. all iam saying is we have a msa 220 at work on a 12"bar and its very under powered, so if your thinking to put a 18" bar on it and use it in place of say a husky 550 you will be very disappointed, its a handy saw in certain situations but a million miles from a small petrol ground saw, just my experience with it , maybe others have got more out of it.
  17. are you using a battery saw due to noise issues?
  18. 20" bar!! a bit optimistic id say, it barely pulls a 12" bar.
  19. i recently did all the plumbing on our renovation and all the sizes seemed very mixed up, the plastic came in both metric and imperial but the copper only came in imperial, it wrecked my head on a good few occasions!!!
  20. not sure what rope your on but i got some xstatic after some recommendations from people here and it runs really well with the device. carl
  21. this is exactly what i am after, i guess ill have to get a pinto, i have a smaller pulley but im pretty sure there isnt the room for the butterfly and working leg in the pulley. paddy: on removals i normally untie the base tie and retie as cannopy anchor usally a simple running bowline, but in this scenario i was after something midline attachable so i could keep the base tie. i realize i could just work off my base tie but i just feel uneasy about it to be honest plus there is always the time you get up to your throwline shot and realize its not quiet as decent as you thought! does the pinto have to be cinched up tight under the limb or can you keep the base tie leg tight and have the pinto in midair so,s to speak?? thanks for replies carl
  22. i dont tend to work from a base tie that much but iam after ideas on a good way of backing up a base tie with a removable (from the ground) cannopy tie. so basicly throwline a high anchor base tie it, ascend then install some form of canopy tie , then work the tree. descend and remove from the ground. i did try my own version but the retrival bit didnt go so well!!! thanks carl
  23. we use fodsport ms1- pro, its ok but we have had problems with the cables loosening and having a poor connection. we put them in the ear defender, it doesnt effect the performance of the ear defender. are the senas bomb proof and loads better? any other brands reliable? i wouldnt say our ones were perfect but they wernt mad money either. i wouldnt want to work without some form of comm, so handy. carl.
  24. wrong link in there id say?
  25. wouldnt of thought so but im not that familiar with cedars
