  1. thats a shame about the switch as they sounded good. we have a new stihl battery pole saw and that has a weird double dead mans but no on off switch, my mate managed to activate the chain whilst pulling in out of some branches by the head end!!!
  2. i did this a long time ago on a big camper van and used a company called svtech, it was a easy enough process .
  3. well i made it with about 5min to spare!! i got a car with a satnav, made it pretty easy. hats off to people who drive that way regularly, crazy busy ,i probably saw more cars yesterday than i have in the last 5 years here in ireland. anyway thanks to all those who posted, nice one. carl
  4. cool thanks guys, the m25 looked best but every time i said m25 to someone they just groaned so i just wanted to check there was no viable alternative, going to be busy as iam hoping to leave the airport just after nine. thanks again carl
  5. sorry a bit of a random question, i have to get from heathrow airport to guilford on friday morning just wondering peoples thoughts on the best route, i dont have a satnav, so a bit oldskool. thanks carl
  6. ive got a pair of these, i just dont like them at all the fit is like a pair of clown boots, hard to put on ,then hard to lace up properly and still feel like they are about to fall off! ive not really noticed and benefit in the tree either. they dont seem to be 100% waterproof either. then when you get home you have to sit on the floor like a toddler and try and wrestle the dam things off.
  7. a hot contender for most recalls on an arb product!!
  8. ive been climbing on the rope runner pro for a while, here are my thoughts. it seems to be well made although a lot lighter construction than the bulldog and i do wonder how well it will wear in time. in use it self tends well and the pulley is a good addition, the release action is really nice and smooth now i have it dialed in, but its also very easy to release a load of slack should you need it, i use it on xstatic rope. i find the small ring for the tending clip a bit if a pain compared to the larger thimble i have on the bulldog. so overall i really like it to use, i havent had any problems with the topbird spring but its not that old yet either.
  9. it depends on what you are trying to do?? you will need more than a harness and this kit to work in the tree safely

    550XP Mk2

we use them at work with a 15"bar, they do everything felling ,snedding, hedging , in the tree ,by the chipper left running , stopped , started , all with no problems, good allround small saw imo.
  11. did you say you changed the bar? could the oil holes on the bar be in the wrong place?
  12. we have had that, i think the new scabards may have an extra roller in to stop that happening. on the plus side you get a new silky....always a good thing!
  13. id say its a wind up, all the rational questions , correct terms , indepth disscussions!! it doesnt add up as the idea of going up a 25ft ladder with a polesaw and no harness in order to dismantle the tree is plain daft imo!! ( unless ones wearing a motorcycle suit in which case its probably fine)
  14. hi iam going to make a pub style picnic bench out of 6x2 planks probably about 5foot long to suit timber lengths, just wondering if anyone has built one using online plans, seems to be few on the net, just wondering which one may be best. thanks carl
  15. here my favorite climbing photo.
  16. the roof is all done now, took me ages and i would probalbly do it all differently next time, but it has stood up to some strong winds over the winter. great to have a dry shed again. thanks again for the help, carl il try and put a photo up at some point
  17. are chipper manufacturers not moving more towards big hp diesels but with dpf filters etc to combat the emission regs?? we have an 8" jensen at work with a new low hp output diesel engine and the antistress comes on a lot, still a nice machine though.
  18. i would need more than sena comms to get my kids to listen !!
  19. you could try a thinner guage long bar, i have a thin gauge 18" bar on my 346xp and its ok. i would of thought an 18" would be long enough for the 550.

at least you completed it, i gave up i was getting so many wrong!!!
  22. sounds pretty efficient to me. there always what you would like to do but then there is what you can do onsite, part of the arbwork puzzle, blending the two together so everyones happy
  23. do you have a camper? why not spend a few months checking out potential areas?
  24. sorry i cant comment on a grigri as a havent used one. you could try and hunt out some other recreational climbers in your area, might be a good way to learn and fast track your climbing skills
  25. if you have to move your rope around the tree whilst your climbing then all those knots may get stuck which isnt great. also in the event of a wasp or bee attack you may not want to have to undo all the knots on the way down, unlikely i know.
