id probably keep it if it was my tree, looks like a sod to climb though and as a result will probably end up being reduced harder rather than lighter.

ive got a 5:1, easy enough to make up with two double pulleys, and you can incorporate progress capture with some prussic cord. plus a rope grab to attach it to the pull rope i use it a bit on my own jobs for felling, its a bit slow to set up compared with the tracked chipper at work tho!

i learnt that cut from members on here and find its reliable and effective. -
thats why headset comms are so good, the banter doesnt stop once the machines start!!!!

i had non ce cougar blue for a while and liked it, iam now on tefelburger x static, as the name says its low bounce, it runs through my bulldog bone much better than the cougar did, so i love it on that front. the downside for me is the lack of eye splice and the fact it doesnt knot very well, plus it seems hard to grip for accencts. i got a 60m length, iam happy enough with it overall, although i may get a short eye splice rope for drt trees.

we use the 550 at work , really like them , light and fast cutting, you may want to step down to a 15" bar for a quicker cut, but iam sure it will be fine on the 18" too.

much lighter to use, easier on the shoulders no noise and no pull starting, no fumes in the face or burnt arms or clothing, the only downside is you cant put a hedge trimmer head on the battery one( although those kind of hedges are best avoided anyway!) our stihl one has been fine, it does feel plasticy but seems to be holding up ok, we havent had any battery issues. not sure about price comparisons to petrol models carl

we use a battery polesaw and its so much nicer than the petrol version, could be worth checking out.

try a second hand jensen 530, simple enough machines , kubota diesel engine, and reliable. i wouldnt fancy shoving stuff through a small machine daily ( not tried one mind)

we found the vibes on the echo 501, a lot more noticable than on the husky 550

we use those star blades quiet a lot on the right sort of grass, great for the clearing up as its in rows, often cut from either end into one big row, like a mini silage operation sometimes!! the boss has ordered a wheeled strimmer so i guess we will see how it does, thanks for all the replies. carl

thanks for all the feed back guys, certinally food for thought, i was a bit concerned about the finish. i saw one working at a place we do lots of work today, it seemed to hack through it but it was a bit rough, we are there again next week so i may see if i can give it a spin. commando is that a nylon machine? looks nice alright. thanks again carl

we are thinking of getting a wheeled strimmer at work, we have a few places were we strim longish grass and rake it off. currently we use stihl fs 450 strimmers which seem to have the power to cut and leave a good finish, will a wheeled strimmer do the same?? iam thinking a self drive one would be better but idealy with the option to adjust the speed in case of longer grass, a few of the demo vids ive watched the machine seems to fly along and give a possibly dodgy finish. the grillo machines look pretty decent. any thoughts welcome thanks carl

that sounds like a cool thing to be involved in. the guys in the photo look suspiciously like they are trying to work out how to repair the balcony they have just trashed !!!
