    Hahaha

    Excellent find Tom
  2. Ho ho! As soon as I saw the thread I knew that Stevie would get a good post in Good to have a rant and get it off your chest. Maybe you should be getting paid more but to be fair you have no idea of how hard or what sacrifices your boss has made over the years to get where he is today (not that it matters if he's had it easy all his life!) Fair or not it boils down to a choice in that you can risk it and start looking for another job or just accept that your not going to get paid more than you are at the moment.
  3. In your avatar is that your MEWP gone over?! Actually I notice you have the basket close up against the house just in case... methinks you are feeling mischievous in posting this!
  4. Wood drying is based on three factors - temperature, air flow and relative humidity. Also on surface area of the wood. Split wood dries much faster than wood left in the round. Wood can be dried in a month if done right or the same wood could take 10 years if done wrong. So time really has nothing to do with it at all

    Walnut

That's a lovely colour. What size to mill it? Tricky question to answer. In fact can't answer it!! I'd do 2" slabs with the odd 3" myself if chainsawmilling!
  6. Thanks for the heads up Mark. If it's very straight, no decay, no metal etc then I may be able to give you some money for it but it wouldn't be much i.e. between £100 and £200. If it's more an average sort of tree I can collect for free as long as it's by roadside but wouldn't be able to pay for it.... but if you want send some pics to [email protected] cheers, Rob

  7. Ah well it was a nice thought!
  8. No you can't unfortunetly... however I'm getting the new prototype frame for chainsaw milling (next week in fact!) that I'm helping to design. It'll be like the winch production frame Peterson mill but with a chainsaw! i.e the saw will swing from horozontal to vertical and you'll also be able to put a large alaskan in it. All height adjustments will be done on the frame....

Exciting stuff! But it'll be a while before I can put some pics up. As soon as I'm allowed I will!

  9. Lovely job - how do you load them when you're looking to deliver?

    iPhone4

Ha ha! Great find that mark!!
  11. Too far for me unfortunetly but I'm sure they'll be others here interested.
  12. Brave guy - that's what I was told to do as well - keep absolutely stock still and the snake won't bite you or see you as a threat.... easier said than done
  13. That's good advice Magnus but what about your actual opinions on different properties and wear characterisitcs of different bars. For instance do you think a cannon bar will give you enough extra use to warrant it's purchase over an oregon bar?
  14. I don't know - given how he's gone about things so far I think he probably might!! Dadio have you got any videos of where things have not gone as planned?
  15. I'm not a fan of dadio's techniques but you've got to give him something for his tenacity - he's still putting videos up and despite a lot of flak has answered all questions without any malice. This technique of getting hung trees down - it looks downright dangerous and I'm not sure I'd try it but in each case where he has performed the cuts the tree has behaved in a similar repeatable way. So there has to be some pretty good science behind it and some pretty good skill.
  16. Sell them all (apart from Husky) and tried them all and still can't really help that much! I know (as above) cannon have a reputation for lasting a lot longer than other bars but I'm not that sure... if you put a cannon bar up against an Oregon prolite bar of course it'll outlast it as the oregon bar is for the hobby/occasional user market. But against an oregon powermatch bar (solid construction) my experience is there's not a lot in it. I've had and replaced 9 cannon bars over the last 5 years on various saws. They are very good bars - but so are the oregon, stihl and gb pro bars. I've still found myself dressing the rails regularly on cannons the same as other bars. The longer gb bars are heavier built with thicker rails and I have found they have slightly less flex in them than the cannon bars. Perhaps need dressing a little more than the equivalent cannon but then they are a little cheaper.
  17. I've got a Delmhorst digital moisture reader which is reliable. And as said logs anywhere around the 20% MC will be fine to burn. I bought 10 of these meters as Delmhorst US are said to have some of the most accurate... but have sold only 2! I'm selling them at cost now - Just can't compete with £20 meters off ebay!
  18. Good to say hello at the show Dave. Give Graham a call at Loglogic details here LOGLOGIC // Contact Us They sell the Peterson mills and will be able to tell you if there's anyone near there.
  19. Away at moment but I saw the sale go through on the website. I'm doing the bracing kit as a standard thing now to go with the Alaskan 48" and 56". It helps make sure everything stays square. Good luck with the job Ian - maybe book a physio session for just after

    Ebay 070 stihl

I shouldn't think the 076 much heavier than the 880. I'm coming to the conclusion that the 880 and 3120 are good saws up to 36" for milling but after this they haven't the torque to pull the chain through thicker wood unless the chain is absolutely spot on. I'm going to see about getting a new MS 076 over here to try out.

    Ebay 070 stihl

Great find here Charlie. I'm going to see if I can get one of these new MS 076 from Mexico for my own use.

    Ebay 070 stihl

I've spent a while looking for big old type chainsaws for milling and ended up buying one of these to try from China. I couldn't be sure without seeing in the flesh but I think this is one of those saws. This guy is being a bit cheeky though (or his supplier is) by adding some stihl stickers and worse a genuine bar and toolkit to add authenticity. The one I had was ok but after a few weeks the button that holds the choke out to start it fell off, the air filter cover thread burred and two fan blades broke on the pull starter, the pull cord broke and it was a bitch to start sometimes (and always awkward to start). I've heard that Stihl make the 090 somewhere but if so where?? I want to buy one for milling!
  23. Just let them ring round and talk rubbish - stand by your prices and don't worry about it. You'll sell out just like in all previous years!
