  1. I have spent a lot of time looking into woodworm and how it works. My conclusions are - woodworm is present wherever the conditions are right for it. The beetles are flying around the place looking for places to lay eggs. It doesn't happen overnight - as in previous posts the worms spend years in the timber (only make timy holes which you can't see when they go in). The traditional holes you see in wood is when the adult beetle emerges to mate. In modern houses with central heating timber never usually gets damp enough for woodworm to do well. The beetle doesnot like laying eggs on treated, smooth, or dry timber. Your customer has prob had an ignorant friend point at your firewood saying 'that's got woodworm and it'll go through your house'. Well if her house and timbers within have favourable conditions for woodworm - the little gritters will be there already whether your firewood has it or not!
  2. Nicely done - I bet horribly tough on the wrists!
  3. I'd love to come but when I get back off hols I'll be full on doing log deliveries. Let me know if there's anything in particular you want to see and I'll send it over to Justin.
  4. Have a put a donation in Mick. It could happen to any one of us.... Hope he recovers and keeps his leg.
  5. Sorry about this! Should have pointed out that the mini mill is designed to give those little dents on the bar - it's how it grips the bar. But this is purely cosmetic so yes it's irritating on a new bar but is not going to affect the performance. The distorted bar obviously is but I have never heard of a bar being bent/distorted in four years!. Can you put some pics up of this? We'll sort something out on your next order if you need any chain etc to compensate for the bar.
  6. Thanks for popping over to say hello Axel. I was a bit knackered and under pressure to pack up or would have chatted longer!
  7. Good to meet you and your grandad today Liam Nice to put a name to a face!
  8. Why not just add the post to your other thread? I doubt you'll get anyone to buy the wood unless it is at roadside and you can guarantee there is no metal in it. If your lucky you may get someone to clear the wood for free...
  9. Makes good outdoor furniture - durable and light. I'd quote a day rate for doing the milling and then the customer can change their mind and you won't be under pressure.
  10. Interesting technique and not seen it done before... That butt still drops down pretty quick though despite the strap of wood at the top. Hats off not sure I'd have the balls to do that. (As previously said) I'd get a line up and just winch it down.
  11. Maybe it wasn't the Stihl HD system I had then... the inside sponge didn't fit well so may not have been a genuine HD Stihl. But have you tried the saw with a standard filter Tom? and then changed to the HD?
  12. Well done for finding - great vid. Someone who really knows his stuff!
  13. I do have sympathy! We all have to keep gear somewhere and some have no choice but to leave locked in a vehicle. Sorry to hear about the theft
  14. Has anyone tried these from Baileys? Bailey's - Max-Flow Air Filter Kit for Stihl 084 and they also do these Bailey's - Air Filter for Stihl 044, 046, 066, 088, MS 440-880 I may get a few in to try next time I order from them. Looks like in the first one you have to replace the cover. Can't see how it would increase air flow that much but like all these things worth a try!!
  15. I'll buy one of those as soon as they are ready for sale!!
  16. Well done Jon and hopefully the hassal you had today hasn't dampened your spirits. Please put your findings on here + pics as is all good for getting a good idea of chainsaw millling wider planks
  17. Polytunnels can go up to 40 degrees C + in the summer... get a bit of breeze going through and you can't really beat it for fast cheap drying.
  18. If you could find me some 'tasty' wood round your way Mick I'd hire you to bring it down to me. But would only be worth it for the rarer type woods because of the distance.
  19. All in bags and I just cover the bags using small tarp and bungee customers they loves it!
  20. That's brilliant - made me chuckle!
  21. I expect by that stage he was starting to feel a bit scared
  22. Nicely done especially if you weren't feeling that great I expect Mark was a very close second by probably tenths of a second.... but is too modest to mention it!
  23. That is some nice stuff indeedy - loverly colour and very small amount of white sapwood. Looks like there is no shake either? I would definately ask for £40-00 a cubic foot. No less. So your planks are 2.33 cubic foot per plank at dimensions given so would be £90-00 per plank.
  24. Chain going round the bar is great! Maybe slow the rate of change of the pics in the corner?
