  1. The Art and science is a great book but I feel the best book published for practical tree work and IMO is a must for any working climber or groundsman is Gerry Beranek's - The fundamentals of General Treework. A great practical guide to most aspects of Treework. Also Gerry has produced the Working Climber Series of Dvd's. Again a valuable resource for any climber/groundsman.
  2. I just put a throwball on the end of my climb line with a tiny accessory crab. takes less time than coiling a bag and throwing. I am usually more accurate with the throwball too.
  3. Just go to the advanced option when replying to thread. Click on the manage attachment button. Choose file from your hard drive, Job done! At least it is on my Mac's.
  4. Exactly, and if the poster is worried about heat build up on their rope, how do they get down from a tree. Friction hitch cord gets pretty hot as does the line itself when you tonk it outta a tree.
  5. Just sharpen the chain better mate. Should be ok.
  6. Try Richard Maxwell. Which night do you need it done by? I wouldn't expect anyone to do it for you by Tuesday if that's what your after.
  7. Plus they can't lift a lot... That what your getting at? Haha
  8. The only reason the tower was used was for reach. No other crane could do it and the road outside was too narrow for a conventional crane and the other side of the trees was network rail land. Plus they are very expensive. Especially that size. I think the red one was the largest in Europe at the time.
  9. Here you go Nick... the job was about 4 years ago, I think. The yellow one was a 50m mobile tower crane and the red one a bit bigger at 60M. My mate Chris doing the cutting from a mewp and 4 of us on the floor to clear up.
  10. Here is one from last year. Wood was collected for milling.
  11. I'll hunt em out and post them Tomorrow if I remember
  12. Nice pics Liam. Nice cutting by Mike. Nick, I did post some pics of tree work with a tower crane a few years ago. What was the max lift at the end Mike, Mozzarella?
  13. You lost me there Rupe.
  14. well said that man. 850 for 3 days work is far too cheap. The the other company do it for less. Walk away with a smile on your face.
  15. On a serious note, one of the guys I graft for brought in 6 helmet pads last week. You soak the pad in water and a chemical reaction with some chrystals make it go real cold. You then fasten the pad to the inside of your lid whilst working. The guys who used it thought they worked very well.
  16. I use one of the Lyon 20L rope bags. Great for 50 metres of Tachyon. Can't fit harness in though. I also have a Gelert 90L bag for harness and everything else. About 35 quid but I appreciate it might be a bit bigger than what you looking for. http://www.abacus-ise.co.uk/shop/ropebag-c-39.html

If that is true Tony... What is there to moan about? You must have been minted at 23!
  18. Yeah they cope by adding layers of clothing and workIng accordingly. Like wise in the UK if the weather is as changeable as it has been and you get caught out wearing thermals on the wrong day. Which, incidentally I often do. Take a layer of and abracadabra, almost instantly cooler. Your sincerely, David Blaine.
  19. No worries mate. I think the sun has gone to people heads;). Just seems in times of quietness everyone starts moaning about people under cutting them, lack of work etc. As soon as the sun comes out a bit. Yeah I agree it's hot compared with what we have been used to... Along come the thread about heatstroke etc. I could understand it more if it was actually hot. What we have experienced I. The last week or so is nothing compared to what tree workers could experience in other part with hotter climes. Dudes in Oz and the US seem to manage so howcome we can't after 25 degree heat?
  20. Berks? Oh, cheers! Yeah, use your common sense, drink plenty and do what you need to. It isnt even that hot yet? What are you actually gonna do if it actually get very hotter? The answer is easy, drink more water, take more rests. Not difficult to fathom out. Maybe if people can't work that out for themselves then i would suggest you should start a thread on how to keep cool. Thanks for the 'berk' comments. They are really helping my inferiority complex.
  21. It called a tongue in cheek comment, now man up and stop whining.

I think the sun has gone to some people's heads.
  23. The shower and volley ball scenes from Top Gun are some of Marks favourite movie moments.
  24. Man up and get on with it... Drink plenty and crack on.
  25. I like the rubber idea as it will have memory. I need to do another as I knocked one I made and knocked up another quickly a forgot to insert anything... Doh!
