I reckon they are the best (nicest) pickup to tow with on the market. Near as good as the disco3 I had. Better than the LWB Shogun after that. I will say that the Disco4 is the best tow vehicle i have used. But the Amarok is not far behind I think. If it was on air all round would be excellent. But remember mine was 10-11k cheaper than a disco commercial. Has a pickup bed and will not lose anywhere near as much cash as a discovery. I just hope its going to be reliable. Only stories I have heard is the back axles having trouble if you beast them. But they gave the guy in that story I heard his money back after the 3rd axle was replaced. Oh and I get 35-38mpg without the trailer! 23-28mpg with it on.

I reckon it must turn off the road going traction control in 4low and give you off road traction control? As for it being smoother, the TCS will not have any effect on the ride. Other that you will be going slower in low. So should feel smoother.

Hi, It is the 2.0twin turbo 8 speed auto. Top of the range jobbie with all the toys. Nice motor. Pulls that no trouble, nice long wheelbase, low 1st gear and although it only has 180hp the gearbox is so good I never feel I need more. Regularly has over 3.5 ton on the back. As my trailer brimmed with chip will be nearing 4tons. Though it can only pull 3200kg legally.

Hmmm, are you sure the light is not wrong?? and the diff is engaged when you are in low? If that is the case driving any distance on tarmac in low is a bad idea. This i why I bought an Amarok, wanted a pickup with full time 4x4 and the centre diff only engaged when it needs to. I have found it to be an excellent system so far. Only got 4000 miles on mine, probably about 50% towing, but my trailer goes out in the morning at 1.5ton so I am usually pretty heavy on the way home.

When you are in low, is the centre diff locked aswell?

Peters setup is very cool, However surely a deere 6430 or any other compact 120-140hp tractor would be best for you as you say all the work is rural and out of the way of vosa/police. Pull a 14-16ton grain trailer with silage sides (or a smaller trailer if access is an issue), which you will need a 6 inch chipper running flat out to fill in a day. Plus you could stick a 3pt link crane on the drawbar to load logs and bags of rakings. A lot of this size of tractor come with front links and pto so you could mount a pto chipper to the front and just run a 4x4 to carry the saws and gear to site Also the offroad ability of a proper tractor will be vastly better than any 4x4 lorry

If they are true 100fters then you will have more like 400-1000 tons of chip. In which case I think you can get stobarts to chip it and take at no cost. Or slash, burn and sell timber in 3m lengths to a biomass supplier. Though if it is really big material, you will have to split in before chipping anyway.

I saw a massive box van being towed by a 90 defender on the A14 last week. Had to do a double take, it looked like it was an artic trailer. definitely a bogey trailer. Also saw a catering van, similar setup but a lot smaller which was wobbling around horribly, he was only doing 50. The catering van looked a lot like this The other one was twice that cm3 EDIT: Just read on the Bateson trailer website, EU law says you cant have a turntable with overrun brakes. So they are no longer making trailers like this. Maybe you can still use old ones though??

No, of course not. That would be ridiculous. However it would be nice to receive impartial advice to help the customer though. Rather than just it just be "about selling the product that you promote". Maybe the Greenmech is better suited to the particular customer. Maybe not. The point is that you can not perpetuate the myth that whatever YOU (anyone) happen to be selling is the best out there. Especially when not that many moons ago and it was Timberwolf and Jensen.

The speed and ease at which the morals of salesmen can bought and sold is quite astonishing. Don't just pick on KEV though, pretty sure ED hasn't been selling Timberwolf for long.

That sounds fine, dependent on the period and deposit. Tractor finance is normally pretty cheap because they know the assets do not depreciate heavily. Is it a Valtra you are after? I am sure I remember Browns in Daventry doing 30% off list price and 0% finance when I enquired late last year

Hi guys, Can anyone help me out? I have 40ish leylandii coming down in Burton Latimer next week and looking for a site to tip off more local than my yard. Probably 10-12ton of chip and 15ton of logs ish. They are not massive. Would also be interested if anyone local wants to give us a hand with crane trailers, tractors, grain trailers etc. We have a pto chipper on site for three days, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the 11th, 12th and 13th. You can more or less forget tension and compression on big stems (not completely though), get a load of wedges, wide and narrow, I carry about 5 plastic and two high lift. I normally try to crack the last inch or so off with the wedges if it's laying on the floor. Or have a deadish chain on another saw for the last little bit in case it gets pushed in the floor

Did you have it loaded badly? you can make the back of the truck pretty light if the trailer is weighted at the back. Also, though a 90 will technically and legally tow 3500kg, it is very dangerous at anything above about 30mph. I had a few moments in mine when fully laden, maybe slightly over.

The one in the video you posted is mine. Has been good to me, you have to keep the knives pretty sharp for it go well. Though I get at least 15hrs per turn. We are VERY careful about what goes in it. Will fill my trailer, 6m3ish in just over an hour. Helps if you are tall to load it on the trailer, the guy in the video is 6ft8. The shallower infeed is excellent when the machine is on the floor as the feed height is low and you can get a good push on the more awkward bits. You will struggle to push it up anything remotely steep on your own, it is a two man job. Though a small hand winch would sort that out. I have not used the CS100 so cant give you a comparison. They are all electric start, 18hp. I can not recall it ever stalling, though if you put a big bit in you can pull it out, like stress control. Jonathan

Could someone please explain why you would want to buy a mac, with all the same hardware that a homebuilt pc has. Then install a different operating system, but pay roughly double the cost for the hardware because of the logo? If you really wanted OSX so badly , you can install it on anything now as the architecture is identical to windows/intel. Thanks Jonathan

My narrow one had its first day yesterday on seven narrow access stumps. x7 12-14 inch conifer and x1 30inch ash on another site. Second image is of the finished Ash, customer is clearing up. Having not used one before yesterday, I have no comparison. However it seemed very productive. The main issue for me was the physical effort required on the stump if it was high (like the ash was raised out of the ground) However when the machines head was lower the balance was good and very fast. Total grind time today including moving, loading and warming the machine, 4 hours. After a few more hours practice on it I think 3 hours would be more realistic

I did this for a while when I first started (with the non tipper cage trailer). To be honest I would never go back. It is awful and unloading chip by hand is the worst way to finish off a day. Especially in the wet. I would sell the transporter and buy a 4x4 and a big tipper trailer, at least that setup will be future proof. Also have you asked the hire company about delivering the chipper to site? My local guys charge almost nothing to deliver the machines. I think its about 50p per mile or something, regardless of the size of the lorry

Just a quick video and a thank you to Jeremy Harper, Arbwork. He did some mulching for me yesterday and I would recommend him to anyone. Fantastic little machine for two narrow access sites. Video is a bit crap, I didn't have much time to get a good one.
