  1. Does not matter to you though because its a contact and quote you wouldn't have had the opportunity do without them. You are financially better off losing a few due to being more expensive than to soak the 10% up in your margin.
  2. If he wants 10% just add it on to the quote. I don't care if I don't get the job, its his customer, not mine and his commission gets added to what I would normally quote. Its NOT coming out of my money. Clearly some people don't understand what 'backhander' is, what is being asked is perfectly legal and not immoral, 4/5ths of running a business is what and who you know. Why shouldn't you be paid for having good contacts if you pass work off to other people. I have people that want commission for work they give me and others I pass work back to. I am not worried which way it works, just as long as everyone knows beforehand hopefully it won't turn sour.
  3. From my vague memory my 12ft Brian James with mesh sides and ramps weighs almost exactly 1100kg. Though I never weighed it empty, so this assumes the plated weight of the machine on the back to be correct. Either way all tippers are fairly heavy but I use mine as Daniel does, mowers, tracked chipper, woodchip, logs, brash, excavators, stump grinder etc etc
  4. Avondale have a big crane fed bandit on tracks. They are pretty close to you
  5. I think it does Dean. The 65 I had was modified by a local fabricator and it does make a massive difference to chip containment. There is a thread with both mine and Dean Lofthouses modified chutes.
  6. Those knives are done, probably the anvil is miles out as well. Also the flipper looks different the 75 I have. It is quite aggressive so does spray well. But not as bad as you are describing.
  7. A.M and MJ Harper, Arbwork on here. Jeremy will sort you out. Pretty sure he is only about 1hour in the tractor away
  8. I cant tell if you are serious?? A fall onto a static line is very bad, even short distances. Obviously jumping off a chair your knees absorb the load and a bungee the very stretchy line absorbs the load. I feel Jack Kenyon may have been trying to send a message to the students. However the consequences are normally broken pelvis, back whiplash etc. I could work out the shock loadings per metre fallen. But I would guess a true 1-2m drop would cause a serious injury. In a tree you are much more likely to swing down and across, hitting the stem but also lowering the impact from however much slack you have created. Saying that I climb above my anchor whenever its required and just try not to fall!
  9. ST 27 FSI - VERMEER S800 TX - YouTube Just seen this, which looks like stump grinder aids to me. I could chew that faster. + my Bandit HB20, which fits through a doorway and cost £7k would make that look very silly in a race. However, it looks like it would be easy to scratch build/borrow from another machine a head and rams to run a 30-40hp ish powerpack and the ability to slow the slew speed. I assume that would lift up an engine of that size without much bother. Would then be a pretty good tool and very much multi purpose. Would be even better if you could tap into the machines hydraulics and make it remote control. Though that may get expensive.
  10. Maybe ideal for Sequoia or other thick bark trees
  11. Any idea how long you get for a killing a cat? Does running them over count as man slaughter, dangerous driving or murder? If I was to club a cat to death with a spade, is that more, or less bad than running it over? Sorry for all the questions.
  12. Pretty sure you want one of these. Light, compact, definitely not. But it does chip well.
  13. Towing, 22-28 mpg, but my trailer goes out at 1.4ton + the truck with kit at 2.35ton and the trailer normally comes back 2.5-4ton. No towing, 35+. Average on the computer over the last 1655 miles is 27.3 however I make is 27.6 on the calculator. Mine is an automatic highline.
  14. The Amarok is plated to 3200kg, however it is model dependant, some are only 3000kg. However the gross train is the same as the ranger and Dmax, so in reality it is identical. Big J. For the work you are describing why would you want a pick up?? Get a Nissan Patrol, Amazon, Disco 3/4. If you must have a pick up get a double cab 110/130. All full time 4x4 with proper engines, gearboxes and rear suspension. All heavier, especially the discovery, and all much better suited to towing long distances. I run an Amarok, but if my work was purely heavy motorway towing I would have another discovery (reliability issues aside they are excellent vehicles). Another benefit of having a 4x4 is that you are much less likely to be pulled in the first place
  15. Both the sales and service team at Global are some of the best guys you will ever deal with. Their customer service is second to none and have always, all gone out of there way to help me for the 4-5 years I have known them. I would suggest your opinion of poor customer service based on your experience, which you do not describe is delusional.
  16. They really aren't that big, this is the little one and its a nice machine. I though we would have to be towed back up this bank as there was some sliding on the way down. But she went up with a bit of persuasion over some slippy roots that got scuffed off. Very impressive. And a bit of what its been used for Imageshack is being annoying and only giving me thumbnails, sorry
  17. If an AG mechanic cant fix it in 30 mins I will be amazed. Do you not have a hydraulic override so you can move it if the engine fails or a problem like this happens? The Bandits do. Sounds pointless at the time but apparently may be quite useful!!!! How many hours on your 4012?
  18. On a side not has anyone used/seen one of these?
  19. I am currently speccing my new takeuchi 23r/Hyundai 25 with the dealer (2650kg) They will run the flails but you want plenty of grunt. An Avant of equivalent cost and half the weight will have 1.5 the horsepower and lpm on the auxillary for running implements. There are quite a few videos of them running, most on 4.5ton + machines. Though you can use them on smaller diggers I imagine you would want to be pretty steady on the controls. Looks pretty cool in the right situation, though I don't see any reason why you can convert a compact tractor flail to run on an Avant fairly easily
  20. I've never understood this mentality. Every job is worth X amount regardless of how it is done or who does it. Smarter/faster workers turnover more than you in a day. People with more equipment and overheads turnover more than you in a day. Simple. However there is no point being better or owning better kit if you are not getting paid for it. If you had quoted 375 a day X4 days and they were at 750 a day x2. You both still want £1500 for the work. More than likely, they wanted to use the other contractor for whatever reason and you would have to have been significantly cheaper to change their minds.
  21. It is a bugger. Thing is I can put the stump grinder or the little chipper and the digger on a trailer together if I stay at around 2tons. Which may actually end up more productive and result in me using the digger a lot more. Because it doesn't have to go out on a dedicated trailer. Plus when there are a lot of stumps on one site my HB20 is hard work. Having a digger there aswell with a driver to dig round and clear up will make to day seem a lot easier, and my biceps will thank me. EDIT: In fact, just thought. chipper on the pickup bed. Grinder and digger in the trailer. Will mean I can legally take all three to site and still have the tipper trailer to run stuff away.
  22. Yeah, I know quite a few who runs 3s and 4s as tow vehicles. They do seem to have an unfortunate amount of costly trouble. Though I did 20.000 miles in mine and it is now owned by Dean @ Global Recycling. Pretty sure he is happy with it too. My uncle has a 3 at about 65,000 miles. Clutch is going, handbrake failed, ecu replaced, air suspension issues, bushes and joints on the suspension etc etc. Just a massive, costly pain. Genesetsteve: That is why if I was going to have a disco4 I would buy brand new and only run it for two years. But you are looking at losing 8k a year in depreciation. Which is unjustifiable for a work truck (for me anyway)
  23. Hmmm, not sure. Currently debating between running overweight towing every time I go out. Or to buy a Takeuchi 219/Cat 302.4 to try and stay legal, narrow but still have quite a bit of performance.
