  1. Just, re read. My mistake, He paid 16k for an 11 plate Amarok. Cloth, manual, low horsepower, 90000miles, would have only been 20-22 new in 2011. Out of warranty etc etc. If you can buy another car and only lose 4-6k in three years with 90000 on the clock your doing well. I actually think he overpaid for it, the car was up for 17 Hence why I suggested he buy a new one. Its being used for transporting race cars in a fiberglass trailer.
  2. 8 Speed. I paid 27500+VAT for mine, It is top spec and as far as I am aware has all the toys, except DAB radio. That was almost exactly a year ago though, they may have gone up. Also bear in mind the Isuzu and the Ford depreciate faster, a friend of mine just paid £16k for an 11 plate poverty spec with 90k on the clock. I told him to buy new, but he wanted a manual, again you can only tell people so many times!
  3. That link is for US Gallons, drop menu in the top left to change to UK.
  4. Just answered my own question. This is very impressive [ame= ] [/ame]
  5. I have seen the treejack. Do you find it big and cumbersome to carry about? How does it cope with big stuff, or do you use manual wedges and the jack in combination?
  6. Hi, thanks for the reply. I was thinking the cone off one of these. Lasco M1 40 ROLI | Jas P Wilson But the one you posted appears to be similar in the end result and also has the ability to use an impact driver instead of a ratchet. @ Shane, impact drivers apply very little force on the wrist. They spin and impact so fast you dont have to even grip them very hard.
  7. I had a ride in a dmax the other day, we did 26mpg, mostly motorway over about 100 miles with a very considerate driver (to the vehicle that is). I was very suprised how bad it was. Although, I am sure there was something wrong with it. The owner thinks this is normal, I am not convinced. I think this guy already had the fuel filter, diesel in the oil thing done so we ruled that out but. It has a truckman back and general grabber AT2 on it. When I tow at the weight limit of the trailer with my Amarok I get 18.5-21.5mpg depending on traffic. Cruise control on, standard 56mph. However I am on quite agressive mud tyres and before I could 19-25 or so with if I had a good run. No trailer, always 30+ no exceptions, steady drive 35+
  8. Well, this is an old revival. Yesterday, after spending what felt like an eternity smacking wedges I though of a solution that may work. Has anyone used a cone splitting wedge in a similar way to the rattlewedge. Except, weld a big nut on the back and drive it in to the back cut with a cordless impact driver. Mine apparently does 600nm and it knocks off rusty wheel nuts with ease. Could also take it up the tree with you. It would be a hell of a lot more portable than the RAM type wedges, and you could even split some firewood if you get really bored. Any opinions on whether this will work? Thanks Jonathan
  9. Give it a bit of left foot brake while you are on the throttle, has a similar effect to modern traction control or LSD. Not going to make a world of difference but it may help you keep momentum.
  10. Jenson A340Z 10 inch Chipper with Botex Crane | eBay This big enough? Nothing to do with me, I just spotted it the other day.

  12. Its a good job Stevie Wonder can play the piano cause he sure as hell can't weld.
  13. Two posts up. Where I bought the machine from
  14. To give you an idea of scale, the guy feeding that is 7ft tall including boots and helmet. Don't forget the hopper is wider and taller than other similar machines. When it looks full there is quite a bit of bush being dragged in. If you want to brash down pencil sticks like i see most people doing choose something else. If you want to put as much ugly bent hawthorn/blackthorn and avoid brashing out as much as possible the Bandit is great. In that video the knives had 20+ hours on them. It is a 45hp kubota engine so is directly comparable to the Forst TR8 I think. Deadwood is much less of an issue. I had a 65 which is the problem machine. Although that was made better with some mods. This still jams occasionally on deadwood. But nothing that would effect my decision to purchase.
  15. What!!!!!!!!!!!!! New blades for my little bandit 490 are about £35 pounds each. + the are surprisingly big knives for such a small machine. Must be ~16 inches wide.
  16. This is what I would type and what I get, I am in Northampton, don't know if my location makes any difference to the outcome. Probably stay away from Yell, I am pretty sure they're part of the mob.
  17. There's more drivel being spouted here than in the firewood forum. How many have actually driven an Amarok? The automatics are THE BEST pickup on the market. I have driven them all, why else would I have paid the extra £3-5k to have one of these. As for longevity, who cares I wont keep it more than two years anyway. A couple of sticky photos from yesterday for those who have never seen one with mud on
  18. A 40 ton digger, you wont even need to put a cut in in if you've got a big enough cable!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. [ame= ] [/ame] Your Landcruiser should be at least as good as the as the discovery when fully locked out.
  20. Are you sure you understand the difference? On a Defender all 4 wheels are being driven until one slips. On a pickup on two wheels are being driven until one slips. Until you engage 4wd. Also, you can get traction control on a Defender
  21. One problem I think is finding one on steel tracks. Also, does anyone make a true zero swing 8 ton, don't think I've ever seen one At £20k for an 8 ton digger you may be buying a world of trouble. I have driven quite a few 8 ton hire machines which would still be worth 25-30k and they were mostly knackered with 2000+ hard hours of demolition and pecker use. The cats are mostly on rubber over steel and have pretty good auxillary flow. If I was buying it would be the Kubota or the cat however that would be a new machine. Caterpillar 308CCR Excavator mini digger dumper | eBay The 300hour old kubota -4 I had for a week late last year was superb. I ran it on 1/3rd revs for a week pushing over trees and scraping up to a burn pile. It used no fuel was incredibly smooth and powerful. I quite like the Volvo, but it is a 9 ton machine and not as smooth as the kubota, however the ones I have used run well except the lack of tracking torque, which I put down to it being a hire machine, no idea what the auxillary flow would be like for attachments.
  22. Are you sure this is correct? When I looked at doing it, the issue arose that you merely move the weight. The gross train weight is not changed. I,e you only have 6000 GTW, you have upped your vehicle to 3500kg so now you can only tow a 2500kg trailer. If you have found a way to make the GTW 7000kg then that is pretty much the perfect 3500kg truck.
  23. This is why I bought the Amarok, Full time 4x4, torsen auto locking centre diff, traction control and an 8 speed auto gearbox. Its quite an impressive towing setup but can only legally tow 3200kg.
  24. I am pretty sure the qualifications should be recognised across the whole of Europe, same from them to us. Something to do with equal opportunities employment for the whole EU. The only country I am aware that does not follow suit is France. They ignore the EU and do what they want, especially when it comes to instructing people how to ski or guide mountain bikes! English ski instructors become the new Polish plumbers of France | World news | The Guardian http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/11007741/British-mountain-biking-instructor-faces-jail-in-France-over-work-ban.html
  25. Pretty sure Dean @ Global has/had a used Vermeer 1500 for sale. This may be spot on and it was cheap.
