  1. In reply to everyone who has PMd me so far. I have no idea what it is worth, so let me know what you think? I will be back at the yard on wednesday, maybe tomorrow and will get a few more photos then, especially of the 1st stem, this appears to me to be sound and is a lovely dark colour all the way through. Diameter at the base of both trees is probably just shy of 3ft. Though I have not measured it. Any of it can be milled on site, no issue there. Also, I have done none of the cutting so far, I have just been asked for a price extract the timber and grind the remaining stumps so they can replant. r.e haulage, I would rather not get involved hauling the timber anywhere, however I am sure I could arrange something depending on the value to someone.
  2. Walnut, Northamptonshire. [/img] [/img] Sorry for the massive photos. The 1st appears to be sound all the way through The second is rotten in the butt, but the majority of the limbs appear pretty good. Please PM me if you are interested before it gets cut up for firewood
  3. Have you re-tensioned them TY? I did on mine, Bandit though not a HB20. I calipered the bolts on the housings to get the belt tension correct, this is not right. You need to string or rule the pulleys so they are aligned. oooops Not had a problem since I did that. The belts I have on mine now are dunlop and they are 5 singles, rather than one piece.
  4. Depends what you are towing with? I think my Disco3 had a max nose weight on the ball of 250kg because of the self leveling air suspension.
  5. I can only assume anyone who does not like the American pick ups has never driven one. They are ugly, the interiors are cheap, they wallow around a bit on the road. But they are very good at what they were designed for. Big heavy lumps and they tow very well, I only have experience of the small and big block V8, petrol autos and they tow effortlessly in comparison to almost anything on the UK market. Though it depends on what you are towing, if you want to tow a little chipper it makes no difference. If you are regularly at 3.5 ton and tow any kind of distance then they just make life so easy. You don't have to worry about being pushed about all the time not having to change gear is also a massive bonus. Also the worries over fuel consumption are rubbish. Any vehicle with a heavy trailer on is doing 15mpg (Defender, Discovery, Shogun, L200, Patrol, Trooper all of which I have either owned or driven regularly). Of course if you take the trailer off a V8 you will still do 15mpg! EDIT: There are loads of places that specialise in servicing them. They are pretty simple, very little electrics and from my experience very reliable unless they are running lpg
  6. Find a Contractor - Search for NAAC members near you
  7. I regularly used to go from 6th low to 3rd high at about 30mph. In both a Defender and Discovery 3 when towing heavy weights. No knocks, no bangs, no damage. Just got to double de- clutch and time it properly. Obviously you just pull the lever in the Disco which is a bit easier.
  8. You are right, sort of! If you finance, hire purchase (not contract hire, lease hire) you or the finance company receive an invoice for the full invoice price. When you give this to your accountant it makes no difference whether you have financed the item or paid cash. A 20,000 + VAT chipper goes through the same regardless. If you pay VAT on your monthly bills (Contract hire or lease hire) then the invoices go through individually so each month invoices are separate. There might be specific reasons why one is better then the others for you situation.
  9. I have heard about variable rate finance, but this was a LOOOOOOOONG time ago and I don't think anyone offers it any more (or if it is even legal to sell)
  10. Not sure if this has been posted, but there is a built one for sale over the water, looks pretty cool. I dont know if this is specced at the updated 3.5ton towing. 2013 Isuzu D-MAX TIPPER 4X4, Price: €25,830 2.5 Diesel for sale in Dublin on CarsIreland.ie
  11. I doesn't, just a hunch that he did not get up one morning and think "I am going to cut that down" watch numerous youtube videos, go shopping and have it down by lunch. The fact he is still alive suggests to me he actually did a fair amount of research and used equipment that was fit for purpose. A bit of luck may have helped to.
  12. I was impressed. He obviously spent a fair amount of time, effort and money to to purchase the kit and learn roughly what he needed to do. Of course he could have paid someone to knock it over in a couple of hours instead of spending weeks messing about. A bit rough around the edges but A* for commitment.
  13. Yes, American. No, Schliesing are the most expensive chippers on the market (inch per inch, in the UK) All chippers of that size you want cost about the same to run per m3 chipped.
  14. I hate those softwoods like Willow and Popular!
  15. Derail, Fake 50s are very rare, because everyone checks them. Mostly fake 20s as you can buy something cheap and get a real 10 and 5 back in change. A lot of it happens at festivals and in clubs where lots of cash is changing hands and the staff are in a rush. Also you should be able to feel if the note is wrong, you can tell as you count them.
  16. I believe they are rebranded woodsman.
  17. Reaper/Slingshot (Glyphosate 360 g/L SL) 20L | eBay This is a pretty good price, presumably that is inclusive of VAT. I normally pay 70+ VAT for 20l whatever Glyphosate 360 product the local supplier has on the shelf. I have used 4 or 5 different ones and have never noticed a difference.
  18. I have roughly £5-6k in stihl products, I use them all for my business. Just ordered my usual load of bits, filters, chains, bars, blades, files etc etc on ebay and mister solutions. The two local Stihl dealers to me (both within 10 miles) are idiots. I wouldn't let them fit a new handle to a rake. If stihl don't fix this I will not buy any thing else from them. It would be very simple. If you have an account with a shop and you are a business, then you can have products delivered. Everyone else has to stick to the policy. Does Stihl America have the same policy?
  19. Did a little Horse Chestnut reduction today with mine. Roughly 4m3 of chip and a bag of rakings. Left the logs for the client, the machine would have just about chipped the logs, but no point wearing out the knives. Used about 3litres of fuel and 45minutes chipping on the clock EDIT: The last picture is massive and I cant work out why. Sorry
  20. This is a tricky one. As you may lose more than just the car/truck by using personal loans! arbmark, on the original issue. Depends how old the vehicle you wish to finance is. You may well find that you pay a large premium for financing an older vehicle (i.e more than three years old and the premium will rise with the age) I was chatting with a salesman from Ford commercials on Wednesday. They offer an exceptional package on their new Commercial vehicles. 3.5% flat with two £10 admin fees and a deposit of just the VAT. This is pretty well unbeatable for normal people unless they are buying and financing a lot of machinery every year. If you buy an older vehicle and finance you could pay 2-5x that for the privilege. Plus you still have no warranty and an old truck. BTW I do not work for Ford just was very surprised at the finance package they were offering. They must really be desperate to shift new Vans.
  21. True, I think I have a few years of youth left before days like that are no longer an option!
  22. Not 100% true, I can fill my trailer with the Bandit 490 (Know nothing of the Greenmech) in 1-1.5hrs with two people chipping. I reckon that is 6.5m3 of woodchip, which will quite a lot more capacity that a TT85. The time difference come from prepping the brash correctly to allow you to chip that fast. It takes a lot longer to cut up neatly for a gravity fed than a roller fed machine. The most I have done with two guys in a day is three loads of chip in my trailer, this included felling the trees, cutting the logs and a 30 minute round trip to tip off. I will say that I was pretty sure I was going to die though and the job would have been completed a lot more comfortably with a proper chipper, however sweat is free and running two vehicles to site is not, so.................... Pictures are posted April 11th https://www.facebook.com/TreeworxArb?fref=ts
  23. Sounds like a really good idea to me. Where does that end though? Will people be down plating 3500 to 2500 to come under the restriction and continue overloading it anyway. Or would any LGV be included?
  24. Tricky one. This is why when people ask me for a day rate, it ends up a lot to cover me in case it goes wrong. If you had priced the job yourself for two people. How many days would it have been?
  25. Did you give them a fixed cost?
