  1. Silkys are more dangerous than one handing ! I try not to use the things any more as I seem to get complacent and inevitably get idiot rash . I still don’t see why step cuts can not be done predictably unless there is extreme weather. I would not cut a branch I could not cut n Chuck with a step cut any thing bigger needs rigging or you end up like this .. Had to go back up and finish it for him , a proper mess ! Seen it happen so many times , cut and hold done badly isn’t worth the risk.
  2. Practise makes perfect... step cuts hold better side to side , try and do them with the width apart from the cuts double the stem diameter when cutting branches with foliage , if I am dismantling a tree I will set up say 2-4 or more different branches with step cuts and brake them off individually after putting the saw down , it’s quicker than cut and hold.
  3. Waiting for a 066 a few weeks now since ordered .. got some genuine stihl bits waiting bearings and rings , should be a bit of fun over Christmas and keep me off the beer.
  4. They are not to bad once you have done a few , the stop/choke still catches me out sometimes though.
  5. Isn’t the BDB inventor a member on here , surveyor ??
  6. I like the look of this one though.. great idea for those hairy spruce poles you discover you have missed a bit on!
  7. If it works for you [emoji1303] I preferred the Oregon stubai ones , thought they performed a lot better.. but every ones going to have a different opinion and technique.
  8. How do folk find the zz self tends SRT ? I was using it with a long tether and cougar blue non ce and found it really bad , tried to persevere but gave up after a few climbs as I could not see it getting any better.
  9. One end on a footloop the other with a xrse on My hitchclimber wrench set up, some times I will clip on to the harness but find it gets a lot better return on the hitchclimber.
  10. Sad story.. stay safe out there folks... it’s damn hard to put problems and worries and stresses and dead lines to one side and concentrate on a job, no one is perfect. thoughts out to his family and the people who witnessed it happen.
  11. Sorry, just read first post ! Husky man myself
  12. You want about 200 psi so need a decent pump
  13. Big shot all the way mate , I’ve stopped spending now lol , should of stopped at the set up I mentioned ,If any one wants an apta £50.??
  14. Haas, 4srt footloop ,pantin, 4srt neck tether and a RW would be less than £300 ..as long as your climbing line is not from the 90’s that is ... if you want to add every thing and the kitchen sink it would still be hard to spend £800.
  15. https://www.ransomspares.co.uk/diagram/husqvarna/chainsaws/830935/550%20xp__xpg/ Just ordered from here myself tonight ... it says next day but we will see !
  16. Thanks , will bear the grease in mind in the future!
  17. Pretty sure Steven said he can get parts ,If you want to take the risk though I’m sure I have a meteor ring I can drop off at Stevens for you. Personally I would rather put a genuine one in though.
  18. I have never seen it on 550’s and 60’s before , so the 560 I’ve just rebuilt and the others should have had sealant as well as gaskets in place ?
  19. You will have to go to Dickinson’s in Hexham mate surely just a new ring will fix it ?? I may even have a spare 550 ring but it’s possibly not a genuine one will check in the morning.
  20. Is that a sealant on the gasket ??? That’s what I meant !
  21. I’ve never stripped a 550 head and seen it look like that ?
  22. Big shot mate , and use a tip tie easy to isolate a limb if you hit good target and play with a 16oz bag on the other end to get a nice line route.. I only use base anchors if the tie in looks dodge or I could not get in where I wanted and will usually go in for a tip tie unless it’s just for a couple of branches.
  23. I think it comes in to its own on large spread trees , a lot easier to move and get a good swing out on to the tips with a single line and there is no branch friction from rubbing lines also redirects make a whole new realm to climbing on awkward limbs.
