  1. So a while back you went in to detail about some rigging job you had cocked up , you have no training on work positioning with a chainsaw I imagine on the ground let alone a tree or Ariel rigging apart from watching some you tube vids and you managed to put a hole in the roof, so imagine it had been worse and not only did it go through the roof it swung In to you intern giving you a saw injury and the guy holding the rope for you who had no Ariel rescue , first aid or idea of how to get you out could do??? Your a statistic waiting to happen imo ... and when it does it will be another excuse for HSE to add more bullshit to the ones of us who have to keep it legit and pay through our noses in constant training in a lame response to stop these accidents but the public will keep on paying the village fool to go and cut that there trees for beer tokens and accidents will keep on happening.
  2. The job I was talking about was a completely different job that required heavy machinary to lift and mill a huge oak Butt but emphasis the point customers don’t see the cost ... unfortunately are industry is riddled with jack of all clowns like you who think they are experts with no training or overheads creaming off easy jobs and having accidents making are insurance go up and have to apply more HSE regs to are crews to prove we are not as dumb which in turn requires more paper work and training and cost which I’m sure you won’t apply to your work and continue how you are as a liability , I quite agree with the OP that is not a £400 job but we have no idea or really care why he was quoted so high... he is not obliged to take the quote and won’t !
  3. I priced a job a few weeks back £450 for the day , it involved two men and over 40ks worth of kit on site , the man went in to a turn because of the cost , I tried to explain the gear needed but realised he could not see no difference between a plumber who turns up with a bag of £100 tools and some one who turns up with high maintenance Machinary with the insurance and all the other costs of trying to run a tree business.. I gave up explaining and have no need to justify any costs take it or go.
  4. Which model do you have ? The velox is tied at the top of the tube then runs down to a roller and back up to the clip ,so in theory has more spring and won’t need adjusting. I can not remember how the first version was set up but I remember having to shorten the elastic to get a better return on the ascender.
  5. Interesting ... Would rather have a fast saw and aggressive chain and smash a cut so you can get the saw out quick, saw grabbing will be down to using the wrong cuts or the limb breaking prematurely because you can’t cut fast enough chasing a cut... from my experience any how.
  6. If your gonna stay DDRT I would definitely get a rope guide or pulley saver .. with the hitch climber set up it’s mores ergonomic for your body as your climbing arm over arm but SRT is the way forward imo ,if you want to stay in the game long term doing large trees... using your legs and saving your arms for saw work.
  7. I like the CT over the petzl , it’s better than the old petzl I think as well, never tried the stein. left or right , I don’t really think it makes a difference but I skate boarded goofy so use a left foot as I’m thinking it’s stronger for pushing but possibly it’s the reverse if you lead with your right foot , either way it works for me... other foot has a haas but the CT does most the work.!
  8. I give you a month mate before you want to get back in a harness! Nice job btw !
  9. Have you tried going direct to husqvarna? Maybe explain again in an email and link to this thread.. I would say it’s more the dealer who sounds like they don’t give a toss.
  10. I was told the other day whilst dealing with wind blow that you needed an nptc to use a stop go board .. we did break the law for a 30 seconds whilst winching the Tree back up on to its root plate.
  11. So it’s an se not xp .... Cant get much off that SN , hopefully one of the husky experts will be along shortly, had a couple of late 266’s back in the 90’s the youngest was made in Slovenia by Thomas I seem to remember !
  12. Would say it was a later 266 by the starter cover decal. Have you got a close up of the serial number ??
  13. I would go one size up ... I ended up with an XL and I usually wear a medium as it was all gustharts had in stock and no more until June ... surprisingly it does not look too ridiculous , also the lads I spoke to wearing them said definitely go a size up as they feel like they where designed for midgets.
  14. Don’t really find them that bad, tbh they are the least clumpy and more on par with climbing in thick scarpas imo ... I got some fell hunters for forestry work and they feel like diving boots in comparison! I find the cervinos so comfy I can wear them for most out door stuff.
  15. I had a go on a stihl 241 and was pleasantly surprised a little screamer but I object to buying stihl if I can help it .. would love to see a 40cc husky pro saw but tbh I would probably buy one of there electric saws any how if that was what I needed.
  16. I could be wrong but that figure 9,600rpm I would of thought is when it achieves max power.. I’m sure the max rpm is going to be higher.... I will try and stick one on a tacho and see.

    Spikes

Carbon geckos are what I keep going back too.
  18. It looks quite a unit on there rupe ! Could not get on with the kiwi climbers version , even drilled a hole for a small Binet so it would not jump out but fiddling about with it when you wanted the rope was not really working for me.. would be interested to see how you get on with this version.
  19. Do you climb on a tree motion mark?? I took some of the tubing and elastic they give you for gear loops you will never need and took the sheath off some 10mm Prussik cord and put that on the out side.. works a treat.
  20. What HP is your tractor towing the current set up John, and how does it handle it ? We are having a think about a swap around at the moment , whilst our 8tonne trailer on the 6400 is great in the woods for thinning and perfectly balanced in that respect ,neither the tractor or trailer are up to much towing a load back.
  21. Can’t wait to see what’s replacing it!
  22. 0.4 was the number they have given to take annually.. tbh it’s gone very quiet over the whole scheme.. this is the kind of opinion of sheep massacre locally that is predicted ! https://www.google.co.uk/amp/www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/lynx-sheep-massacre-raises-fresh-13877945.amp
  23. I can’t see it happening my self , most of my neighbours are up in arms about it! And pushing for it to not happen I’m kind of on the fence , our grazing is open to forest on all 4 sides and we have issues already with badgers and foxes taking lambs or wounded sheep but the deer numbers are reasonable . keilder is better managed though than a lot of areas for its deer despite being almost wilderness.. working in some grotty woods outside Newcastle this week and the deer are out of control , so are the doggers and rubbish in the woods as well though, Possibly this would be better grounds for lynx where the public have an issue with culling of Deere and letting nature take its course , Tree stock is suffering un yet they won’t shoot deer!
  24. Right there peasgood we are surrounded by them, but they know what the electric fence around the coup is ! I don’t think it should of been banned , Well apart from the practice of blocking off bolt holes and sets should of been but survival of the fittest is how nature works , man has eradicated the next natural predators in the chain. Will be interesting to see if they bring back lynx in to keilder forest and what happens... wolves would of been more interesting!
  25. Errrrm ....I failed physics mate ... but that’s around the basic principles of what I’m aware of and I could be wrong , its like a 100kg lump with a bottom friction Device puts that at 200kg of force on the top point .. maybe more if you take in to account the shock loading ...I think some of the American riggers have it all worked out, maybe the Tree buzz or house is worth a visit and search ? .. all I know is it significantly lessens the forces instead of doubling them... which for me on a dead on defective stem is better than a conventional pulley device set up if you have no choice but to shock load.
