I use the same and you definitely can’t complain for the money , only issue is you can only pair three sets but to be honest we only use two any way when rigging, I love them, no shouting brings so much less stress to the job being able to calmly talk through what needs doing.

Yes mate ,maybe a bit of a weird idea I had to keep weight down on my hook kit but gave me some thing to do for the afternoon and cost barely nothing as you can get rope wrench spares for under a tenner From Tree stuff, and you just trace the original RW outline on some sheet and mark the holes and maybe modify the shape a bit... I figured as It won’t be treated like a main line wrench and used heavy and more carefully whilst in use as you don’t want to dislodge that hook on great swings and knot burn out decent it will be good , works fine though and hasn’t really worn at all.

Use it SRT style for traversing , not a massive fan of the captain though find the throat to small but it does throw nice.

Had quite a couple of the stein saw strops break prematurely just putting a saw down , they seem to have sorted that one out but good to know it would work !

I would rather have a Jake any way with the terrain up here. Winching and stacking on some of the slopes I thought it would of been handy on to have a crane mount it would of disappeared off the sides .

Sounds expensive Jonny so hope it’s not ,ours was a steal until it turned out it needed a new clutch. You not tempted seeing as it is at Wilson’s to give them a bit more for that roof mount at the same time ?? You know Christmas is coming up and all

Yes mate , with the gate off as it’s quick in easy to get saws on/off like quick draw McGraw ! They break once in a while prob do one every two years or so but worth it IMO?

Joe has a very valid point and it really annoys me that company’s and people see no issue with selling metal saw hooks , I climbed on a metal hook for about 10 years so know the risks and would never use another ,stick with the caritool ... if you rig big and think you need a big strong hook for your big saw think about what happens when that big lump of a top folds around but does not quite fold enough to give you clearance and the line brushes past you snagging the hook... only takes one time and it has potential to do a lot of damage, I’ve had it happen on small bits and that’s no worries but once rigging a big multi stemmed ash out over badger sets I had a whole top sit in the hook ..I had to cut my strop and take the swing with the lump as I could not move and was getting torn in half ! Ached for a long time after and I would consider that very lucky.

I have an older one, does the job and have cut plenty of building materials with it for barns. Would like some thing faster although I’m tempted to change the engine as it’s only an 18hp Koehler... does the job and they are priced according to there abilities.

Check the earths Jonny , our Valmet has given us loads of grief and was all fixed when they re-earthed the switch’s. We also have problems now with the gears going from high to low box’s but that’s linkage .. get underneath and wiggle and it’s fine!

Was there any die back in the upper crown? Looks to have healed well.. I’ve seen folks kill mature broad leaves doing that though.

Get sleep and forget working hard to play hard , burning the candle at both ends and all that .. this job will burn you out and mess you up for life if you go beast mode 24-7.. human body and mind is more fragile than you think and needs to recover.

I used one for a few tanks and it really impressed me ,instead of a pencil sharpener I was expecting it was pretty gutsy and quick in the cut for a small saw.

Once the carbs go they are usually knacked.. unless you know how to fix or blank off the accelerator pump I would just buy a new one, they should be about 1 turn out each with the low jet tweaked out between maybe quarter of a turn more and maybe also a slight tweak on the H as they tend to scream with just one turn but only ever seized a couple at the most on that setting and that was probably down to air leaks some where else...If it’s sucking in crap it maybe worth checking the fuel lines for holes and replacing the tank pick up filter.

Better grip and dexterity, also don’t fall apart in long shards they just wear out.

Clutch , anti vibes , fuel lines , impulse line,carb gauze and ignition module have all failed on mine of about the same vintage.. also I straight fuelled it once which it didn’t like!

One of mine is a bit hit n miss , recently swapped clutch covers over and it’s improved it but I’m thinking I have not put the break handle back together properly one time after replacing it...

Didn’t like the Bdb myself .. felt too heavy , lots of drag and fickle on ropes it was used on ... the akimbo was great on new ropes and definitely the easiest to use in a Tree especially for mid line attachment it just didn’t like sap of conifers ,saw dust or just being around them it seemed it would stick and lock up and not tend... hopefully the production model will have sussed a few issues , I did get a spare spring off rich but do too many conifers to make it work for me. .. had to go back to the reliable hitch climber and cord set up.

I’ve probably shortened it a few inches since or binned that cord .. was looking at the photo and thinking I retied one of the fisherman’s as I had just taken one off to re wrap with tape ..it just happened to be the only photo I could find on the phone of how I tie that hitch! I seem to remember that was a sporty reduction climb though so maybe I didn’t!

This is what I’m on , looks ridiculous as the legs are long but love it, never binds and tends slack pretty much instantly .. you have to dress it and there is a bit of sit back but have yet to loose it in too free fall ..just got to watch the gloves in the wrench ! Find having the wrench close to the knot really helps with drag on limb walks with being able to pull the wrench on to the knot and still have control with one hand but I doubt there are many who would want to use it ,I have tried the HItch hiker , bulldog bone , akimbo , and ZZ all seem to have there issues but with a hitch you can tune it and make it fluid for movement so much easier
