  1. Lad who freelances for us said he turned up on site last week with a 20l can of mixed fuel and noticed the guy he was working for filling up his cans with it at the end of the day ... apparently if you charge more for your own fuel as a freelancer at the end of the day it belongs to who your working for!
  2. When ground guys tie on a block with the rigging line separate and not threaded and ready to go.
  3. only reason it became so popular was because of the characteristics that made it a good rope got taken away when they completely changed the core to make a CE approved cougar.. I would stay clear unless you have tried it and likes.... I have not tried this but a lad who’s climbed on my non CE cougars brought some the other day and really likes it. https://www.gustharts.com/climbing-equipment-c1/climbing-ropes-c3/ropes-with-terminations-c4/teufelberger-drenaline-p1691 It felt in hand a bit like cougar... and not too thin which is good for me , can’t be doing with climbing on cheese wire ropes.
  4. looks an interesting set up. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F253629002049 Quite a few nice ones on eBay at the minute.
  5. Willows and poplars do it for me , although I dont mind poplars that have never been pruned as they tend to be light and are great trees to spike but once topped they give me the fear .. I’ve had whole stems of regrowth fall off with a push to reveal the most awesome cavity’s , I trust most other species , don’t mind walnut I trust it more than the above two apart from it being like Velcro so if your reducing one you have to try and launch every twig out or it hangs up. Cankered up chestnut with a big spiral of dead bark and dysfunctional Wood never gives you much confidence either. Hate spruces and pines in the height of summer when it’s too warm to wear gloves and your covered in sap wrecking your ropes and clothes too... or when they are coming on sap and they seem to weigh twice as much as normal. Monkey puzzles ... black thorn ,robinias and honey locus.. for obvious reasons. Those huge limes with every limb included that get your throw bags stuck or rip out when you put some weight on them when your set to ascend. why do we do this job again??
  6. It can be as sharp as humanly possible if it’s not oiling it won’t do its job...if your pushing a saw that won’t cut .. well you should not be pushing a saw it should be doing the work for you ,accidents are likely to happen. Titan stuff .. even screw fix told me what did you expect it’s cheap for reason when I complained about some carpentry tools .. can you hire a decent saw From easy hire or some thing to finish the job. Failing that you have a cup of veg oil and dip the bar in it every 10 seconds !
  7. Some folk have been , I think it’s some thing largely untouched until the zk1 came out but I had always heard about these mythical beast climbers on there Pantins and hand acenders who would leave most good climbers for dead on big London plane Tree’s . I think for myself myself I largely skipped over the Jeff Epsom’s and Tom dunlaps book touching on it as I felt a pantin on a double rope was good enough for my basic climbing needs. I think also I tried the zk1 and hated it , brought a mk2 after the raving of it on here and hated it and it sat in the bottom of the bag for a few years before I gave it a proper chance and it changed my working life! My opinion now is Kevin Bingham should get a nighthood for it!!
  8. If your gonna be using the saw please do some internet research on what causes kick back your confusing terms here, actual kick back is a phenomenon caused when actually cutting and not starting a saw... it can be fatal so please have google on chainsaw kickback and cutting best practices... good you got the saw running [emoji1303] https://www.husqvarna.com/uk/forest/when-working/usage/work-tasks-with-risk-of-kickback/
  9. Delete and reinstall sam , worked for me.
  10. Link to a SRT rescue stolen from Instagram I that is pretty impressive ... , there are so many ways I think you can rescue SRT In different scenarios that would make it safer and easier... as a climbing system altogether I think it’s the future for Tree climbing, I’m working with guys who are slowly converting and like my self found it horrible at first as it’s a complete different experience but once you have got your head around the basics the fluidity starts to return with a bit of practice. Problem is you can’t practice in a work scenario so most try it and go back to what they know, personally for me loosing a bit of the fluidity until I got to grips was a very good move for saving my body and productivity in the long run , I’m getting older so have more experience but a career time of pulling your body around on a double rope does nothing but damage it from my experience.
  11. Old git does I believe... looks a handy set up for when you can blow back chip on road side stuff as it is a hassle taking out more vehicles when the mewps limited to only doing what it does, you some times it think was it worth the hassle in bringing it out three trucks on site.
  12. Just had to mot are mewp and it’s on a landy .. I thought the new legislation meant they all need an mot regardless and there was no loop holes ?
  13. It’s a lot easier to navigate the unread posts as well, on the web browser it gives every reply to a thread when I just wanted to see the topics last replied to so I’m not scrolling through every reply to topics that don’t appeal to me.
  14. Apps knacked it looks like.
  15. Have had a lot more stihl chains snap than Husqvarna , especially when they lightened up the DL’s with the hole in the middle I believe for better oiling .... I recall snapping them weekly with one time being in a tree and reving up a 200 and the chain snapping and flinging off in to the sunset over gardens because some where in the last few chains breaking the chain catcher had been torn off!
  16. Mostly the first pic unless there is a very clear collar present.. I had always assumed following the branch bark ridge down and forming an L and aiming to finish the cut on it was the correct method?
  17. And what was the answer to your question dude ...?? Step cut or dogs tooth?? I’ve never been asked to do one in Ariel cutting in a refresher assessment so intrigued if it’s the dogs tooth but would make sense in light of a few accidents that have been noted by hse over the years ,it’s about time more focus on tensioned limbs where part of the course.
  18. Happy hitch over a VT if the cords slipping on new rope was what I was getting at ... Works for me on new ropes until they have broken in then it’s back to a VT.
  19. Try playing with the wraps and braids and if you can’t get anything to work try crossing over the legs on the cord and after the braids before they go back to in the hitch climber Krab. Never got on with ocean my self though , armour Pruss is by far the best cord out there , grips every time and won’t burn out.
  20. Had front and rear both replaced on my l200 recently and it cured the problem.
  21. My first chipper was used and a dog that cost more in time and money repairs .. I would not hesitate again to get a machine on lease hire/finance as it’s 100% tax deductible... chippers being Chipper’s will always need money spending on them but there is a lot more peace of mind on a new /nearly new machine. Ex demo if you can find one will save a you a bit but I would avoid ex hire machines with low hours as they generally have been abused unless you can get a warranty on it.
  22. Tajfun .. there is a fella on here who recons his small tajfun on the alpine out pulls the igland and uniforest 4t winch’s he’s had by a clear mile... off that we brought a 8.5 tonne one that would flip a tractor if your not careful! Especially if your standing back with the remote and not watching it! We use a tiny 2001 igland in our 35 Hp tractor , I think the iglands can all have remotes fitted from memory though ... it’s so light which is easy for taking on and off and manoeuvre to store and is very simple to maintain but has enough pull for small medium thinning.. still pulled some big lumps with it though doubled up though.
  23. Had a couple mate and they have lasted well ... had at Least 4 of the other petzls and prefer the lighter one... not as dry in the rain but better vented for the heat.
  24. Have done a few , pillar drill makes life easier.
  25. Quality as always reg, do you try and get the heavy rigging done near the beginning off an isolated spar or do you rig off the same spar as your anchored on throughout the job ?
