  1. Bowl saver ? I'm thinking you can get a few off them for sure.would you put them at the back of the shed for a couple of years though? I've only turned stuff that I've salvaged and left once it's dried if I've wanted to keep it.
  2. Don't work your self up j they came off a tiny wolf stem , the guy has some mill able stuff if you want I'll take pics and send them too you, it's going at £45 a tonne but there is not quite an arctic load but tbh I don't know as I've not seen it.
  3. Picked up a couple of large ones yesterday off a bloke down the pub , what's the best to do with this ? The faller wants a bowl in return for them can it be turned green or would it be better left too dry then turned. Thanks mat
  4. All day relentless ringing up for oversized stuff the processor won't touch the other is my dads slabbing saw , I won't touch them though I've got some feeling back in my hands since I stopped using 044's 460's over ten years ago and my fingers have stopped locking up , they are possibly the worse saws for anti vibes I've used , alright for the old man though as what fingers are left there is no feeling.
  5. I would not use either of my 460's on a 20"and 25" for any thing if I could help it not overly keen on my 576 on a 24" either, rung down this on a 560 today 25" timber until it was low enough to fit the gap , I would take the 576 for rigging and big lumps and the 560 for rings up too 25" 560 all day long for felling in the wood up to 395/088 size trees.
  6. On a 25" I would not know joe but it will cut 25" rings twice as fast on a 15" when the 460's on a 25" running side by side that I do know.
  7. From personal experience the above on many occasions is true!!
  8. I would not use any saws but 550's/560's... best saws I've ever used, the 560 makes a 70 cc saw redundant its that good.
  9. That's not always the case though.. But it's great when they do!
  10. Got it caught a few times Ian hollowing it out, think it's knackered now ! I suppose an excuse to get a new one.. Can you recommend any? Couple of questions what do you guys use to sharpen your tools and what sort of angles should they be at ? How often should you be sharpening during the course of making a bowl ? Any help would be great cheers , mat
  11. That makes sense ! Thanks . Was there any specific reason for the change ?
  12. Are there two types of clutch for the 550 ? One I did the other day knocked off with a combi spanner and mallet and looked like a 346 clutch the other one looked like a 560 clutch on it infact we used the 560 tool to get it off and it was a total pita thought the crank was going to bend!!
  13. Arb talk ap is great for down loading pictures .
  14. Have a lot to learn !! I'm in the north east , I'm looking at your stuff it's inspiring ! Thanks, mat
  15. Amen to that rich , sounds a great company to work for , like Dave says you have to respect the gaffer who leads from the front thoughtfully and has no qualms getting stuck in.
  16. Set my lathe up last week and made my first large bowl . It took all day so I think some where my technique is massively wrong , even bent a gouge trying to hollow it ! Gave up trying to get any real depth was scared the cracks would spread , may go back to it if I can improve my technique when I know what I'm doing but really enjoyed it any way
  17. Had the exact problem with one I ordered for a 395 so I took off the clutch shoes and springs from the new clutch kit that would not fit and fitted it all back together on the old clutch spindle and it worked fine , saved the hassle of having to re-order although a bit of a faff.
  18. Broken a couple of handles, just pulled the clutch cover bolt out of the plastic engine casing and the anti vibes are terrible , saying that it's helped my tennis elbow and is the perfect saw for reductions, hedge work, dead wooding/crown cleans and I would not be with out it for that kind of work.
  19. What she really needs though is a few cruise missiles launched on her village killing the Taliban and her remaining family....and If any ones survives maybe they will feel enough hatred to join the Taliban so some folk in a far away land can sign a new Trillion dollar agreement for the next generation missile that this time will be so accurate it only kills the bad guys ... Or will it??? But tbh honest though I'm not entirely concerned with the little girl and the Taliban call me selfish but more for the soldier who I grew up with who has to go out and pick up the pieces of her family from the missile strike who then gets blown up by an IED on the way back to base.
  20. With beech it's usually side limbs that fail, dead wooding large beech's in a council owned park we noticed one had starting to crack on a limb about two thirds up that you could not see from the ground so came down and rang the T.O to get permission to take it off.. 20 minutes later it had cracked off and taken half the canopy with it on to the deck any way !! As a bit of a knee jerk reaction I think every beech in that park was felled after. I think if I was climbing any tree I would try and asses it on ascent in to the canopy to get an anchor or if I was unsure possibly base anchor SRT so your over as many limbs as possible before installing a retrievable line for working off.
  21. I quite fancy one mark,I recon we could get to the black bull in wark in under an hour if the burn and Tyne are in full spate.... Or possibly drown.
  22. 550 on a 15 325 8 pin 560 on a 15 3/8 8 pin Tbh I'm quite taken with the 550 , may get more done on the 560 but feel like I've had enough by 3pm !! 550 definitely keeps you fresher and is nicer on slopes hard sites, not sure how it's going to run on the 8 pin as I only fitted it weds after having to strip the saw from Sheeps wool around the drum I thought why not , changed the one on my misses to an 8 pin a few weeks back and she has not complained but don't know if she's really used it and it has an exhaust mod any way.
  23. Most certainly !!
  24. Get a fly rod Jon and chuck out some dog biscuits to get them feeding then cast out a super glued or imitation dog biscuit with a 15lb leader , you really feel how carp fight on a fly rod.
  25. Sure Jon 2lb Max mate if I was buying another , I've got a couple of 2.5lb test curb rods and you can drag any thing around and through with them but you can't feel a thing just like pulling a dead weight with the occasional kick with fish, I like to give them a chance .
