  1. You could use a fig8 as well as a blakes. Therefore backing it up & taking the pressure off you hitch
  2. Lanyard, silky, fig 8, 1st aid kit, krabs with slings x2, rope guide if needed, large throw bag for climbing line , small plastic wedge & a saw to cut whatever size timber I'm working on. All bits & bobs fit in a bag so not much clutter
  3. If it is NOT ppe then you all need to investigate the relevance of using a hitch srt. If it is, then it needs testing in conjunction with a hitch Either way the current ambiguity will not further the use of this or similar systems
  4. Religion is like smoking - enjoyed by those who are addicted - those in the grasp see no bad or harm in there dirty habit. - those who quit go on to be healthier & more socially acceptable I can continue if need be......
  5. Great if your going to use hard rigging for your anchor. Bad radius for cordage. Nice kit for redirects etc but not sure about catching loads when negative blocking
  6. With Christians being in such a minority, is it right to call ourselves a religious country of any persuasion? Why tar ourselves with such a label when we could say a free country - free to believe anything or not as an individual chooses
  7. The power that the imaginary friend/god has over believers is frightening. It is a crutch for the weak & justification to war, control& manipulate for the powerfully. Often enables the denigration of women. An author ; R A Wilson noted that "when dogma enters the brain, all intellectual activity ceases" true words in most cases. I despise the religion not the follower as some of them are the best of us.
  8. Haha your a fool if you think council teams are all lazy & unproductive, employing poor staff. The wages are usually compativley good, conditions excellent, kit first class thus attracting the better climbers & tree workers.
  9. I am curious. How many of you complaining are compliant enough across the board with regards to legislation & in practice to get LA work?
  10. Tax payer is the client Have a good day mate
  11. And the LA does all it's normal work for nothing Is it not like a company with a huge single contract that pays for everything & supplements it's income with some works external to this?
  12. Yup, totally crazy - i can't see what's criminal about head butting a conservative MP?
  13. I hear a lot of bad feelings against LA teams. I just put it down to people being jealous? Those tendering for external works , are simply trying to keep there jobs by finding extra funding, in these times of draconian cuts in the public sector I have worked on both sides of the fence & the grass is not always green on either side
  14. I detect ecomentalism in the house
  15. What Graham said. Try & keep branch walking to a minimum so not to overload your t.i.p. laterally. Perhaps work off the ball of the crane if your R/A & crane operators see it as a viable option
  16. When seasoned & dried it burns really well. Good firewood
  17. Why does the ascender need a C.E. mark Carl? I see no reason why it should
  18. Washing your rope is usually a good first step. We have found that it helps in both reduction of slippage & increased rope life. (there are 7 lockjack/spyderjack users at work)
  19. I have seen footage years ago of a double big shot. That looked fun. If you want to gain extra height build a trigger mechanism & shift to a smaller bag & filament line
  20. Link please
  21. What I want to know is why you were googling tree work & strap-on?
  22. Good description. It need not be as complicated as a skyline to be effitient and practical
  23. Too many variables & too complex to throw any numbers about without hours of maths. Common sense is the best tool in this case
  24. With some ingenuity, lots of rope, a couple of winches & some muscle I can't see the task being impossible, especially if you can tension lines with vehicles etc
  25. Hama, polydine would not be suitable for this application as it's not static. The stretch would mean you would have to "over tension" the line to get comparable clearance with a static line. The extra stretch is what make it a good rigging line, dissipating some of the energy. In most speedline set-ups people try & get the line taught. This is seldom necessary & puts a massive amount of lateral force on the rigging points, possibly inducing faliure either when tensioning or when extra load is placed upon it whilst rigging
