Bit of bank clearance today, started by felling and snedding, then doh, there is a 3 ton 👹 Semi controlled chaos ensued and now it just needs a bit of fettleing.

That's right, when standing and green it is unpalatable to animals but dried mixed in with forage it gets eaten.

As above, I always just start by giving the carb a clean, remove and clean needle valve and just replacing the diaphragms and pump. I check that the fuel inlet pipe will hold light pressure and vacuum. Generally this is all they need and I don't go any deeper into welch plugs etc. I've had some that still leak and then its a case of finding the leak.

What you've done is air layering, a common method to make a new independant from a branch of an established tree. It tells me your graft may not have taken. If nutrients are not getting down to the roots it will encourage root growth at the end of the cambium where its been ringed. If the graft was successful, the roots may be a secondary result of it being covered. I'd suggest carefully snip off the new root growth and check the graft and leave it uncovered.

Morning all, Had a really productive day yesterday. Felled a row of conifers, dissecting round a climbing rose, then used branches and three trunks to make a trellis for it. Crown cleaned a lime. Not sure about today, maybe rain, maybe get more done. Stay safe all.

He'll open the cavity walls if I hide food so that's not happening. I have an even clearer than usual day tomorrow so a big walk for a great reset I think. I now retire for another beer and to throw the squeaky elephant (replacement for the squeaky reindeer) for him.

Biggest thing, for a lot of us, is checking your cover includes commercial vehicles. Standard cover doesn’t include up to 3.5t.

Try pulling the seals on the crank bearings first, they may tell a story although the flywheel side may not give you much of a view....not done many 61s...ADW would probably have a bit more experience on these. Looking at the bearing through the open part of of the crank lobes may also help but can't really see the metal being anything else than the main bearing cage. I had similar on MattyFs 560xp many years ago, one of the stuffers had disintegrated causing similar damage. I managed to grind the port damage out, a good friend machined a pop up and took the base of the cylinder down and it worked on for a few years before detonating.
