  2. Apologies for not following up but I thought I will give update and ask few more question before I plant new trees. Bad news is that it was dead. I did see a lot of green fungus on trunk so my best guess is it was because of fungus. There was another tree crabapple tree 15-20 ft from this that is also dead but other tree are not dead. I will be digging these tree out in next couple of days and plan to plant new trees there. Now question is what can I do so my next tree in same spot doesn’t die? I would still like to know if what was the problem and how to avoid that? Any ideas to understand the cause?

  4. Wow, look at the profit Stihl are making .... The wage bill .... the rates and services costs .....
  5. I think the multifuel engines would run on anything from gasoil through kerosene, avtur and low octane petrol. As they depend on compression ignition they will not fire on neat high octane petrol or avgas as that would need a spark. The thing is they run well on gasoil/diesel but white smoke badly on kerosene, at least the K60 in the 432 I tried did.
  6. Yes the few I have the tang pokes through the handle and the tang is either bent or passed through a washer and them peened. I also have two blades where the tang has broken short (one I welded a threaded rod on and secured with a nut. The long handles one have side cheeks and two rivets through the handle. When we used Yorkshire style long handled slashers, before chainsaws became ubiquitous, they also had a collar that was driven down the side cheeks before the rivets were driven IIRC, it was a long time ago. I could take some pictures tomorrow if wanted?
  7. Crap. Wordle 1,068 X/6 🟨⬜⬜⬜⬜ ⬜🟨🟩🟨⬜ ⬜🟨🟩⬜🟨 🟨🟨🟩⬜⬜ ⬜⬜🟨🟨🟩 🟩⬜🟩⬜🟩 Threw away the last couple of lines, couldn't be arsed, didn't have the patience. 15 minutes is about the maximum time I can spend wrestling with a Wordle.
  8. Seems to be unusually slow here in mid Sussex. This time of year things normally start to pick up with people heading outside and finding trees/fencing that needs doing. Looked at my first job for two weeks today, started off as a load of trees and some fencing that needs replacing. By the time we had had a look at a few bits it went to just a few trees to remove. By the time I left it’s one small maple to remove and I doubt I’ll get that so a complete waste of time. Out of every 5 jobs I look at I’m loosing 4 to people working for peanuts. Recently lost a job which i had priced at £3500 + vat for two of us for a week. Guy I lost it to had come in at £1200 and said two of them would have it done in two days. Spoke to the customer a couple of days ago about another job and asked how the guy got on with the trees. Said it took them 4 days with 3 men on site….. I honestly don’t know how people like this can exist running a business. Were fortunate that we still have 8-10 weeks work in the diary, just hoping it picks up in the mean time.
  9. Hi, I didn’t plant this Norway maple but my dad did about 15 years ago and my dad never exactly cared for the trees beyond planting them. There’s an area of this tree I don’t see as often because there’s a willow bush in front, but I went there today to remove some grass and noticed all the black marks along the stem. I first assumed wetwood but now I assume this is bark inclusion? I absolutely adore this tree and I’m devastated thinking of anything happening to it. Can this be fixed or helped in any way?
  10. Maple Trees in Longeaton offer a biomass service. Give them a call. They have a big Doppstad. Put it through there a few times if you want slurry out of it!
  11. The Husqvarna electric saws were always built in Norway, I am pretty sure they are not Makita machines badged engendered, however I will find out for sure.

Ah! The old green 240l general waste bins have been "converted" into your new general recycling bin. The old blue 240l general recycling bins have been "converted" into your new paper/card only bin. cue local uproar from people who can't read a leaflet (we sent very little paper/card for recycling, it is burnt on the stove/composted/used in the garden, so a paper only bin is surplus) By "converted" they mean the bin man stuck a new sticker on the bins. We live in exciting times
  13. Massively. It’s connected to the amount of wine consumed at lunchtime.
  14. Been back. Some photos of the bench. Just love the bat though
  15. I've been running veg oil in my saws for more than 15 years. Never had any problems, except possibly this one but I'm not convinced it was the oil itself! I think bar oil is not worth the money to be honest plus it's bound to be more damaging to the environment.
  16. Interesting idea. Trouble is these are large, mature highway trees, any kind of wrapping etc would probably need maintenance, which council won't do. That's why I thought tree paint, similar to what they use in Europe might be useful. I know it's not normal practice here.
  17. No sadly we never heard anything more. Interesting finds tend to go to museums or archeological societies. We move onto the next project and very rarely any updates 🤷‍♂️ Regarding the brownings it would be great to get a serial number and identify the aircraft. Some of the guys are on the nearshore intertidal clearance at the moment. Nothing interesting so far but defo a novel way to get over the mudflats 👍 fbac7903-b9da-4604-b760-f87117699cb8.mov

  19. having left a big sticky up bit and a big bulge on one 'corner' on a supposedly finished purple plum haircut the other day, I certainly won't be throwing my hat into the ring I came up with the usual excuses about trees not being perfectly symmetrical and geometrical in nature, but on revisiting the garden a few weeks later I realized my pruning skills were only slightly better than the dreaded gypos

  23. Gator sell several versions, ET 30, 40 & 50. Only really used ET30 but vaguely remember buying ET20 that was very thin.
  24. The purchase of a GreenMech EVO 205D has brought additional strength and performance to the fleet of Norwich’s Crown Tree Services. Upsizing from a 6” road tow unit, Owner James Basey-Fisher has not only been impressed with the EVO’s ability to tackle all types of timber and brash, but also the service received from GreenMech and local dealers Thurlow Nunn Standen (TNS) since the delivery of the unit in early 2024. Established in 2015, Crown Tree Services offer the full range of tree surgery and arboricultural services to domestic and commercial customers in and around Norwich and Norfolk. “I’ve known Neal Hussey for a good few years, and upon joining GreenMech, he got in touch with me at a time when I was toying with upsizing and upgrading our primary road tow unit” James explains. “We had a demonstration of the 8” EVO 205D and were seriously impressed – it has outstanding pull and processing power and sits nicely behind the truck giving us a great set-up for work in residential areas.” The 205D extends the EVO concept of more powerful bite, torque and throughput. Its deep beam, high tensile steel chassis delivers tremendous strength and robust reliability, while the generous in-feed hopper ensures the free-flow of large brash and bulky material. “It complements our existing tracked woodchipper really well, and has become our go-to day-to-day machine for jobs that demand strength along with reliable power and performance.” “Another thing about the EVO is the ease of maintenance and servicing” he adds. “It’s clear that the design has the regular upkeep in mind. The chip chamber fully hinges open to allow good access to the flywheel, and things like the replacement of filters and changing between blade sets is simple with more space to work in.” On top of impressive performance, James has also been pleased with the support received from dealers TNS. “Communication has been brilliant throughout, everything from organising the demonstrations at convenient times to answering any and all of our questions! The aftercare in general has been second to none really. We rely on our equipment and need it running at its best, and knowing we have that level of support from TNS and GreenMech is a huge plus.”
