Emergency felling license
daltontrees replied to mitchel's topic in Forestry and Woodland management
The law on this is clear once you know about it. You do not need a felling license for felling trees "in compliance with any obligation imposed by or under an Act of Parliament...". That would include road safety legislation. Get something in writing, anything, from the Council that says the trees have to go, and keep a copy. Then fell them. Do not apply for a license. Do not wait. There are addiitonal exemptions for "the prevention of danger" and for "the felling of any tree of the genus Ulmus which is affected by the disease in elms caused by the fungus Ceratocystis ulmi and commonly known as Dutch elm disease to such an extent that the greater part of the crown of the tree is dead". Again no license is required. All this assumes you are in England and Wales. Different law in Scotland. Very different in Ireland. -
The makers of this video think that the public sector is suffering because of lack of funding. So where do they imagine the highest tax regime since World War Two actually goes?

I have more than once asked them to produce some Special 6 smocks for us in any Hi-Viz colour, but preferably orange. They eventually came back with “ if you send us your garments we can stitch reflective strips onto them for you”, completely missing the point, even though I had told them we worked in Forestry not highways. Considering the amount of garments they supply to search and rescue teams, you would think that HI-viz would be a standard option by now.

I must have bought one of the last pairs of fellhunters and now that I want another pair I can't find them anywhere and the arbortec website doesn't list them anymore. I like the high leg and the soles have stood up to walking on a lot of sharp rock. I can't see any similar boots apart from spending big bucks on some Pfanners. Anything I'm missing ? Any recommendations? Anywhere still got size 8/42 fellhunters on the shelf ?

I prefer an indecent coffee maker myself, far more fun!

Love the cafe unrequited love story! Not sure what I've got on but would like to watch the rugby! Bonus daughter doing a roast for 8 people later which is usually a good affair! Bauble, Land, Squeak.

Anybody else there to witness a fantastic game? A friend asked me down as he has permanent seats there. I have been twice before and not enjoyed it as it was either freezing cold or raining or both but this time the weather was perfect and I think they seem to have altered the floodlighting as everything seemed so clear. The atmosphere was great and also better than previous occasions I have just watched the Welsh game and thought that they did well in spite of the score. They were not only up against a great side but also up against a side that had obviously been given a strong dressing down by the management! The quality of passing and kicking is a joy to watch and also my attention is with the Red Roses whose handling and passing is also superb. Being a sad old git I can watch Ellie again and again!

It is a rare condition when certain people working with wood all their lives have their brain matter replaced with sawdust!

No mate, its not that big, must be the aspect of the photo! You can easily stand and split from the ground. Guy that built it for us made sure it was sub 750 kg for the road.

Picked one up in Aldi today actually.. wouldn't have seen that 20 years ago 😂 -
Yeah I use radmoors a fair bit. But still too far to drive. Always happy with the service provided and would recommend. Latest battery husky hedge trimmer was delivered next day from them. Honey ordered Friday arrived the following Friday with delivery charged at £9.99. Is what it is I suppose, nobody died I got my goods but I do feel like the delivery charge is a bit steep for the timescale.

The last decent sized job I planted was about 30,000 mixed hardwood, 14,000 of them an experimental Sessile Oak block, with a mix of UK and German provenance, FC site over at Abbots Wood near Polegate, East Sussex. All trees had to be staked and tubed at the end of every day due to excessive browsing by the exploding deer population., then had to replant and re stake hundreds of them every Monday due to the weekend vandalism. I had planted a similar amount every Winter for the best part of 25 years, but this was the end of the line for me, stood there at 5am digging in the dark with a head torch on to get the numbers in and make it pay, only to have the whole lot ravaged within 5 years by grey squirrels, no thanks.

Agree. I think they're unrelated, OSM has just been particularly unlucky! They probably share causes; the same occupations or too much of one thing can lead to either or both of them.

As per the title. Dolmar PS-420c package brand new and unused. Bought several years ago from Shavey of this parish to replace my old husky. Long story short I ended up changing jobs and going back into the construction industry. Still got a couple of other saws that I use for firewood but I’m not in the arb industry at all now. The power head has never had fuel in it. Comes with an 18” Dolmar bar and Dolmar 18” 325 chain. Also a 15” Dolmar bar and Dolmar 15” 325 chain. Also 1L of Dolmar oil, bar sheath and metal Dolmar carry case. Everything is unused, and has been stored carefully. Make a great saw for someone starting out or wanting a good back up or delimbing saw. Not sure what this is worth so how about £300 collected from Felsted North Essex CM63 postcode. Happy to post at buyers expense or meet up if a reasonable distance etc. happy to answer any questions Jez 07790 022007£300

What an innings. You have to hand it to the guy, that was tremendous batting. Not so tremendous a performance from England's batting to put it extremely mildly.

Surely that's misuse, like ragging it on full throttle while the clutch slips? Otherwise I can't see how to wear the inside of the drum so much before the teeth come off the sprocket.

Fxk no. They're comical with their crazy heat, and have a weird but nice flavour. Not that easy to grow here though..

Try and find a NRV to fit before the filter to stop leak back, maybe strip the mechanical lift pump as it may have rubbish in a valve prevent a good suction/pump.
