If it’s bad it's out of action so just strip it down and get numbers of bearings. If still towable run it to trailer supplier and they should be able to say which bearings by looking at it.

Morning, sorry to hear about your mate Stubby. i went back to work yesterday after 2 weeks of basically living and sleeping on the couch , it didn’t take long before I seized up and twanged something in the back of my leg , 😂. Went to bed at 8pm, started my baby night shift at 4am, fed and she went back to sleep at 5am. Luckily my nephews out grounding today and shifting the timber so I’ll point at stuff when I go in at 9am.

If you know it’s wrong, go and get yourself tooled up then, it’s not hard to find a gun if you want one. You can walk around in blissful harmony knowing that you won’t be ‘scared, just prepared’ in whatever situation you find yourself in, imagine how safe you will feel whilst purchasing your Elderflower cordial down at Waitrose. If you do get pulled, you will face a 5 year stretch, but you could just argue your individual rights override the law, that degree will certainly come in handy.

That beautiful moment when the first tooth you sharpened appears again all shiny and bright! ( after what seems like hours sharpening a 66 36” bar on the job when your crew didn’t tell you it was hammered!!) Yes, I was the only one to use it afterwards! 😂

Hi All. not sure if this is the best place to put it but my chipper broke down today Forst st6P. Called Forst and they had a technician out within 90 minutes and had me back up and running by the afternoon. i know ill pay for it when the bill comes in but super quick, polite and efficient service, i cant argue with the service i received. weight it up against the headache of getting parts in, time off work and hire in costs. it made sense. And handily did a service and blades at the same time so save me a Christmas job. So all in all very happy. Just to note it was the main bolt on the top hydraulic pump sheared off. Luckily didnt damage the pipes which apparently is common result. apparently they can work loose over time so worth checking if you own one. Cheers

Hi, I made another self led course available online. This time it is: Tree Risk Inspection Basics: Assessing for health and safety. 1.5 hours long. It was created to help people in the basic assessment of tree condition and risk. The idea is that it helps people pick up things that may be or become hazards but also to understand the needs of the trees so we can hopefully preserve more mature trees. It is useful to those actively and passively assessing trees. Please have a look at the full description, or start the course, following the link as it is too much to put here. There is that but it’s probably the tastiest bird you will eat... I might take a couple but I’ll only do it if I see 30+ flying over me in half hour. Beating on a shoot in Durham and they must of shot 50/50 with the pheasants be never seen as many and the guns didn’t even get a shot off at the majority, again when I beated down in Cambridgeshire you might of seen one in the entire day despite the woods being like swamps ! I’ll walk up there most nights just to watch them… snipe is something I rarely see now , I used to be able to see 3-4 in an evening on a 30 acre stand now I might see one a year.

Stihl MS261c Easy start swap to normal housing

I'm going to try to repair the existing housing pin first. I plan to machine the pin with a new circlip groove and lower the nylon engagement part to allow the washer and circlip to be fitted. I know professionals are not keen on the ergo starts for every day use, but they have a place for the firewood cutters who are elderly or physical compromised and require a quality machine. The only problem I have is remembering not to drop start them. I can buy a new housing inc shipping for £74, or buy secondhand none ergo for £63. I haven't checked with seller above if the are Motronic or not as well as they are different. If I could find a secondhand ergo start from a 261 or a 291 that would be the answer. The only other issue is that with the ergo start, saw is not fitted with a decomp valve although I don't think it would be a problem for 90% of users, I can still start my Husky 2100 and Dolmar 9000 without a decomp at 67, what is the general opinion on this? -

It seems there is a hole at the bottom of the stove that allows the bottom hinge pin to be driven out, thanks to @Kernow Jack who has not been able to post direct: I've just managed to remove this door, it was quite a job though. As I read in the posts above the 2 door hinge pins are each held in place by a short hexagon headed grub screw, which I managed to loosen with a few squirts of WD 40 from the door hingering. however the pins themselves didn't want to move at all. Both the top and the bottom pin had smooth rounded heads which were visible top one looking up and bottom one looking down. I found a round opening underneath the door where I could reach the bottom end of the bottom pin and after a long battle finally managed to hammer this pin out (again using WD 40 liberaly) by first pushng the door up so that top hingering against the top of the stove hedge, then trapping a nailpunch tight between the botom of the bottom pin and a metal block on the floor and then giver the door a few hammer blows down from the top of the door. repeating this procedure lots of time the bottom pin finally was pushed up free from its hold and I could the lower the door free from it top hold. -

Hi, I completed all the written parts of the old Tech cert but never sat the management day. Partly because the college wanted another £500 to train to pass the management day and then the following year they changed the course. Is there anything I can do now?

A brief update/summary for anyone visiting this thread in the future looking for a conclusion: The saw now runs with the original parts pictured above. That is to say it does not have a check valve in the high speed circuit. It idles, accelerates, returns to idle totally predictably. I did not expect this. Hi speed circuit is not providing any fuel at idle - I can close the high speed screw completely with no change to engine. And there is obvious no air going up the hi speed jet because the engine idles happily and forever. I wonder if the wire gauze filter is behaving like a check valve once it’s coated in fuel…? Dunno, but in this carb, with this saw there is no need for a ‘normal’ check valve in the hi speed circuit.
