I think it's a great idea. And if you are prepared to relocate you might find someone who would employ you as well. Only downside is you would have no excuses for being late for work in the morning. Put it out there as much as you can. Something will turn up

I've just bought some end/cut sealer. (Can't remember the brand). Quite expensive, I'm sure it's PVA!!

lomardini engine Lombardini Engine Worn Out In Less Then Two Years

I think you have had bad luck. I have a chipper runs on the same engine, and had various dealings with air cooled lombardini in the past. Always found them very reliable. I change the oil bath every 30 hrs. Not sure what the frequency should be, but it always looks like it needs doing. Would the fact it's a grinder and the engine isn't always level have anything to do with it?- 27 replies

Obviously I don't know the exact circumstances, but surely approaching someone with a running chainsaw trumps a knife. Maybe it was a gang of 8 or so. It would have to be, wouldn't it, to keep a crew at bay and hitch a chipper up and get away??

Not got a vast amount of experience. Only ever owned two sets of gaffs, but they don't look too bad to me. You may want a good point on a dead elm or something similar that's gone like concrete. Tend to agree with tree fancier. Good technique is key

Thanks. That is what I was thinking. Someone has quoted me £70/80. Said it's a big job, lots of labour. They might make a better job of it, but the blades aren't bad. I think if I offset them enough to get a flat file in on the right angle that should do. Do you use a flat file similar to one you get with a chainsaw filing kit? (For the depth guage)

Thanks. They're cutting ok. Just thought there might be some way of giving them a tickle without going the hole hog. Know what you mean about hs80. Had experience. If these aren't as bad I might have a go at taking them apart. I'm blaming you when it goes fits up. ??

Yes. I've got a reference no. Says quote is good for 30 days, apparently! What a load of nonsense tho. I asked an insurance co to breakdown a quote once, ie what each portion of the amount for. They couldn't tell me. I'm sure they think of a figure and double it

Just had an automatic renewal quote for my car insurance (£407.00) i won't name the company. Went on a comparison site and got a quote for £212.00 ! It's the same insurance co. !!!! Two questions, What's that all about? More practically though, can I accept the quote off the comparison site and ask them to send my NCB to themselves?!?!

No 1. Maybe passing stuff on so they are not struggling past each other. Defo a day to be climbing. Doesn't look like enough space to terminate a zip line unfortunately. The 72m crosses a road? Wouldn't trust any zip line I've ever set up to go over traffic.

Thanks. I didn't know if I need permission which is why I put the post up. I thought I might need to inform the rail. Since 2004 I have never done a job anywhere near a rail track and then I was working for someone.

I'm getting it second hand from the clients, but they said nothing required doing, but if they wanted to reduce them they could. Does that not seem right to you? Think I'm walking away from this one anyway

Wise words. A f***k up would certainly be one way to get their attention. As I said in the op I am quite confident that the job would go ok, nothing going track side of garden, including me. But I don't need the job and I certainly don't need to be half way through the job and be stopped. I will try and contact rail network, and if they don't respond I'll give it a miss
