  1. Thanks everyone for the advice and concern. But don't panic! I've priced to dismantle, and that's what I'll be doing. It was just one of my brainwaves. I have them, from time to time
  2. Ha ha. Don't be so sure ?
  3. I'll be climbing it. No video tho. That would a very tedious watch ?
  4. Thanks for all the input. I'm not offended by any of the comments, in fact I take the 'most stupid ever' comment as an acalade, especially when I think back to the 'vesp era'! Haironyourchest painted a better picture than I did. All the usable area is block paved, there's a bit of grass, but your under the tree virtually. I did consider lifting blocks and ground spikes. Bit of a faff tho. There's a detached garage. I don't like the idea of a rope around it tho. All the stresses are behind the winch operator, out of sight. Something could be happening unmoniterd. The wall bracket I thought about is right angled, and I considered putting it on corner of the garage. Don't worry, I'm not now! I do understand about tensile and compressive strength. I'm not trying to uproot a redwood. It's a holly, with a slight backward lean. 2 men on a pull rope can recover it. I was just trying to think of a more controlled method, in case they slip. Probably end up climbing it, and getting pricked and scratched to death!
  5. Has anybody ever attached an anchor plate to a customer's house, for the sole purpose of winching a tree? Is this a reasonable thing to do? Obviously with their permission. I would be removing it afterwards and plugging the drill holes.
  6. Apart from everything everyone else has said, I'm looking for some positives, at least you didn't have to work for them. Probably not the best people to work for. Did you speak to the tree surgeons who did the job? Take it they gave a cheaper quote?
  7. VID-20190907-WA0008.mp4
  8. I would like to bet that most of the accidents (Not all) are happening to people who are not adhering to what is already in place. I know plenty of people who are safe and competent working off one line. I also know people you could give 3 lines to, and still couldn't be trusted. Training is the way forward
  9. I hope I haven't upset the wee chipper club here ? I was actually very impressed with the chipper, a Jansen. What I found was, on the days when I would use it, I would still take the big chipper for the other jobs that day. Yes. It just didn't suit
  10. Well, I think I was putting the branches in the right end. It was the loading it on a trailer, taking 2 vehicles to the job, extra time and expense that wasn't worth it
  11. I bought one thinking it would be useful occasionally. Wasn't getting used at all. Sold it, less than a year after buying it. Even on the jobs where the chip was staying, I found it easier to drag out, chip, and barrow back in
  12. I'm coming round to that. I'd like to have a go, just for the experience, but at the same time, I don't want to damage a £50 tyre
  13. Well, I'm having a beer now, thinking about it, so it might be a non starter! I will let you know the outcome.?
  14. Chipper. 175 r13 tyre. All it is, I could do it tonight, as I've got the tyre, otherwise it's a bit of a round trip in the morning before I can get going. Thanks
  15. Hi Has anyone ever took a vehicle/trailer tyre off a rim and put one back on themselves? Using just basic equipment, pry bar/crow bar etc. Is it possible? Thanks in advance
  16. Isn't there a danger of the stem rolling along the cable if it's on the inside?
  17. Yeah. Full body, just in case you go upside down!!
  18. You'll get 12 months out of standard exterior ply. I would get minimum 12mm. 15-18mm if you can afford it. Buffalo boards are more expensive, but will last longer. Making a box isn't cheap, but a well made one will last the life of the van, and could be worth doing, in the long run
  19. I agree with you, but strange isn't it. In most trades, building for example, customers want the job doing as quick as possible, but they think they're being ripped off if we are more efficient than they expected. Has anyone ever gone to quote a job and the customer has said 'forget it, I'll get my husband to do it's. Its this attitude of 'if I had the time, I'd do it myself. Go on then!! 1500-1600. By the way. No special equipment apart from the chipper. 3 people, 2 days, all muck in, after it's down

    Buying a new saw

I wouldn't recommend the ms 362. Never liked mine. Been temperamental from day one. Had a 441 before it. Much better.
  21. Sympathies, as I've just had some gear lifted, albeit only blower and hedgetrimmers. I was just wandering tho, what are people's thoughts on the police selling proceeds of crime etc in their auctions? And what can you do if you recognise something of yours in a lot? They don't seem to make much of an effort to find the rightful owners. Slight tangent, but my mate advertised a motorbike on eBay. Stupidly, said to the fella who won bid 'can you come Thursday? I'm on nights Wednesday ' Got home Thursday. Bike gone. Someone else contacted him, interested in the bike. He told them the story. Fella said, same happened to me, it's a gang from Birmingham, here's a name. My mate took the info to the police and they filed it in the bin. ?

    Wirral

Stolen this afternoon. Stihl BG86 blower and Stihl HS81 Hedgetrimmers. From van West Kirby. My own fault really. Van was locked, but one of the windows slightly down. Blower has 3 distinctive slices/holes on top of orange casing. Don't expect to see them again, but just letting everyone know. Bit of a spate of incidents, Wirral/Merseyside area
  23. I always hang my saws and trimmers off pegs. Is this ok? Or should they be stored horizontally?

    Bad tree work

    Love it
  25. Some people see it as a pita. To others it's an adventure. Got to admit Ukraine last year was awkward. Madrid is a lot easier. The hardest bit is paying for it
