  1. I think its being a 12mm wrist pin,,, but the only way to be sure is to measure it, if you pulling the jug off. but for a boost of easy (noisy) power get a muff as we listed above. you need fo find out what carb is fitted the Walbro hd carbs a the better, but mine had a c3m 5 thing without the snorkel ☹️
  2. What’s the serial number, that is the factor. if it’s a 10 wrist pin.it is before x 29454 serial. X being the first number usually 1 but could be different. early 044 ‘s were denoted a good saw ,knowing if it’s 10 mm or a 12mm are important if you need certain parts.. but not all..?
  3. Do you have/ seen the ipl. http://oregonvyhne.sk/domains/7l8j90ep7a/my_files/Vkresy/Stihl_044_IPL_.pdf the Kat in the muff Sapps the power the China dual port once fitted needs carb a retune... DUAL PORT EXHAUST/MUFFLER NEW COMPATIBLE FOR STIHL MS440 044 MS460 046 WWW.EBAY.CO.UK Fits for STIHL 044 046 MS440 MS460 Chainsaw. 1 Piece of Chainsaw Muffler. Replace OEM#: 1125 140 0612 /...
  4. I just rebuilt an old 044, 10mm wrist pin. Faffed around a bit.. mine didn’t ave a cat it had the other old exhust (I may find part numbers later if you want ) but it had 3circles in the back part.. I put a China dual port muff on as well as adv the timing 20thou. as for the air filter... the old 044 carb don’t have a snorkel thing so I had a few options, I was not paying out silly dosh for a carb. So I went for the China stuff..inc the hd air filter and housings.. well the carb did not like me trying to tune it.. or more of it was the other way round... I ended up just blocking the intel port/hole with some stuff (rubber so I could pull it out if I wanted later) and retuned the oem carb.. it works better than the oem mesh filter.. ?
  5. I,m going to say,, have you checked the spark plug, and that is, have used the plug from another saw, that runs well and stops when hot and starts again.. ive seen it once or twice, that two plugs behaved the same... or test the plug in another saw. See if it does the same.. maybe disconnect the earth to the coil, to be sure it’s not getting a change in resistance enough to Earth it out. It's easy to stop a saw with no earth wire, you just choke. And also clean where the earth connects to the coil with carb/break cleaner other than above you did not say if you have a spark when the saw has run and is hot and will not start.. ? I’d swap the coil if I could borrow one to be sure..it was the coil.. coils do go bad, but there could be another good reason why it behaves like it is.. I look fwd to the fixed results ??
  6. Who's Pete and who’s Dave,, asking cos you call yourself Dave tm and someone says nicely done Pete... ???

    660 oiler

The ipl https://www.motoculture-jean.fr/upload/pdf/MS660.pdf 2 and 3 are the parts installed in the normal oiler 10 and 11 are in the Australian ho oiler you just need to get the parts and swap them. ive added the pic from the workshop manual so you can see how to remove the roll pin if you want the workshop manual I can send it to you btw modding the pump involves changing the Original ramp on the pump

    660 oiler

I think you will find it’s the 661\462 and more than likely the 500i Oiler’s. not the 660. If you want to mod the still oiler it’s a case of taking the pump apart and faffing about with the ramp. one other way is to just buy the ho oiler parts and swap them, you can see it’s listed in the ipl when you see the prices it may make your choice of way forward for you. i will add the ipl pic but you can google it for the whole doc.

    660 oiler

I’m not sure I’m reading your poast Wright, all still oily things work the same here’s a pic look at the pic o gram on the metal in real life they all work the same 9 till 12 or 3 till 6 depending on which way you look at it. My pic is clockwise increasing oil flow. A 1/4 of a turn is min to full there is a mod you can do,, if you’ve got the time (we’ve all got time at the mo) and a few tools... but it is easy to mess it up.. after all the normal pump stroke is 0.9mm and the ho is just a measly 0.3mm more at 1.2mm. any how check the pic and report back if you got it back to front or I read your poast back to front,,, btw I need a better hobby than drinking, as there is bugger all to do now days ??? If you fancy trying the mod I can’t point you to the right place..?
  13. I just do it the way I feel on the day. It makes no difference, I always put the cap on and twist the can back and forth, whilst slowly inverting it.. I think the instructions come from some oils not dispersing as well and settling, that’s why they say before and the force of petrol helps to mix it

  22. I thought the cpc thing is if you drive professionally and it is your main job. Ie you just drive the tipper and do little if any ground work.. i,m sure there’s examples on the dvla gov web.. edit: add link choose your exemption,,, I’m sure someone will come along and be the judge in a court for you ? https://www.gov.uk/guidance/driver-cpc-exemptions-examples will it be this just change bricks for logs Example 2: self-employed bricklayerA self-employed bricklayer drives their lorry to a building site with a load of bricks. They unload the bricks and use them in the construction of a house. They do not need Driver CPC. This is because driving the lorry is not their main activity and they’re carrying materials for their use in the course of bricklaying
