  1. I will ask and add.. 28” bar (yes .i know it’s 325] on a 560 ripping wood seems a bit of an ask.when ripping compared to cross cutting ..and so much of an user error on top of all that..which us chainsaw millers know all about ?. Dull chain and slow,, it makes me wonder if the guy thought he was shopping at M&S and brought some pants that just about fit him. Then took them back and said they were not good because he'd not lost wieght but put it on. I wonder if we should play a game....rob says a town/city and someone replies if they live there.? Edit, and the buyers saw is apos so it hardly cross cuts let a lone rips wood ?
  2. Yeh the 1/4 are small ?. Those file do break while using if not careful
  3. I thought that was fine pic of yourself, in your summer ppe....??? no really,,, it’s a salesman thing,, those guys/ some peeps just can sell ice to the eskimos at any price they like... and then say they will not add the vat if you pay cash.. ...I worked twice for a few guys to help them out as his climber had to leave mid job..his misses was in labour.. and had to dash off.. then the penny dropped... on the second day.. .... one of the guys looked like your pic ? ???
  4. But he needs a stihl filing kit it's about £15 and the dealer will make a percentage on the sale.. he may have got a 1lt bottle of chain oil free, worth £7, but where does it end, the dealer needs to make something, it’s really down to being local and having a good relationship... for the after sales.. but most switched on guys just look around on interwebs and get it delivered if it’s convenient. after all. I just buy 25Lt of oil, and boxes of files, and a few chains at a time, and if I think I need anything else while making an order it gets added, I just can’t be faffed running out and wasting time going to the local dealer. It’s a bit like always going to the corner shop.. or the supermarket . but don’t get me wrong, I do get caught short at times and have to pay the price at the corner shop.. anyhow as angry squirrel says a friend in need is always good if you can help them because it pays off in other way sometimes, they are willing to help you in return ???????
  5. I'm not really sure of op question, it’s a bit vague. 1st, are you with another person or persons 2, if you are do they have permission/ or you have permission 3, in the eyes of the H&s (this only really counts if you were to have an accident) you need to be qualified, to be insured by someone, no ticket no insurance!.. and if you hurt yourself or someone else and not wearing ppe.. that’s a get out clause for insurance. i do volunteer with the local council ranger. He checked all my tickets and every time I rock up he looks me over, I got told off for using a saw without gloves... They are very strict with the rules.. no one is even allowed to pick up the strimmer, even thou most peeps use them at home. apparently, I’m the only person that uses a saw from the volunteering guys. I guess I’m lucky, but it means the ranger can get on and do other stuff so in today’s litigation society, if someone lets anyone lose without a ticket on public land they’re asking for problems at some point in time. Unless your really good friends and they have watched you and Are helping training you up.. But you must have ppe. Does anyone have contact details about volunteering for the WT with a saw. and as I said I do have ppe and tickets ??? cheers Edit I should have said I’m in east sussex
  6. I think your find, the dealer will say a lot of things, and overload the customers brain, at the sales point. Also prolly said please read the instructions, how many people do actually read them..and please come back if you have any questions/problems, .. so we can charge you if we can. i think the file kit is an extra. Unless stated Sold as a pack.. ie stihl we’re giving a longer warranty on saw if you brought the ultra 2st oil at the same time.. but that was just sales gimmick imo. anyway I guess he's in safe hands now?.
  7. Show us a be fore and after pic o the teeth,, I wanna see. The rabbit so I can show it to the dog ?
  8. What you doing with them saws,, selling on the bay and have PayPal take a cut. As well as the bay.. or selling them here to us hungry but skint lot..? I could do with making a 150 up with those bits.. if that 044 is a 12mm Wrist pin I’d be interested ?
  9. Guess That be the making of the chocolate log for Xmas ? who wants a slice ?
  10. Put the kettle on then ., some caffeine may help.. till it’s bed time ??
  11. Did you mean thiss... I thought this was very clear. Are you following ???
  12. I don’t know if you have ran that sprockets and chain combo,,, but you could well have fooked the chain and sprocket, just read that thread old chains new bars thread, don’t worry your not alone,,, other have been before you, and the classic is std 3/8 sprocket and a lopro 3/8 chain they are the same pitch but not the same and don’t mesh together properly.. anyway hope you work it all out soon.??
  13. I'm not sure why you went for the 404 bar when you could have stuck with a 3/8. i know bigger heavy chain has some advantages (stays sharp longer & less stretch) but it has some disadvantages as well.. I guess you know this already,, biggest bar on saw and add the thickness had heaviest chain.. now if you were wanting a trade off ie 28” bar and 404, that seems cool. As the saw could handle it better.. now you have a chain and bar,,, and the corrected sprocket on the way. And also may need a bar spacer as well . I’d test it a bit and suck it and see.. you could, and I say could but check first. If it still don’t pull like a train ?. make the 404 into a skip chain, it’s a bit of a waste. But it could work.. the only other way is sell that bar and chain, and take a different route.. ymmv as well as others.. cheers..
  14. Expect the guy cutting it to swear and complain a lot about chains keep going blunt??
  15. I look at it and think fook it.. how the hell .... talk to tree owner, and ask how they think it should be done, then explain why it has to be done in a few, but different ways and it all has to be calculated in time and cost of guys and or machinery.. try and give some prices for the different options but with a big margin for errors.. And time.. see what the owner says and gauge weather it’s worth the risk. After all the owner wants/needs it done. It’s just who does or don’t do it...like most things it could be done,,, it’s just the time factor... that’s my view from my arm chair, if I looked at it in person,, I’d say no and walk a way?
  16. Not a chance,,,the sooner you get it done the easier it will be and it will be cheaper. Ie you could have more choice who does it. If you leave it longer more people will walk a way and it will cost a lot more because you will have less choices..
  17. Yes it does happen a lot,, but not everyone is the same most of us were taught manners don’t cost anything, but I guess the peeps that don’t say thanks think it does ?

    Booze

    Beavertown ?? Autocorrect I guess ?
  19. 99 change hands ??????? ? that wasn’t funny was it.. ????
  20. I think Eric will need his saw serial number to hand.. but my guess (not that’s it’s wanted ?). The 020t is different it uses a shorter bearing.. 3mm so I’m thinking the clutch drum is shorter as well I don’t know what the problem is but maybe looking for 2nd hand parts or nos may be the way forward ?? edit if you look at the ipl"s online you can see the chain break band has different fittings.
  21. edit this is. 150 not the 151,, but I guess they be the same Umm only shows self tappers in my ipl, I guess you could zip over to diyspares or L&S to check
  22. Wonky

    550xp Rebuild

I wonder if it was used on the wrong grade/spec of oil....
  23. And that’s why I said about the stihl bearings in another thread,, one side the Pto, you have to use the stihl bearing. But the other is a standard bearing C3 grade which is £2.50 and free delivery, stihl price around £10
  24. Yeh, it pays to shop around, sometimes you have to ask if they can match a price.. some will and some will almost match it, they know it’s a convenience thing..and you want it.. my local, wants £7 for a spark plug, I only got done once. ?, now If I go in and if they ask if I want a spark plug I just say no thanks I buy them 5 at a time for a tenner.. ? I know they got overheads but but if you take a saw in for a service which they charge a good amount for the service... and then print a fiver on one item The spark plug ? and then a good markup on everything else.. another item I needed. Fs55 coil. £75, eBay from a repair place in Dorset £44.. and yes it was oem.. I think stihl should cap the spares prices.. I spoke to them. The coil cost £25 + vat. just gives you a idea of the markup what some places make..
